About Michael Alvear
When I published my first books on Kindle, I’d check my anemic sales and let out a string of cuss words that made my dog blush. Then I developed my Attract•Engage•Convert strategy and sales took off.
As word got out that I sold over 100,000 ebooks, authors and publishers flocked to me for advice, attracted to the methodical ways I turned guerilla marketing tactics into stellar revenue. These strategies work for me, they work for my clients, and they will work for you. Believe in your books. Nobody believed in mine and now I make a great living as a writer. You can too by following my formula.

Why did I still buy it?
1. I am a soon-to-be fiction writer. So I felt it would be relevant.
2. Price point. At less than a dollar, I couldn't go wrong.
And moreover this was from the author of Make a Killing on Kindle, one book that I really loved as it was chock-full of amazing info.
He says in the description that he will tell you what keyword phrases to use for the novel. He absolutely delivers on this. The website has a ton of keywords for each category. The ranking and keywords are worth getting this book.
Section Two and Three of this book is pretty much covered in his earlier book. Maybe it was because I had already read it, so I didnt find it as ground-breaking as his previous book. IF you haven't read Make a Killing then simply GRAB this book. You will find it a hands down winner.
Final thoughts: The strategies in either books are solid gold. Even if you have read Make a Killing, as a fiction writer you should go for this one as well. The keyword concept and the lists on his website are too good to pass.
UPDATE: 5/13/2013: I uploaded my book, used all 4k words in my Description as he suggested(still tweaking & testing). Added his magic tip about the fiction keywords in title. Used his strategies for Category selection & voila, my book hit #1 in both categories during the KDP free days. It is also showing in first page for one of my main keywords after returning to Paid status. There is a lot that still needs to be done (cover testing, competition reviewing, etc.), but I know which book I will be referring to again & again for my marketing success. If you have found my short overview helpful, let me know by saying Yes below.
There is one note I want to make: I have now encountered in several different places the advice not to use Amazon's Author Central for your book description. Alvear also gives this advice. The reason is that Author Central allows a smaller word count and fewer html options to jazz up the page, and--here's the kicker--once you upload a description on Author Central, you can, according to advisers like Alvear, never go back to using the description field in KDP. The advise is FALSE. You absolutely can go back to the KDP description. I learned this the hard way.
First, unsure the advise was good, I called Author Central's support people. They were wonderfully helpful! First, the woman I spoke to, Lindsey, explained that I could use limited html via author central. Then, she said that she believed that if I uploaded a new description on KDP, that would supplant what was done in author central. Not believing her about the KDP issue, I did my best to use the limited html capabilities of author central, since I did not believe I had the option to use the greater flexibility of KDP. I saved my changes and was quite happy with them. Though they claim it will take 3-5 hours to show up on Amazon, within a few hours, I could see that the changes had gone live. Hooray!
Then I decided to take more of Alvear's advise to cut back on front and back matter so that readers using the "look inside" feature would get to my text quickly and so that readers getting to the end of the book would get to the "post a review" page quickly after the words "The End." I uploaded my new versions on KDP, leaving the same old ho-hum book descriptions in place, since I assumed that those would be ignored by Amazon in favor of the Author Central info.
Imagine my shock then, when I got the notice from KDP that my update books were live, and I saw that the crumby old book descriptions I had put in KDP ages ago had indeed replaced my carefully crafted descriptions, the very descriptions I labored on for hours just the day before via Author Central.
I logged in to Author Central and saw that the book description boxes had been filled with the KDP descriptions. I did not take any steps to make this happen. That means that YOU CAN INDEED GO BACK AND USE KDP EVEN IF YOU HAVE AT SOME POINT USED AUTHOR CENTRAL FROM YOUR BOOK DESCRIPTION.
The only issue I had, and it might not be an issue, is the part about being sent to share on facebook and twitter at the end of books. But I am using a smartphone with a Kindle app and maybe that applies to real kindles so I will not deduct a star.
I wish there was a section on how to deal with those pesky 1 star reviews. I wrote a religious work and I got 1-star reviews because I quoted the Bible too much. I am being judged not on quality but because peoples ideologies don't match what I am saying. There has to be a way to combat this in a positive way.
But if you write fiction and have trouble finding your way on Amazon, this is the book. I've applied the concepts to only one of my seven books and saw an increase in sales (think of it as a controlled experiment). I will say this, though, don't expect this book to rocket you to number one if you don't produce decent work (I've seen complaints from people who spelled words wrong in their titles).
But thanks for writing this book. Can't wait for more.

There is an area of particular help to first time authors who may feel overwhelmed as they tread the path of the new indie-author.
There seems so much to learn, apart from the actual writing of the book itself ,that at times the journey becomes daunting.
Just when you are thinking that you will never get through the morass, one of the trail blazers pops up with the very book you have been looking for. Top marks to Michael Alvear, he leads the pack again with another top quality product.
Best regards,
Irene Cuffe.
All in all a well structured and entertaining book.
