4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 680 ratings

How do you make something out of nothing?

Up your game with this masterclass in creative thinking. Combining Dave Trott's distinctive, almost Zen-like storytelling, humour and practical advice,
One Plus One Equals Three is a collection of provocative anecdotes and thought experiments designed to light a fire under your own creative ambitions.

From the First World War sailor who survived being sunk three times in one day to the one-time 'merchant of death' who made his name a byword for peace, and the gypsy who lost two fingers and then reinvented jazz. From boardroom to battlefield, these stories of unconventional wisdom from one of the world's true advertising greats are a rallying cry for anyone who wants to think differently, stand out and truly innovate.

Loved this book so much, after loaning it to a friend for a while, I ended up buying it for him. Can’t say enough good things about it and Dave Trott in general.

Dave Trott's books are amazing. I've read all of them and One Plus One is one of the best ones. His style is great and the reading goes with the flow. When you are not expecting, the book is over and this will make you sad. All the stories and lessons are great and you can learn a lot with all of them. Really recommend not only for ad people, but everyone who enjoys creativity.

Storytelling - it is all about. A quick day read of various short stories: on history, economy, architecture, arts, finance, literature etc all sharing the same moral - creativity. Some of those stories are well know, some - less known but interested enough to go through. It feels like you are talking to your mate.

Dave Trott's book is full of ideas and shows, briefly, how and what people did which brought them success. A great read which will start the gears in your brain turning. Lots of bite-sized wisdom inside.

Oh my god this book!

I feel stupid that I've only just picked this up, 5 years since I first began studying advertising. This book is more than another book about advertising - it's inspiration and ideas when you need them most.

With so many chapters and stories of just a few pages, I can guarantee I will pick it up for years to come whenever I'm stuck on a brief and need just a little bit of a push in the right direction.

If you are in a creative career and buy one book - make it this.

Histoires vraies courtes et impactantes qui laissent une trace dans notre cerveau.

J'ai bien aimé les histoires sur les structures, si quelque chose ne marche pas il faut en changer l'architecture, très intéressant.
