Elisabeth Elliot (1926-2015) was a missionary and a critically acclaimed author and speaker. For over half a century, her life of obedience, timeless teachings, and best-selling books have influenced both believers and seekers of the Christian faith.

Elisabeth life work was to share these deep things: the trustworthiness of God, the blessings of obedience, the hope of joy in the midst of sorrow, the call to love one’s enemy, the priceless treasure of purity, and the true meaning of Biblical womanhood and manhood. Having written over twenty books, some of her most distinguished writings include, Passion and Purity, Let Me Be a Woman, Shadow of the Almighty, Through Gates of Splendor, and The Savage My Kinsman. The latter three chronicle Elliot’s missionary work and the life and martyrdom of her husband Jim Elliot.

She is survived by her husband Lars Gren, her daughter Valerie Elliot Shepard, and eight grandchildren. Today, her legacy lives on through the work of the Elisabeth Elliot Foundation. Visit ElisabethElliot.org to learn more.

A refreshing read during these uncertain times. This book reminded me that for every question and every confusion we face, the answer is in the Bible. Elizabeth Elliott is the mentor every woman needs.

Elizabeth's writings to her daughter are so inspiring. She tosses aside the fads of society and delves into God's intention's for a man and wife. Her experience as a wife (thrice) and widow (twice), gives an understanding of the marriage bond between a man and woman.

I love a E. Elliot and this book. It’s getting to read old letters from someone with so much wisdom and grace. I bought this as a gift for several friends for Christmas this year. It’s just so encouraging and makes me love being a woman.

Best for Ages: 15 and up

Elisabeth Elliot is an incredible woman whom I have looked up to for years. Though I might not always agree with everything she says, I know whatever she says comes from a heart that is devoted to God and is seeking him. As this year I am spending a lot of time reading about Biblical Womanhood, this was high on my list.

One of the things I loved about this book is that it was from a mother’s heart to her daughter. So much of the advice felt not like so many of the books on the market, but like I was sitting at her beach home listening to her talk. I felt as if I was peering over Elisabeth’s shoulder reading these letters, unfiltered, no nonsense, but with deep beauty.

The advice was so steeped in Scripture without any of the softening that so many books try to do. I loved the way she made fun of feminism and did not shy away from saying things that are politically incorrect with no apology. So many books on womanhood for Christian women (I am finding) almost sound as if they are apologizing for the politically incorrect way God wants women to live. Elisabeth Elliot does not apologize; she shows what a wonderful thing is.

This book really got me to thinking in such a good way. I saw so many areas that I need to allow God to work on me. There is nothing as empowering as seeing a reflection of what you are supposed to be, and I found it in this book.

Elliott does talk about sex in this book. After all, it is a part of life, womanhood, and her daughter was about to be married. I found this chapter one of the more encouraging ones, oddly enough. I think because she talks about it very matter-of-factly but also doesn’t become crude about it. All her advice and encouragement is steeped in biblical principles and personal experience. I didn’t find it awkward, but rather much like a good mother-daughter talk.

I highly recommend this book to women who are trying to live their life aligned with God and the Bible, not the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for every Christian woman... & I wish every woman could read it too!
Reviewed in India on October 13, 2018
It is a must book for every Christian woman. It has changed me forever (after ripping me into pieces initially). Whether single, committed, married or considering marriage etc. it is an eye opener for women to discern who they really are & the purpose God made them for. I love the way Elizabeth Elliot has written this for her daughter. She is very honest! All her years of experience, being in the mission field or in a city, being single, married, widowed etc. has been beautifully put in these pages. There is so much to learn from the life of this bold & graceful woman of God. I'd bought this book from a book store few months ago but lost it during a train journey couple of weeks ago (It probably went with the blankets & sheets... but hope another woman finds it & benefits from it). Was so happy to see it in amazon & so ordered it again. :)
