Amazon.com Review

The success of Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye's fast-paced apocalyptic Left Behind thrillers is built on a straightforward Christian message and a blend of dialogue and action; the 10th installment of the series, The Remnant: On the Brink of Armageddon, sticks to the same proven formula that has captivated legions of fans. It's one month into the Great Tribulation, and a million people gather in the ancient city of Petra to await the foretold "Glorious Appearing." The Global Community loses no time in bombing the city, which is completely engulfed in flames, guaranteeing certain doom for those assembled unless a miracle occurs. In other parts of the world, martyrdom continues for the remnant of believers as Global Community potentate Nicolae Carpathia's thirst for blood escalates. There are lots of slick escapes, plenty of intrigue, some genuinely gory moments, and enough gruesome plagues straight out of the biblical Book of Revelation to keep readers turning the pages. When the Chicago believers are forced to scatter and discord breaks out among those gathered at Petra, changes accelerate for the Tribulation Force and other series characters, leaving an ample number of loose ends to be picked up in the next episode. --Cindy Crosby

From the Back Cover

Lakes and rivers turn to blood. Global life endangered by scorching sun. Darkness blankets Middle East; astronomers baffled.

Hordes of Christ-followers seeking refuge in Petra are slated for massacre by Supreme Potentate Nicolae Carpathia’s armies. With key members dead or missing, the Tribulation Force frantically prepares to fight the ultimate battle between good and evil―until their safe house is compromised and they flee for their lives. Will they escape before Carpathia obliterates the city? Most important, will they fulfill their mission as the world hurtles toward Armageddon?

The Remnant is #10 in the phenomenal New York Times best-selling Left Behind series that rocked the publishing world and made millions think seriously about the future and their places in it.

With special features relating to current events and end-times prophecy.

The safety once found in the city of Chicago is lost, and the groups must divide and try to get to build new safe communities. I wish I had some of the technological devices that the Tribulation Force did. The techie in me loved the descriptions and wanted more. These tools allowed Chloe to manage her international conglomerate of Christian traders without slowing. Now, some of the shippers who supported the trading cause have been caught and killed. This is a time when only those with the mark of Carpathia can buy, sell, get medical aid, or go out without expecting to be captured.

This book is powerfully visual, but I would still like to know more about Petra, and if it does fit the Biblical place of refuge. It probably does since LaHaye and Jenkins have obviously done extensive Biblical research to put the series together. More descriptions, I think, would be helpful.

Millions of Judeo-Christians are living in this arid place where there is no source of water or food. However, just as God provided for the Israelites as they spent forty years wandering the deserts in the Old Testament, God provides manna and a continuous fountain. If it seems that the authors have used a deus ex machine process for the miracles, remember this is a series about God protecting his own and showing His miraculous intervention.

Carpathia sees millions of people in Petra, so he must try to destroy the city. A target so ready that how can he resist? But, just as he was unable to kill the two prophets in the streets of Jerusalem until their time was fulfilled, he is stopped by God's power. Frustrated, the antichrist's forces work to lure the undecided who reside in Petra into their fold.

More characters become primary, and I found many of them unique and fascinating. Intrigue and action are still the driving force for this book as Christians try to save other believers and those who have not yet taken the mark, which was required in book eight of the series. With millions of people still on earth, Carpathia's forces have not been able to compel everyone to receive the mark or die. It is still gory, and there are a lot of believers who are captured and killed. The antichrist's soldiers were hampered by the boils and sores, and perhaps this was God's way of giving aid to His remnant.

Hurry I need the next book. As I have stated previously, I am a captive audience; therefore, it is five stars for me. That is just my opinion.

The "Left Behind " series of books are well written, captivating and NOT just for religious minded people. The series is novel approach to the last 7 years before the return of Christ. It is based on Revelations, the last book of the Bible, which I have never read or had anyone teach me about. It has taken me about 3 days per book in the series. Judgements, plagues, the rise of Satan, truly riveting

You might think the repetitive nature of this series may get boring. Though it is much gloom, doom and despair, its written very well. The characters are so well described as are their experiences. Carpathia is starting to get his due dilligence and that alone is worth the read.

After reading Desecraton, I was so disappointed that I was ready to hang up the series. Books 1-6 had been enjoyable and what I would consider 'really good' books for all. By books 7&8 things were beginning to decline. However, when I read book 9 I was certain that the only reason it was published was because of the author's names and the attention they had drawn from the previous books in the series. What a total disappointment it was. I came close to not continuing with the series. However, I am very glad I was stuborn and proceeded to do so. The Remnant is truly worthy of putting them back into favor with me.
The Remnant is fast moving, and detailed. We are seeing events happening and unfolding as we would imagine they will be. You will see action that includes nearly all of the characters being involved, without staying on one character or series of events that lasts too long. The pace is set just right. It is not going too quickly that it is skipping details that are important, and yet it is not slowing down and describing every minor and boring detail that we surely are not interested in.
Chloe is annoying, and although her desire to 'be in the action' obviously shows us that she is better off working on the Coop project, she proves she is not good when it comes to common sense in a crisis. Sabastian's section of his capture and exciting escape is detailed and truly a worthy adventure in itself. The rather silly appearance of Michael as co-pilot was somewhat goofy, but humourous in a way. (While at the same time, we can only admit that God works in mysterious ways and He can do anything) And, the amazing events at Petra will only confirm how the Lord does protect His flocks.
Reading this can only bring comfort to those who fear death. That is..........if you know the truth. Although none of us want to leave our loved ones. And, I know that I am a sinner and it will be hard for me when I have to look Jesus in the eyes and answer for what I've done here. I surely have not used all that He has given me and done my best. It is still exciting, to us who know Christ. And, to those who do not, I pray it will make them want to. That it will make them search and find the Truth.
This book is fiction, we all know that. But, only God knows exactly when and where and how these events will take place. The stories from this series bring out our imagination to think and comprehend what is totally uncomprehensible. Many things are quoted from scripture and will occur. The hows, whens, wheres - we have yet to find out. But, if you are not a believer, you surely will find some parts that cause you to want to search further and learn more. I pray that you do. If for no other reason than to just learn more. If you are a believer, then you can enjoy these, knowing that although they are fictional writing, they are inspired by truth.
I definitly recommend this book. And, although you may have been dissappointed with 9, don't give up and stop there. Read on.

As time goes by everything becomes more scary. Something I do not want to experience. Becoming one in Christ is the more important. Evil is personified, EVIL IS HORRIBLE.

The best series of books I have ever read. It follows so close to the Bible. It makes you reexamine yourself to see if you are truly ready to go when the rapture happens. Got to get these books and read them. Don't rely on the fact that you could make it here after the rapture has occurred. Because what if you couldn't?

As a non-religious person I knew very little about the Christian beliefs concerning the 'Rapture' and 'Christ's Second Coming'. I also felt a series based in religion would hold very little interest for me. How wrong I was!!! The books are fast paced, exciting and real page turners. The characters are believable and you find yourself immersed in their stories, wanting them to survive. I also learnt a huge amount and found myself considering what the Bible foretells, wondering if there actually is some truth to it. The 'Left Behind' series commanded my interest, fascinated me and changed my perspective on religion. I would recommend this series to believers and to those who may be sceptical (like I was) but who are willing to approach this with an open mind and a preparedness to be taught something as well as enjoying a fascinating read. Excellent series and extremely talented authors who know what they're talking about.

Took me about two weeks to read up to book 9, travelled abroad while I was at 5 and took 3 books with me only to finish them in three days and the idea was they would last me 2 and half weeks that I’d be away . They have really strengthened my Faith and made me realize that the only option is to leave with Rapture .
