Of course, I am not alone when I say....many, many years ago, Oz books sparked in me a life-long reading passion. When I realized my 9-year-old granddaughter was quickly becoming a bored and reluctant reader, I remembered Oz was my first journey into full-sized novels and how I eagerly sought out the next one at my local library. I felt strangely alive and proud that I had actually read these 'giant' books and enjoyed every minute of it. Today, series books are everywhere, but few written as well as Baum's stories...each one unique, but all connected. They are the perfect transition for a young maturing reader. The timeless fantasy captures a child's curiosity, but more subtle adult concepts/conversation holds their interest. So when my granddaughter asks for next book, I have been more than happy to buy. But glad to find these good-value combo paperbacks...three Oz books in one. These do not have illustrations like many Oz hardbacks, but after my granddaughter read first couple hardbacks and learned the characters, she doesn't even mention no pictures. Glad I found them. The Scarecrow and Tik-Tok are two of my favorites in the series.

She loves the original stories- and the Forwards by L. Frank Baum give great insight as to his motivation for each book- great stories from the turn of the 20th century.

No illustrations. No good. There are much better editions out there. Without the original illustrations, Oz books are not worth having.
