I had the wonderful pleasure of reading an ARC of this debut novel of a new series by NYT and USA Today bestselling author, M. A. Comley. A long time fan of her Justice series, I was surprised--in my humble opinion DI Sally Parker has blown DI Lorne Simpkins now Lorne Warner out of the running as my favorite all time series star. A huge fan of the Alex Cross series by James Patterson, I love when I find an author that can keep a series going and still write page turning mystery/suspense and thrillers. I'm impatiently waiting for book 2 in this series and hope Ms. Comley doesn't make me wait too long.

Book 1 introduces DI Sally Parker and her team. A serial killer is on the loose and one, at first glance, that shouldn't be hard to find as he picks his victims up in local bars and leaves behind a DNA sample. While waiting for the DNA results Sally and her team find themselves up against a brick wall as no one remembers who the victims were talking to or waited on at the bars. This guy simply blends in with the woodwork. They get their first break when the DNA samples come back with a hit on a convicted rapist recently released from prison. Like all criminals he professes his innocence, but with his arrest the team relaxes and plans their celebration--until another body turns up.

Combine the above with fabulous scenes into Sally's personal life, her partner's personal life, and you have a top notch read that will keep you turning pages all the way to the end--which leads to a very unexpected surprise. It's difficult to write more without giving away spoilers that I would prefer you read and enjoy for yourselves. A fabulous book with great characterization, well thought out and written plot and a fast paced thriller I simply couldn't put down.

I gave this book five stars and can highly recommend it to all my friends and fans.

Needs more character fleshing out. Needs more about the team. I hope Sally’s DV experience is treated in more depth.

We’ve been trying out some new authors lately, randomly seeking some good female protagonists. Surely Brit author Comley, with over three dozen novels to her credit, must be popular, with “Wrong Place” the first of four in her recently published Detective Inspector Sally Parker series. Unfortunately, the book seemed a little amateurish to us, with very little momentum despite a slew of serial killings of young females. The relationship between Parker and her sidekick Blackman seemed odd in that she treated him as a subordinate while he treated her like a partner. Parker also tolerated unwarranted abuse from both her ex as well as a perp, hardly likely when she was armed and they weren’t. We also smelled a rat with the messy DNA left behind at each scene, virtually screaming out issues that were resolved only late in the action.

Compared to modern-day thrillers, this police procedural was pretty tame. Parker was barely likable as a protagonist, and the plot was neither innovative nor compelling. Oh well.

The story line was very intriguing and the character development was outstanding. I will read more books by this author.

I am so use to reading the "Justice" series that I had to get to know these new characters before I got comfortable with them and comfortable with the kind of people that they are. I guess one of the reasons was because I was use to Lorne (Justice series) and with Lorne having the support of a very good husband and daughter. Sally's family consists of her parents—whom she does not live with. So she lived alone with no immediate support when she really needed it.

The story itself was intriguing. The big question was why was the murderer leaving his DNA at all the crime scenes—that was the biggest part of the mystery since we all knew while reading the story that there was no way this murderer was going to do anything purposely to get caught. I figured out part of the "how" but not the why. I can't go into too many details or that will spoil the story for you—you will want to figure it out yourself!

Sally is a very mixed character—a very strong person when it comes to her job but at loss in her personal life—when dealing with her ex-husband! She freezes up and becomes a victim when dealing with the ex. For the hundredth time I wished that the police in England could carry a gun because then Sally's husband would not have been so quick to do some of the things he did to her—he would have had serious second thoughts.

The only part of her professional life that I wished that she had done things a little differently was when she told a mother with a bad heart that her daughter had been murdered. I cringed with the way she handled this. I would have done it a little differently but maybe she just did not think of the better solution. I guess having been a CCU nurse was the reason this part bothered me so much.

I really liked Sally's parents—especially her father. He was very protective of his family and of Sally's dog, Dexter. When Sally interacts with her family she seems to be a different person to me—a bit more human and understanding.

"Wrong Place" had a satisfying conclusion but I think I was more satisfied with how Sally finally handled her ex husband at the end than with the rest of the story.

This story kept me reading until I read it all in one setting. Of course my husband complained because I was late starting supper! (This is a stand alone story for all who wants to know.)

Meet Detective Inspector Sally Parker, who works for the Norfolk Constabulary Police. She is young and independent, yet highly effective, and her talents are put to good use in this, the first of a six-book series featuring the young female DI. In this case she's pitted against a charismatic serial killer who seduces and beds his victims before brutally murdering them. Super-prolific, award-winning author M.A. Comley delivers again in this new book, with a combination of colorful, believable characters, a deranged sociopathic killer, and a narrative full of plot twists and surprises. You'll love Sally Parker and want to read more of her adventures. I certainly did!

5.0 out of 5 stars I hav just finished reading WRONG PLACE a gripping mystery novel by M A Comley. Once I started reading the book, I couldn't stop till the end. Whenver Scott's attack scene reaches, the suspense reaches to undescribable height. Though the murdered girl is describe with utmost economy of words, I felt skipping my hear beat. Then untyring persistence of Sally and Jack is unforgettable. The suspense pervades page after page till the serial killer is caught. The final arrest of Darryl by Sally and Jack is very dramatic and unexpect master stroke by Comley. I am sincerely grateful to the celebrated author that let me have an opportunity to read the novel. I have joined one of the millons of Comley'fans. Thank you very much.

really enjoyed this book and read it in less than 24 hours. It's the first in a new series featuring Detective Inspector Sally Parker and is set in Norfolk.

Sally is a strong and compassionate character and I liked her instantly. I loved the rapport between her and Jack, a Detective Sergeant.

The motive for the crimes was certainly not one I'd come across before. The DNA clues were also very original.

Anyone who has read any of Mel's books will love this new series. I look forward to reading many more stories about DI Sally Parker.
