The Third Twin Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 325 ratings

If you loved Natasha Preston's THE TWIN, you'll race through this edge-of-your seat thriller about identical twins with a shocking twist.

IT STARTED AS A JOKE.
When they were little, Lexi and her identical twin, Ava, made up a third sister, Alicia. If something broke? Alicia did it. Alicia was always to blame for everything.

NOW THE GAME IS ALL GROWN UP.
The girls are seniors, and they use Alicia as their cover to go out with guys who they'd never, ever be with in real life. But sometimes games just aren't worth playing. A boy has turned up dead, and DNA evidence and surveillance photos point to only one suspect—Alicia. The girl who doesn’t exist.

IDENTICAL TWINS. IDENTICAL DNA. IDENTICAL SUSPECTS.
Ava insists that if they keep following the rules for being Alicia, everything will be fine. But Lexi isn't so sure. She must find the truth before another boy is murdered.

BECAUSE EITHER AVA IS A KILLER . . . OR ALICIA IS REAL.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 9 Up—Twins Lexi and Ava have been playing a game since they were little girls: they have created an imaginary third twin, Alicia. As young girls, the sisters would blame naughty behavior on their imaginary sibling. Now as teenagers, the sisters vicariously imagine the free-spirited Alicia indulging in the wilder side of life: dressing provocatively, and with a cadre of attractive boyfriends. Then the game begins to have dangerous consequences—people are turning up dead. Is one of the sisters to blame or is Alicia real? This compelling story filled with serpentine twists and turns will leave readers guessing at every step, and breathless at the climactic conclusion. Hand to readers who crave suspenseful, plot-driven thrillers.—Melanie Okadigwe, Greene Hill School, Brooklyn, NY

One of those books where the ground keeps shifting, you question and suspect everyone -- and the answer is what you least expected! The story is a high wire act. Two twins invent a third, "Alicia," who has the freedom to act as she pleases (whereas the good girl narrator Lexi is constrained by her desire to please her father and her obsession with getting into the right school). Only one problem. It seems Alicia has come to life and is leaving a path of destruction (and dead bodies) in her wake. The invented "third twin" appears to be a murderous femme fatale, and it's up to Lexi and her flirty, flighty sister Ava to stop her.

Well, actually, it's mostly up to Lexi. I identified with the studious, ambitious Lexi who feels afraid to disappoint anyone and who believes she can solve this quickly escalating horror story by herself. There's fun wish fulfillment in scenes of dressing up and role playing. And there are deeper threads in the family ties that bind the sisters with their father. Lexi has to reimagine herself in a way that goes far beyond the surface changes she takes on when she becomes Alicia. True character change, romance, and desperate thrills make this a fantastic, gripping read.

Lexi and Ava are twins. They have a devoted father who loves them fiercely. They have Cecilia, who wears many hats...nanny, cook, maid. She has been with the twins almost their whole life.

Lexi and Ava are identical twins who sometimes like to play tricks on the boys they are dating. Instead of playing each other, they made up the "third" twin named Alicia. Alicia, is much more out going than Lexi or Ava, and is much more adventurous. Alicia, is also a lot of trouble.

What started out as fun for Lexi and Ava, eventually turned out to be very bad....and it was all Alicia's fault. Even if she didn't really exist.

This was a fun story to read. I love stories about twins. There are not many that I have read, but the ones I have read always turn out quite interesting. Ava, and Lexi are great characters. They are very different in personalities, but each ones has something unique about them.

Alicia, was mischievous. I guess it was Lexi and Ava's way of letting some of their rebellion out. She makes for a very interesting character.

There are a lot of great side characters that you come to love in this book as well. The author did a great job of bringing every character into the book. I love the voice she gives all her characters. Zane is probably my favorite ;).

The world Omololu built was great. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning which I loved. She has a way of making every day life seem much more exciting than it is in the "real" world. I love it when I can escape in a book and feel like I am sitting on the sidelines watching, or even participating in it. She brought my imagination to life with all the twits and turns.

If you like mystery, I think you will really enjoy this book. I hope you give it a chance. If you do I would love to hear what you think.

Source: I bought this book for myself. I was not compensated in any way for this book. These are my own PERSONAL thoughts on the book.

THE THIRD TWIN is a thrilling and spellbinding mystery full of twists and turns that will keep readers guessing as to who the killer is, a touch of romance, an engaging plot, and an ending that is sure to surprise. Hints are dropped, clues are left – some which are meant to intentionally mislead – and potential suspects are introduced, combining to make this an even more gripping and exciting read.

Ava is the gorgeous, confident twin. Lexi is the plain, studious twin. And Alicia is the twin they made up to take the blame, to date the boys who aren’t keepers, and to give Lexi the chance to be someone other than herself.

But when Lexi-as-Alicia’s date with one of those non-keepers – a boy that Ava-as-Alicia was already done with – goes south, she’s ready to say goodbye to Alicia forever. That is until the boy turns up dead and the police are knocking at the door looking for their non-existent third twin.

With no easy way to come clean about their deception without casting suspicion upon themselves, Alicia may just have to stick around for awhile longer. Though the longer she does, the more likely it is the truth will be revealed. And as she can’t possibly be the killer, does it mean that Ava is?

Author C.J. Omololu created a riveting story, told from Alexa’s point of view, that manages to place suspicion on a number of characters, including Lexi herself. She builds tension and suspense throughout as the bodies start to pile up, as the evidence starts to point more directly at Lexi and her sister, and as the dangers and risks grow. And she adds in the unexpected to keep things interesting, to keep doubt and uncertainty alive, and to keep the killer’s identity hidden.

THE THIRD TWIN offers more than just a nail-biting mystery for readers to puzzle out. It introduces two vastly different but ultimately likable twins whose harmless fun proves to be anything but, whose lies can be used against them, to corner them, and whose doubts can turn them against one another. It includes a diverse group of characters, most of whom have an important role to play in the story and its outcome. And it delivers a jaw-dropping ending that readers likely won’t have seen coming.

Those who enjoy a story that will keep them glued to the page, with characters whose motives are concealed and intentions are suspect, characters whose situation is intriguing and dangerous, and characters who add a little swoon into the mix, will fall head-over-heels for THE THIRD TWIN.

It’s a little bit chilling. It’s a whole lot fascinating and puzzling and captivating. It’s a story that can be and will likely be read in a single sitting. It’s a definite must from Author C.J. Omololu.
