About the Author

John Dickson (PhD) is co-director of Centre for Public Christianity (publicchristianity.org), an independent research and media organization promoting the public understanding of the Christian faith. With a degree in theology (Moore Theological College, Sydney) and a doctorate in ancient history (Macquarie University, Sydney) he is a senior research fellow of the Department of Ancient History, Macquarie University, where he teaches courses on Christian origins and the world religions. John is also the Senior Minister at St. Andrews Roseville (standrews.net.au), an innovative Anglican community on Sydney's North Shore. He has a wealth of experience as a local church pastor, public evangelist, and media presenter. He is the author of more than a dozen books and the host of two major television documentaries on the life of Jesus. He lives in Sydney with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children.

John’s story is eclectic. Starting out as a professional singer-songwriter, he now works as an author, speaker, historian, and media presenter. He was the Founding Director of the Centre for Public Christianity (2007-17). He has published over 20 books, and has co-written and presented three historical documentaries for Australian television and cinema. He teaches a course on the Historical Jesus at the University of Sydney, Australia, and is a Visiting Academic in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Oxford University (2016-2021). In 2019 he was appointed Distinguished Fellow in Public Christianity at Ridley College (Melbourne), where he teaches part-time across a range of on-campus and online subjects. John hosts Australia's no.1 religion podcast, Undeceptions. He lives in Sydney with his family.

A wonderful book that proves the life of Jesus Christ using sources outside of the Bible. These days, many of the "humanists" I discuss Christ with believe that Jesus is a fictitious character concocted from a phony and biased book called the Bible. "A Doubter's Guide To Jesus" puts an end to this myth and is a powerfully persuasive tool that can be used to help break down their defense and possibly win them over to the love of Jesus Christ. Another book I would highly recommend, besides the Bible of course, is "Unbelievable?: by Justin Brierley. Who after 10 years of hosting a radio show talking with Atheists, is still a Christian. It is brilliantly laid out, and in my case, wonderfully narrated by Justin himself. Along with the bible, these two books are definitely the "one-two hug" (no punch here...haha). Not only does the author present Jesus based on historical facts without regard to "proving" the miracles (you cannot but the surrounding facts are compelling), he brings to point historical and cultural facts which make the person of Jesus much more full. From this perspective, I found myself in multiple instances thinking "how insightful", and the like. And I am not easily impressed by most apologetic writings. Well worth the read, not to mention the minimal cost. I have purchased and given away multiple copies and intend to do even more.
