This was a wild entertaining ride, and one I won't soon forget. A refreshing "whodunit" wacky murder mystery with eccentric awesomeness - a very fun and funny audiobook!

Delightful story, very funny and clever, and the narration was great! Nicely done, very much enjoyed it, and I think anyone who listens will enjoy it as well :)

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sometimes,.the worst drivel will attract a group of freaks. That would be this book. Thank goodness it was free. Like a clockwork Orange, I couldn't look away. Sad what we are becoming. ( review written during a mind bending depression, YMMV)

Tripping the Night Fantastic
Author: Andrew Chapman
Narrator: Alan R. Gron
Listening Time: 4 hours 45 minutes

Disclaimer: "This Audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost, in exchange for an unbiased honest review."

I always like to preface any reviews I give with this information.

I am a 68 year old female who has been an avid reader since I was around 10 or 11 years old.
I read primarily for pleasure.
I have a great many interests and do a lot of research for personal pleasure and knowledge as well.

This review is for the audiobook version.

After 2 hours and 13 minutes I had to stop listening to this audiobook as I found it so offensive I could not listen to it any farther. While I expected it might be a little more graphic story than the type of audiobook I usually listen to, I found that when the usage of sheep semen mixed with cocaine is dried, and then snorted, and then later a person is drugged without their knowledge, that was pretty close to the limit of my tolerance.

The bottom line was when the "men" in this story started treating a woman like a piece of meat.

Not my kind of book in any way, shape or form.

I can't recommend this book to anyone.

Honestly because I started the book I wanted to finish it. There were some really good descriptions when it started. But the author lost me at times that he wrote as he “wrote” the book. It pulled me out of the story and it happened a lot.

I love the title of this book, "Tripping the Night Fantastic", by Andrew Chapman is a humorous and enjoyable little read! It felt like a combination of hanging with "Dr. Gregory House" and the boys from "Trainspotting"... You love em and hate em all at the same time. I truly enjoyed the characters and look forward to more tales of woe that involve Charlie, Simon and Keep.

3.0 out of 5 stars Charlie Deavon

Evidently a number of people have found this a very good book but I'm afraid the version I read, bought late February, needs more work to approach the professional standard that all indie books aspire to. (Edit to say that I understand this has now been addressed by the author) The story was a little thin on the ground and relied heavily on the hallucinogenic effects of a home-made drug, Merlin. In effect, the plot was a one liner and in a novel length book I like things to be a little more complex.

The author has some interesting ideas and a definite eye for funny detail and dialogue. Some of his policemen really amused me. Most of the characters though, were a bit 2 dimensional and unconvincing. The real criterion is, do I care about them, and with these, I didn't. I'd love to see Andrew Chapman tackle something with more depth and meaning. Not a bad read but I'm sure he's capable of more.
