God Does Love Me Kindle Edition

This book is a chronicle of my life and transition from male to female. I wrote it because I have learned that when one has been blessed and fortunate to experience life in a grand scale, one has to share it. Not only have I experienced life on a grand scale, but I have experienced it from both sides. Let me explain.

I have been blessed to live my life in both genders. As the title of this book suggests, this book is about my transgender journey to find my true self. Let it be known from the start, I do not, in any way, feel my life in the male gender was without value. Everything we experience in life is a teaching tool. And now that I have found my true self, I am able to see life through unique lenses. In fact, now I don’t just see life through my eyes. Now I see life with all my senses and that makes life worth so much more.

I have also been encouraged by many friends to write down my journey as it includes so many unique experiences. They feel that the lessons I learned can be encouraging and helpful to someone else who is struggling with similar issues about their gender identity.

Disclaimer: I knew Dawn many years ago as Duane. We lost touch, but never our friendship. In those years, I never suspected his "dark secret." Recently, Dawn reached out to me, and I look forward to a new, fuller friendship with Dawn.

No one who is not trans themselves can truly understand the life of a transgendered person, but Dawn's book gets as close as anything can to helping one feel the turmoil. From the time she surreptitiously tried on a pair of her grandmother's earrings at the age of 8, Dawn suspected that she wasn't meant to be the boy she was born. Deeply Christian, "Duane" tried to reconcile (and hide) his increasing cross-dressing activities from family, co-workers, and the Church. Duane studied for the ministry and was a successful minister until he was outed by members of his parish and forced to resign his pastorship. At a very low point in his life, Duane met a therapist who affirmed his value as a trans person and began living life fully as Dawn. Dawn is now happy, reconciled with her God, and a minister again in an accepting church.

If you are trans, think you are trans, know someone who might be trans, or just want to support the LGBTQ community, you must read this book! Just as Dawn's therapist saved Dawn's life, this book can save a life.

Dawn Flynn's story about her transition from a man to a woman is a very genuine exploration of humanity. In this book, she provides a detailed account of what it means to come into being; what it means to love and be loved. For a transgender woman to openly share the painful, rewarding journey of transition requires bravery and confidence. This book is an example of just that: the bravery and confidence demonstrated by a human being while in search of self. Dawn does not withhold anything about her life as a man, her life as habitual cross dresser, and her life as a woman. Her riveting story makes this book hard to put down.

When a book is written as though the author is sitting right next to you, you make a personal connection with the emotions behind the stories. Dawn's story goes beyond what most people can ever fathom - by ripping the cover off the heartbreak, loss and scrutiny that she and many others have endured through their journeys. After struggling with inner conflict and rejection that would leave most people in a state of utter defeat, she has somehow transformed it all into a source of inspiration. The fact that someone can hold so much love for others after experiencing such struggle is bewildering. Dawn has taught me the distinction between happiness and joy, and she has proved anyone can triumph over even the rockiest parts of life.

I never knew much about transgender, but now I am informed of something I never really knew existed.
I always figured people like that were just "messed up." ANYBODY who reads about this Dawn J. Flynn and what she had to go through here in the South to become what she already was - well, it sure opened my eyes. I really do recommend this book. It's not that hard to read and it's sad and funny - both at once. I could NOT put that book down!

Dawn has done a great job with this book, openly and honestly sharing such a personal story in a conversational manner. I felt like I was having coffee with her, hearing about her life! Dawn's perseverance and strength to become her true self, despite the obstacles, is admirable and inspiring. I learned a lot from this book and know others will too!
