About the author
William Theodore Clemmons is a construct of the mind, yet tied irredeemably to a place. That place is Detroit, or what remains of it.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2013I stumbled upon this novel by chance perusing Amazon prime for kindle - a lucky find to be sure.
To be honest, I am not usually a huge fan of crime/detective stories (and I don't often write reviews) but Heroes drew me in after just a few short pages and kept me fully engrossed throughout. Unique and intriguing characters drive this cleverly woven plotline set against the gritty, brooding backdrop of Detroit. Clemmons' rich narrative sets an ambiance not wholly unlike the great noir crime stories of yore, but with modern nuance. More than that though, a subtle mood permeates the novel which, similar to its setting, I can only best describe as kind of isolate and diaphanously haunting; surprising in a market flush with the dime book crime drama. Clemmons lends an uncommon voice and an unexpected depth to this classic genre. A jewel of a find. Highly recommend~
- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2013I second A.M.'s March 2013 review. Heroes is a rich, timely novel, resonant, rewarding and, yes, haunting. If you like sleek well-crafted prose, sharp dialogue, and vivid atmospheric settings, you'll enjoy yourself from the first page. I was mesmerized. If you like crime novels, if you like psychological novels, if you're interested in the history of 20th-century America--if "what's happening" to Detroit today makes you angry, worried, sad--download this book into your Kindle and start reading. I'm moving on to this mysterious author's 2nd novel (Smoke) and will be in line for more. A gem.
