Was the Afghan boy asking for help? Or leading them into an ambush?

A hot night in June 2006. Special Forces Operation Detachment Alpha 777, the Triple Seven, gets a call for help. The Taliban have blockaded a village in the Afghan mountains, starving the people. Their crime? Educating girls in the village school.

A village boy escapes through the night to ask the Afghan National Army for help. Or did he?

Afghan Major Ibrahim Malik says his force is no match for the well-armed Taliban terrorists. Malik and the boy beg the Green Berets of the Triple Seven for help. But which side are the natives on?

The Green Beret soldiers infiltrate the village before dawn to face an ambush…

The soldiers of Team Triple Seven must fight for their lives, or the villagers won’t be the only ones the Taliban wipe out.

A word from the Author

When I read the inspiring story of the courageous then-Corporal (now Sergeant) Clifford M. Wooldridge, U.S. Marine, and his battle with the Taliban, I had to bring such heroism to a wide audience. Our service members put their lives on the line for us every day. Whether they are Marines like Sergeant Wooldridge, Navy SEALS like Marcus Luttrell (whose book Lone Survivor also inspired me), or U.S. Soldiers (represented by my fictional Carlos McCrary), these heroes deserve our gratitude and prayers every day.

What Readers are Saying:

★★★★★ “Thrilling realism…. This short story introduces Carlos McCrary, the main character in Dallas Gorham’s mystery/thriller series. Readers meet McCrary on his last combat mission in Afghanistan and learn he’s a man of honor and courage, risking his life to save an entire village and his teammates. Based on a true story, the author pulls his readers into the tension and terror of war using accurate details shared by Special Forces veterans. The realism is jarring, especially when a teammate’s body signal turns red, indicating his death. A must read for those who enjoy military action.” – SLM

★★★★★ “Outstanding!!! …based on a real story of true heroes in the world of Spec Ops. They fight … for all of us. Most times we never hear of the heroic things they do that are the norm for them. This will take 30 minutes to read, but well worth it!” – Yukon Jack

★★★★★ “…I was impressed with the author’s technical knowledge. The story resonates with … heroism… I’m ready for the next adventure.” –Harold T. Swartz

★★★★★ “…The author’s research for actual equipment, sites and protocol, give the reader a sense of, ‘being there.’ I can’t wait for the next Chuck McCrary adventure!” - Tom Thomas

★★★★★ “Outstanding… God bless the United States military.” - Marc Ouellette

★★★★★ Enjoy looking at a real hero... That is what it takes to get the job done.” - Martin Cooper

★★★★★ “Excellent author [with] the ability to keep the flow of the story and maintain high interest level throughout…” - Virginia Fralick

★★★★★ “Dallas Gorham [gives] an inside look at the planning and nerve-wracking action involved in carrying out a mission against the Taliban. Chuck McCrary is young, brave, not-to-be-toyed-with young soldier who happens to be a hero.” - L. Anders

About the Carlos McCrary Series

This fast-paced private investigator mystery thriller series has fans all over the globe. If you enjoy gripping thrillers that mix action, suspense, humor, and plot twists—all with a PG-13 rating—this series is for you.

Find out why N.L. Quatrano said: “Gorham writes the old-time type of good buy/bad guy story with today’s immediate action. The Carlos series is one worth reading, especially if you’ve ever been a fan of Elmore Leonard or Robert B. Parker—but Carlos McCrary is his own kind of PI. Each book has more twists and turns than the one before. Stories are well constructed and readers will enjoy from beginning to end.”

When not writing fiction, Dallas is frequent (but bad)golfer. He plays about once a week because that is all the abuse he canstand. One of his goals in life is to find more golf balls than heloses. He also is an accomplished liar (is this true?) and defender ofdown-trodden palm trees.

About the author

Dallas Gorham’s books combine murder, mystery, and general mayhem with a touch of humor—all done with a PG-13 rating. His Carlos McCrary, Private Investigator, Mystery Thriller Series can be read and enjoyed in any order.

Dallas writes in the mystery, thriller, and suspense genres. (Take your pick: His novels have all three elements). His stories will get your heart pounding and leave you wanting more. He writes to hit hard, have a good time, and leave as few grammar errors as possible (or is it “grammatical errors”? Hmm.)

In his previous life, Dallas worked as a shoe salesman, grocery store sacker, florist deliverer, auditor, management consultant, association executive, accountant, radio announcer, and a paid assassin for the Florida Board of Cosmetology. (He is lying about one of those jobs.) If you ask him about it, he will deny ever having worked as an auditor.

Dallas is a sixth-generation Texan and a proud Texas Longhorn, having earned a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Texas at Austin. He graduated in the top three-quarters of his class, maybe. He has also been known to lie about his class ranking.

Dallas writes an occasional blog post at http://dallasgorham.com/blog that is sometimes funny, but not nearly as funny as he thinks. The website also has more information about his books. A short fictional story based based on a real story of true heroes in the world of Spec Ops. They fight first and foremost for the brother standing next to them. Then they fight for all of of us. Most times we never hear of the heroic things they do that are the norm for them. This will only take you 30 minutes of your life to read, but well worth it!

This storyline is a bit too superficial. There is no depth. While there are names in the narrative, the characters are not well crafted. I was disappointed.

Chuck McCrary is a tough Marine who fights with his comrades in the "Triple Seven."
The boring night patrol changes when a young Afghan boy is brave enough to get help for his village.
The Taliban are starving the villagers for teaching their girls.
The author's research for actual equipment, sites and protocol, give the reader a sense of, "being there."
I can't wait for the next Chuck McCrary adventure!

This story is short and to the point. It's about a special op's operation in Afghanistan. There are no character descriptions or side stories to deal with. This is the direct opposite of other books I have recently read and found it to be disappointing.

Enjoyable short story of action against the Taliban, fairly predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. I felt that it could have been better finished , but as a taster to the authors work, it was effective.

Won't let me do zero stars. A very short story then rest of book is advertising other books and shows a random chapter, not worth it even if it was free
