I was born in Philadelphia PA, grew up (mostly) in Hialeah FL, graduated from the University of South Florida, Tampa FL (go Bulls!) and currently live in Chattanooga TN---I'm an American citizen by birth, and Southern by the grace of God.

I have a brother, three years younger, married, and mathematically gifted. I am totally without math skills.

The books I write, the topics and subject matter, grew out of my firstborn son's diagnosis of diabetes at age 3.

Infinite reward that comes to me from my work.... when a grown reader lets me know that reading my books inspired her to seek a profession that helps others. I have wonderful letters saying, "Today I graduated from nursing/medical school."

Now that's a gift of joy!

Love the one last wish series. Lurlene McDaniel takes real-life problems and sheds light on them. These books will make you cry, though.

I found this book to be really good. It tells a story of a girl who needs a new heart. The young girl's name is Katie. She is strong willed girl with lots of spirit. To her amazement another young person with a good strong heart dies. As sad as it is to Josh (the brother of the donor). It is an unfortunate yet welcome occurrence to Katie and her family. Katie is/was a runner and because of her bad heart she had to stop running. Yet, with a new heart and lots of determination Katie and her doctors knew she could once again have a chance at running. While in the recovery room she has a very welcomed visitor, it's Josh. Katie is intrigued to learn about her heart and who it had belonged to. When Katie reveals her plans to run again Josh decided to help her both emotionally and physically. And with both Katie's and Josh's hard work and determination Katie reaches her goal and goes on to win the gold. From start to finish of this book there are things that occur that will make you smile and cry. Katie proves the a little hard work and determinationcan help you do what ever you want.

I've read quite a few books in the One Last Wish series and along with She Died Too Young, this one is my favourite. It is very realistic and with very believable characters. The story just takes you along with it. The main character in this book is Katie who desperatly needs a heart transplant after a virius has severly weakened her heart. It switches between scenes with Katie and Josh, who's brother Aaron dies and ends up being Katie's donor. After her transplant Katie had to fight to become a track runner again. I like the ending of this book because it doesn't all end 'happily ever after' but it's inspiring and uplifting. I recommend this book to anyone.

At the beginning of a quartet of books starring Katie, the running champ that steals the pages of this book, Katie is plagued with a fatal heart disease. She won't survive without a heart transplant... and how many people have spare, healthy hearts to pass up? Despite getting a good transplant, Katie is down in the dumps. Will she ever run again? Will she reject the transplant? Then Katie meets Josh... she's more connected to him then meets the eye. Read this book! It's another one of McDaniel's fabulous books.
