From the Author

The character of Angel St. Clair is dear to my heart. She is truly a broken woman having suffered so much. Of course, I love the way fate intervenes with a different plan than the one she has mapped for herself. If you've read book one, you know that Luke Samson, son of Brant Samson and stepson of Abby, went through his own suffering after the death of his mother. However, the unwavering love of his family changed him from a sullen, heartbroken boy, into the perfect man for an angel.

"2020 Finalist - Readers' Favorite International Contest (Paranormal Romance) for SOMEWHERE by the Sea."

"2014 Gold Medal Winner - Readers' Favorite International Contest (Historical Romance) for Abby: Mail Order Bride."

My perfect day: coffee shop; laptop; latte; characters demanding their stories be told; a plot that comes together; and hours to live in an alternate reality.

Seriously, I have always loved reading, and now I love writing. As a preteen, I devoured Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries, but when I reached my teen years the romance genre became my favorite, and that has never changed. After years of procrastinating, I tried my hand at writing and I've been doing so with a passion ever since. I have written over thirty romance novels and novellas in the genres of contemporary western, historical western, contemporary, and paranormal/fantasy. Because I hate saying goodbye to characters who have lived with me for months, I usually create a series so they can be revisited from book to book. I have also written a Young Adult novella titled "Fragile Hearts" using the pen name of Colleen Clay.

Here are some of my favorite reviews:

"I can say with all honesty that Verna Clay has become a favorite author of mine, and I was giddy to read the first book of this new series taking place in the fictional Arizona small town of Oasis...If you've never read a Verna Clay novel, now is the perfect time to embrace a new addiction. Side effects are chuckles, mild euphoria, and the production of good mood enhancing chemicals in the brain." ~Angie Just Read with The Romance Reviews (Stranded in Oasis)

"...The very talented Verna Clay simply leaves me in awe. Her ability to capture on the page the deeply emotional subjects that drive the everyman is done in a series of warm and tender moments that mean her craft for writing just gets better and better with every story told..." ~Angie Just Read with The Romance Reviews (Christmas Kisses)

"Verna Clay's writing is a new discovery for me. She enthralled me from the first word to the last page. All I want now is to read another book of hers..." ~Steffi with The Romance Reviews (Abby: Mail Order Bride)

"I loved this book. It had heart and made me cry a few times. It was so true to life in it's real emotions..." ~Florida Girl at Amazon (Abby: Mail Order Bride)

"This was a amazing journey...I have read it 3 times and still cry! I also laugh and love the characters. They touched my life in a very nice way..." ~Iwiggy at Amazon (Abby: Mail Order Bride)

"I haven't enjoyed such a read in a long while. Romance novels are so often wound around similar plots and flowery vocabulary, but "Dream Kisses" is a pleasant piece of pastry on a rainy day. It is that forbidden square of chocolate that gives hope to the hopeful romantic..." ~Lisa McCombs at Readers Favorite Book Reviews (Dream Kisses)

"...This is a wonderful romance series that will have you loving the characters, and wishing to join their lives on the ranch!" ~Kristie I. at Readers Favorite Book Reviews (Honey Kisses)

"...Incredible! Wasted pages of backstory are eliminated and Verna Clay immerses us directly into the life of the characters where they happen to be in this time of their lives. Abby: Mail Order Bride had me bawling! It was so touching and felt so very honest...this is truly a wonderful find..." ~Kim at Goodreads (Abby: Mail Order Bride)

As I pointed out in my review of  Abby: Mail Order Bride (Unconventional Series #1) , I do not usually read historical westerns. I made an exception with "Abby, Mail Order Bride". I loved it! I immediately purchased this book, the next in the series. It's about Luke, the son of Brent and his first wife Molly from the previous story.

Luke is a successful author of a series of continuing stories published in several popular newspapers. He meets Angel. A lady with a tragic past. Luke's and Angel's story takes a drastic change of direction when he gets word his father has been badly injured in a ranching accident.

Angel is older than Luke; just as Abby is older than Brent in the first story. That is not something I really like but, these are western men they do seam to mature early. I found it did not really bother me as I thought it might.

Not only do you get Luke's and Angel's story, you get reacquainted with Luke's wonderful family.

As with the previous book, there is a small about of love making. It is gentle and tender, and not at all graphic.

I just purchased the next in the Unconventional Series
Ryder's Salvation #Unconventional Series #3#

PLEASE NOTE: I wish I had realized there was a book with all these stories available.
Unconventional Series Collection #Abby: Mail Order Bride; Broken Angel; Ryder's Salvation#  It would have saved me some money. BUT, in my opinion, they are well worth the price I paid.

The second book in this series is just as good as the first and the story is worth it to read. Love is the theme of these books. Just like Abby found a very good love for her and healing so did Angel. Like his father before him Luke and Angel found love and trust in their lives

I really enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end. I found the plot was good and so was the story. It had just enough sex to keep it interesting. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good love story.

While this story is not as excellent as the first one in this series, it is still a good story and I am glad I ordered it.

For me, I thought that the character of Angel was not as well developed as Luke's although you do find out her life story. However I am thinking that just means tht I liked the story so much I wanted to know more details.

I like the feel good feeling from reading this series.

I am going to download the next story in this series. I want to read what happened to Jenny.

I look forward to reading the other books by this author. I enjoy her writing style.

I wanted something light and without a lot of violence to read. All of Verna Clay's books are laid back and easy to read. I love series books because I enjoy knowing all of the people. Clay's books leaves happy people at the end so the reader is happy as well.

I enjoyed the book enough to read the next sequel. I was looking for an audio book to keep me company hike at the art easel and found myself enjoying the story more than I thought I would. A sweet, touching and romantic story. I will say that the reader's voice was very monochromatic. Don't let her put asleep and you will enjoy the story.

I have read many books lately and this is one of many that I have really enjoyed. I found it very heartwarming that love conquers many a hard woman's heart and in this book it does just that. It is very well written, as was the first book and I could not put it down. An excellent read for all who love a good love story.
