I have been in he lifestyle for a while as well as dealing with ropes/knots for most of my life for various hobbies. This is the book I have already recommended to anyone that wants a starter guide, even if they just have a simple curiosity. The writing is easy to follow and has some nice humor sprinkled in. The large amount of photos keeps it very basic for the novice to easily learn. Authors show you the basics from what a square knot is and how to tie it (a basic knot that everyone who picks up a rope should know) to what kind of rope can be used and on to basic rope designs to be used by everyone regardless of gender or sexual orientation. This book does not discriminate on any level but gives education and even helps to show you where to get materials and where you might want to go next after this book. There are other books out there that are good but only if you have a basic understanding, which this book provides. I added this book to my educational shelf as it even has great designs for anyone outside of the novice. Read this first before you start anywhere else or even before you buy your rope.

An easy to follow book with lots of diagrams showing many different styles of knots
and braiding which will come in handy for securing your product, subject or client as needed.
I purchased this book for kindle as a Portrait Client asked me if I knew about this type of
Japanese knotting and would I be willing to do a shoot in this fashion.

Well, I didn't know how, but I'm always willing to learn and do what I can to fulfil a clients needs.
So, I purchased it and read it in an afternoon and had practice all the knots within a week.
I'm just waiting for my client to make her appointment, for her requested shoot.

The main thing though, is that it explains things very easily, shows photographic images to
help people understand, and it also covers types of ropes, what they are best used for
and it also covers safety factors you need to know about each knot and rope type.

All I can say, is have fun with it, but please be mindful you can hurt the person being tied up.
