4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

You get away with a lot when they think you're dead....

At risk of being cooked alive by Cyraria’s extreme heat season, Dirck Brightstar and his family find refuge in a massive network of underground caverns courtesy of the planet's indigenous race, the bnolar. It doesn’t take long, however, to sense that this underground world emanates a strange and mystical presence.

Where did that mysterious dream come from? And how is it possible that his mother shared the same exact vision, right down to the remotest detail? Its message that they orchestrate a prison break to rescue his father is so formidable that even his indomitable friend, Win, claims it’s impossible.

If they don’t succeed--the result is unthinkable. All around them, Integrator forces are on the verge of world domination, with the Brightstars not the only ones who are doomed. But if Dirck’s next vision plays out, the consequences will be even worse.

Review

"Action packed, fast paced, full of conflicts, and have a political/social undertone that symbolizes all we find horrifying, yet possible." (Amazon Reviewer) "An intriguing sci-fi, supernatural action packed read. An entire world and its inhabitants along with various languages and races that each have unique abilities and qualities. [The author's] extensive knowledge in science is evident in the explanations that are utterly believable." (Amazon Reviewer) "It's the human element that raises the bar in this competitive genre, and Fox's cast of characters give plenty of pathos along with a well-crafted technological backdrop." (Amazon Reviewer) "Keeps you chained to the book from the first to last page. [The author's] style is excellent and inspiring with a high sense of plot, flow of the story. This amazing saga is a must in your own library." (Amazon Reviewer) "Could not put the story down! A highly intelligent and prolific read, you really get a feel for the authors experience given she had a career at NASA. Speaks to the insight and depth of the book, well thought out and concise, which is no surprise because all of her books are highly detailed and great works. Fun for all ages, intelligently written so that you may get multiple layers that speaks to a variety of readers, loved it." (Amazon Reviewer)

From the Author

This book nearly wrote itself. From the very start, I had few preconceived ideas what was going to happen. I can't begin to count the times I'd wonder myself "How are they ever going to get out of this one?" All I could do was turn it over to the characters and see what they did, which in many cases surprised me considerably!

I love caverns. I've been to several, some in Texas, as well as the famous Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. The caverns in this story are based on Natural Bridges Cavern here in Texas. The first time I visited there, I knew at some point I would use them as the setting for the story. Their wonder is breathtaking. If you've never visited a cavern, put it on your bucket list. You'll be amazed.

Marcha Fox writes in a variety of genres from cross-cultural thrillers to hard science fiction and astrology. While raising six children she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Utah State University which resulted in a 21+ year career at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. When she retired she turned to writing full-time, which had always been her dream.

Her most recent literary work is the cross-cultural trilogy, "The Dead Horse Canyon Saga," coauthored with Pete Risingsun. A masterful blend of modern day conspiracy thriller with Cheyenne history and cultural practices, the first two books collected a total of ten awards with the grand finale released in January 2025.

Other fiction work includes "The Star Trails Tetralogy," a multi-volume STEM-friendly science fiction series designed for youth with an interest in science. The series is also available as audiobooks narrated by T.W. Ashworth.

Much to the horror of her physics professors, she's a practicing professional astrologer with clients around the globe. She has written two full-length books on that subject, one for beginners and one about eclipses.

She has a passion for feline fur babies and lives in an 1898 farmhouse on three acres in rural New York State, having previously lived in California, Utah, and Texas.

A Silent Place Below by March Fox is an intriguing sci-fi, supernatural action packed read. Two brothers part of the Brightstar Clan must first save their father with the help of their uncle. Soon after they rescue their sister bringing everyone back to the magical tunnels they have sought refuge in. The tunnels give them special psi powers of communication and the ability to see the future. Together they work against INTEGRATION which is quickly sweeping the planet.

Fox’s words are vivid enough to imagine the whole story unfolding on a planet somewhere in the vast universe. She has created an entire world and its inhabitants along with various languages and races that each have unique abilities and qualities. Her extensive knowledge in science is evident in the explanations that are utterly believable. The best part is this book is only one in the Star Trails Tetralogy Series.

    Great story for all ages!

Very good reading and enjoyable way to explain the power of positive thinking and trusting the universe to provide.

4.5 stars for this 3rd installment in a mind-stretching sci fi series. Having come to connect with the characters, I was eager to continue the story. Intriguing species and amazing concepts bring new "wow" moments and conflicts into the mix, but the pacing was a bit uneven. The increasing danger to the Brightstar family kept me turning pages until the cliffhanger ending, and I'm anxious to dive into the last book to find out what happens to this family I've come to care about (and their friends). A great read for sci fi readers of any age!

Now I wait for Book 4. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three books of the series following the Brightstar family adventures. Looking forward to Marcha Fox's next book in the series.

My inner sci-fi geek has been captivated by the Star Trails Compendium. Book Three, has less pace and more science than the previous two books as it delves deeper into the forces underlying both the planet and the universe. The Brightstar family continues to battle ‘Intervention’, as they strive to reunite all their family members and save the planet’s inhabitants from mass mind slavery. 'Thoughts become things' is an interesting philosophy.

A Psilent Place Below by Marcha Fox is the third installment of her series centering on the Brightstar clan. We pick up where we left off as Creena finally returns to Cyraria, where her family is in dire straits trying to survive the political agendas of the Integration movement. As readers of the series know, Integration is about all or nothing, and the Brightstars are in danger of being obliterated for their non-compliance. It is no surprise that the high-spirited Creena finds herself on the wrong side of the government line in this fast-paced sci-fi adventure novel.

Once again we find the father-son conflict renewed as Merapa and Dirck are at loggerheads, with Creena trying to reconcile her differences with her brother Dirck to remove their father from harm's way. We also feel the deus ex machine effect as a kinder, gentler Governor Bryl Woeyel is also dealing with issues with bad guy Augustus Troy. If you caught my last review, I was expecting Rohtik Spoigan to make the face turn. Instead it is Woeyel who reveals a feminine character most likely to help the Brightstars succeed, while Spoigan appears to be content in letting Troy off the chain to make life miserable for our fave terralogist, Merapa, and his kids. It's the human element that raises the bar in this competitive genre, and Fox's cast of characters gives us plenty of pathos along with a well-crafted technological backdrop.

We are left to contemplate the plight of Augustus Troy himself, the narrow-minded major antagonist hoping to broaden his horizons from a shrinking window of opportunity. Perhaps the most revealing sequence comes as he is interviewing Merapa in Cira City, greatly enjoying his exquisite Lemitini in his cramped quarters, the omniscient narrative comparing it unfavorably to his command center in the spaceship that brought him there. We think of Pilate in Judea, trying to consolidate his power amidst a growing movement of rebellion, wondering if the martyr becomes another stepping stone on a path to ruination. It becomes a chess game between Troy and Merapa - or perhaps Augustus and Woeyel? I'm not placing my bets on Augustus Troy, but the author certainly has us wondering who is going to checkmate the bad guys.

I've been lucky enough to have been following the Brightstar saga so far. If you're coming in at A Psilent Place Below by Marcha Fox, then get yourself up to speed and buy the first episodes so you can anxiously await the next installment along with the rest of us.

I purchased the Star Trails Tetralogy Box Set, but am reviewing each book as I finish reading it.

The Brightstars are finally all on the same planet, but their nemesis, Troy is still making their lives hell, which is easy to imagine since Cyraria is in its hot phase and the weather is deadly (literally). Troy has Laren Brightstar in prison on trumped up charges. Dirck and Creena are trying to learn to get along, thoug she still relies on intuition and he only trusts his logic and things he can see.

This book's title acknowledges that a great deal of the plot takes place in the bnolar's cavens, where the Brightstars shelter as the planet's weather makes life above ground impossible.

Thyron, a clever poetic plant with psychic abilities continues to be a favorite character, but the poor fellow wasn't doing well at the end of this book... I'm rather worried he won't make it to the end of the series, so must read the next book a.s.a.p!
