4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 21,058 ratings

Thirteen years ago, Vivi LeBrun was sketching a rooster and eating Oreos when she first met—and fell for—her friend’s brother, David St. James. Since then, her love for David has only intensified thanks to years of friendship with his family, who rescued her from a lonely, tumultuous childhood. As she travels to Block Island to vacation with the St. James siblings, Vivi daydreams about reuniting with David, hoping he’ll finally see her as his soul mate.

After his mother’s death, David distanced himself from his siblings, determined to hide a devastating family secret. Now, he’s brought a new girlfriend along to his homecoming—one who’s pushing for a serious commitment. The last thing he needs on his growing list of problems is his budding attraction to Vivi.

With tensions running high, David’s behavior triggers a series of events that might cost him the love he’s always taken for granted and Vivi the only real family she’s ever known.

The tone of Worth The Wait was somewhat…unexpected. As a romance involving the best friend’s older brother, one would expect fluff and heat and some substance. But this doesn’t read like your typical romance even though all the elements are there; a big beach house on an island, an unexpected but well known guest, a new girlfriend and heaps of tension. But despite all that, the whole time I read this story I had a major case of the feels.
Vivi has loved David since about five seconds after she met him, and years later not much has changed. Except everything else has, including David. Watching Vivi contend with the new, uncertain nature of their relationship along with the addition of the girlfriend who followed him halfway around the world, was heartbreaking. She put on a brave face, even when her best friend did her best to make it know how she would feel about a relationship between her best friend and her brother.
I don’t know, I thought Cat was a very selfish person aside from the drama with her boyfriend. She was probably my least favorite character, which doesn’t exactly bode well for me and the next book in the series, though I have doubts the other siblings’ stories could possibly rival Worth The Wait.
I’ve probably made this story sound like a big downer, but it isn’t. At all. The tone is different and I think that’s a good thing. Love isn’t always just chocolates and flowers and hot sex. Sometimes the journey is dramatic and painful and hellish, but you go through it to get to the prize at the other end…or you don’t.
I loved Vivi, I thought she was strong as hell despite all the crap life had heaped on her, and I think David did not deserve her love. He eventually earned it, in my opinion, but I still have doubts on whether or not he deserved it because she was great and there were plenty of times—over the years—he took advantage of that fact without acknowledging that she loved him.
I think Jamie Beck did a fantastic job with this story. I always love her stories and sometimes I dislike the heroine, but I always have a good time. If you love best friend’s older brother love stories, this one is just for you.

I am so disappointed in this story. I read "In the Cards", and was really impressed! I was excited to see she had several trilogies: more great stories and writing to be savored! ! Well, I was wrong. "Worth the Wait" is slow, kind of scattered, and pretty unbelievable. When did guys talk so much about FEELINGS?? And when did friendships bounce around so much with very little reason? The writing is done well, but the story wasn't. I don't care about the rest of the St. James, and won't be trying out other books of hers.

A good story about love, family, forgiveness and standing up for yourself and others, although one of the main characters was pretty selfish!

What a great book.

When Vivienne 'Vivi' LeBrun was 13 years old, she met and fell in love with her best friend's older brother, David St. James, while eating cookies at their kitchen table. Since then, her love for him has never stopped, only grown stronger due to their special friendship. David gets Vivi in ways others don't and she understands sees parts of him that others don't.

The St. James ' family rescued Vivi from a lonely and neglected childhood. Her dad's an alcoholic and she ends up being the adult before she should be.

Now at 26 years old, they are going out to Block Island to vacation in the St. James ' home. No one has seen David in 18 months after he transferred to Hong Kong for work. Vivi's hoping that seeing David after all this time will finally open up his eyes to her and really see her.

After David's mother died, he emotionally and physically distanced himself from his siblings to hide a devastating family secret. Now he's on Block Island with a new girlfriend who followed him from Hong Kong who's looking for a serious commitment.

After seeing Vivi all these months later, he doesn't see the little girl anymore, she's a beautiful woman and he doesn't know what to do with these feelings he has for her on top of everything else.

Vivi has always been there for David, but seeing that he brought someone to live with him, she realizes that she needs to move on with her life. No more fantasy of them together.

David realizes that he's taken advantage of having Vivi always being there, that this time she's not interested anymore.

A friendship is a two way road, not one of convenience.

A must read!

Vivi grew up loving David. She wa ins good friends with his sister, Catalina. She spent so much time at David's family home that she was accepted as a family member. Their attraction was one of friendship until one unforgettable encounter that made them realize that they had grown up.

Story 3.5 rounded up only because it just seemed a bit drawn out with way more problems than there should have been. And a lot of angst as well. However, listening made it for me. Kate Rudd gets 5 stars from me for her, as always, excellent narration. I liked Vivi, but David was not the best hero, I must say. Having said that, he did have reasons for some of the problems he had-particularly his not so great father. He is an excellent secret keeper, but I don't think his mother would have held him to the promise that causes him so much grief. These characters are grown ups and should not have to be shielded from problems that they have a right to know. My opinion only, but that part got a bit much after awhile. ***SPOILER** I noticed a lot of people considered this book cheating. I get it, but I don't really believe it, the hero had already broken it off with his girlfriend, so yeah, not sure why all the fuss. It only took me one day to listen so I did enjoy a lot of aspects

The story of love, friendship and forgiveness. Vivi has loved David since they first met when she was thirteen. Being older David cared for Vivi and they had a special relationship but he knew he was too old for her at the time. Now two years after his mothers death he comes home to find Vivi still waiting for him and he still can't make himself believe in love. He has secrets that are coming between himself and his family but he made a promise and he plans to keep it. He also is afraid of the reaction his family will have to him caring for Vivi, because she's been like family for all those years. After a scare with Vivi, David decides he's going to be the best thing in her life no matter what his family thinks.....life is too short. Wonderfully written I enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to more from Jamie Beck. Definitely recommend to read.

Have you ever had the feeling you could skip the lines between dialogue because (1) it's nothing but emotional rubbish, (2) the storyline is uncrative and foreseeable and (3) the characters create irrational conflict exactly when the situation requires it? Then you can grasp my feeling after reading the first of Jamie Beck's novels. Thank you, never again!
