Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) was a Swedish scientist, inventor, and theologian who made significant discoveries in many of the natural sciences, including astronomy, anatomy, geology, and mineralogy. At age fifty-five, his intensive search for answers to ultimate questions culminated in an awakening that gave him a unique insight into the workings of the spiritual world. He spent the remainder of his life writing about his experiences and how human beings can come to a deeper awareness of the divine.

Swedenborg's ideas have influenced people as diverse as Helen Keller, Johnny Appleseed, William Blake, Henry James, Ralph Waldo Emerson, D.T. Suzuki, Jorge Luis Borges, and Dr. Mehmet Oz. The continuing appeal of his thought undoubtedly lies in his insights into the afterlife, concepts of divine love, and focus on personal and social development.

Any and All Emanuel Swedenborg books are not to be missed... thank you Amazon Kindle for access to these timeless treasures... we wouldn't ordinarily get to read them... as they would be out of print or too costly to attain! Blessings and Love

cant beat a good read on your ipad or tablet. Its easier to read and see then a book and you dont have to worry about losing your place. Only thing better would be a audio book to go hands free ;)

Emanuel Swedenborg was many things: scientist, philosopher, and in this book, Christian mystic. He lived in the 1600-1700s; This alone means the vernacular in this book can be difficult to read at times - I reread entire pages several times over and still never got the meaning.
In this book, Emanuel describes in detail how he visits and is visited by spirits, angels, and demons both from our Earth and the 'earths' of other planets, such as Mars, Mercury, Venus, etc. Even the moon, it seems, is inhabited by spirits (though it does not mention if any are currently living). Almost all of the inhabitants of the other earths are more in tune with their spiritual guides/angels and commune with them regularly, a gift the majority of us here no long possess because of our focus on worldly and physical means instead of spiritual ones. Earth spirits here are regularly shunned by the angels and spirits of other planets for fear that our wrongful views of religion (the Trinity, idolatry-even the cross) will infect them and hinder their own spiritual progress. It talks of other things, such as astral projection and how the planetary system and the spirits connected to them are all aligned in specific relation to God (though I never completely grapsed this particular part).

So, an interesting read for those with open minds, but it's not light reading and requires some mental focus to comprehend the ideas he presents here.

"Florid" would be an understatement in describing the author's style, who packs more filler into every sentence than I have ever seen. Trying to keep track of the what the author is trying to say is so taxing that it's almost impossible to follow his ideas from one sentence to the next. If you're able to accomplish that task, however, you'll find that the ideas go beyond the fantastical to the utterly nonsensical. This book isn't a cure for boredom; it's a major cause of it.

What is more important than to look after one's soul? What religion is more relevant to this than Christianity? Who has refined that religion more than Swedenborg? -- with information regarding ETs on this occasion.
