Protector (The Witches of Cleopatra Hill Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 995 ratings

Caitlin McAllister has been keeping a secret. While her clan suffers for lack of a seer, she’s been hiding her gift of second sight—hiding and running away from a destiny she does not want and has done her best to escape. Unfortunately, she finds that keeping secrets carries its own price when she and two of her friends end up in the hands of three evil warlocks who seem intent on using the young witches for their own dark purposes.

Far from her clan’s territory, Caitlin turns to Alex Trujillo, whose grandmother is the
prima of the de la Paz witch clan and whose own gift is the ability to cast a unique kind of protective spell, to help her with tracking down the warlocks who planned the kidnapping.

As Alex and Caitlin work together to save her friends, they find themselves falling under one another's spell. But their combined talents may not be enough to save the kidnapped witches…or to stop a murderous conspiracy that threatens the safety of all the Arizona witch clans.

A native of Southern California, USA Today bestselling author Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in grade school. Because she's a lover of many genres, her books include paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and paranormal cozy mystery. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. The Land of Enchantment cast its spell on her while she was researching her Djinn Wars series, and she now makes her home in New Mexico.

I love this book. I have enjoyed the whole series so far. Caitlin is a McAllister witch. She plans on going on spring break with her friend Roslyn and cousin Danica in Tucson, which is the territory of the de laz Paz clan. After being kidnapped she falls in the arms of Alex Trujillo (a possible consort of Angela's) with a bleeding stab wound. Caitlin will stop at nothing to find out who her kidnappers are, where they are and how to put a stop to them. The book is well written and easy to read. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. I was breathless, heart broken, excited, sad and a few other emotions I felt while reading this book. The characters and story are well depicted. I can't wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book for YA readers who enjoy witch books and/or paranormal romance

I enjoyed this even though some of the characters are kidnapped and subject to mind control,
abuse, and violence. Alex and Caitlin are a great team as they to recover those who were
kidnapped and trying to resist their attraction to each other. Must read. Adults 18+ only
for sensual scenes.

I think this was a good read, although it was very dragged out.. not much of a page turning story. It was kind of annoying how it didn't have much action. It was brief climax then died down for half the book, then had a brief/ short climax when they caught the guy in the end. This book was okay, not as much of a page Turner as it was with the first books regarding Angela and Connor. I also am not likening how it went from one life story of Angela and Conner then started bouncing to different characters in the town. I hope it is leading up to something good with the twins.

I liked this book as I have the ones preceding it and am excited for the next one in the series. However, this one seemed a little too similar to the 2nd and 4th in the series in that they all had the same general set up: girl meets guy, girl stays with guy in his home for an extended amount of time despite barely knowing him, they have sex, fall in love and live happily ever after. They're good stories, but a slightly different set up might be good for the sake of variety. Aside from that, well written and each book is hard to put down - I'm hooked!

Got the first three on BookBub, read them and bought the next three. I am from Tucson and really liked having these stories set in Arizona. Tucson is a dark city: with minimal street lighting and home lights must be aimed at the ground. This is not so we can see the stars better, but so the astronomers at the Kitt Peak Observatory, just southwest of Tucson are better able to se the stars. Keep writing Ms. Pope.

This story was powerful and incredibly emotional. Some parts were difficult to get through due to instances of rape. Be careful if you have triggers. Not too descriptive or violent, but still very much rape. The rest of the storyline was amazing. It was definitely a roller coaster ride. A bittersweet ending for these two.

Ok, I bought the first five to see what happened...as each book went on, the sexual content became more explicit...not much left to imagination. Each of the lead female characters has had the same characteristics: ordering a side of mac and cheese with a burger; disliking the taste of coffee, while enjoying the smell; liking Darjeeling tea. Not sure I will buy book six when it comes out this fall, but would hope that the author would use her own imagination a bit more, as I get the feeling that she has projected her own particular tastes upon each female lead...gets a bit wearisome.

edited to add...in five books, still don't know anything about Cleopatra Hill...absolutely not one mention of it.

Two years has past since we last heard from the McAllister clan. PROTECTOR is Alex and Caitlin's story. Although interesting, the story felt rushed, and rightly so because lives depended on Caitlin's gift, but not really finished in Book 5 of the Witches of Cleopatra Hill. Tragedy, practicing forbidden black magick, new clan structures plague Christine Pope's saga of the ever-evolving witch clans living in the Southwestern region of the US. We visit with familiar characters with the edition of new ones. Pope helps us to know old characters better and introduces new ones, making us want to know more about their lives. I'm intrigued to continue reading on to Book 6, Spellbound. We want more!

I really enjoyed all the books in this series so far! I had a really hard time putting my kindle down to go to sleep at night. When I did put it down, it was like someone put a bookmark in my pillow, and my dreams turned into extensions of the book! It was pretty cool.....but I was so tired in the morning! Can't wait till the next book in this series comes out as I seem to be on a cliff.....hanging by my fingers wating to see what happens next!
