4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 170 ratings

COUNSELING GHOSTS DOESN'T LEAVE ROOM FOR A LOVE LIFE... Shopping for Christmas, author Kerri Tollbrook is more annoyed than startled when a ghost tells her a gift she's about to buy will end up in the nearest donation bin. He's right, and well... gorgeous with those haunted brown eyes and self-assured bearing. Unlike most men, he's not afraid of her unusual gift. And the connection she feels surprises her. But even she can't date a dead man. INVISIBLE FOR A YEAR... Firefighter Galen McAllister is stunned the petite redhead can see and hear him. It feels almost normal to talk to another human again, but if things were truly normal, he'd already be asking her out. The woman is a triple threat – smart, funny, pretty, even if she's insisting he needs to "cross over". He can't, not after an ancient evil ripped him away from his body. And he refuses to leave as long as the creature is free to do the same to others. A RITUAL TO PURGE EVIL... There's no time to kiss under the mistletoe. The demon with a taste for human life force is coming back for a final feast. Helping ghosts is one thing, but Kerri is determined to banish the monster by any means necessary, even if Galen only wants enough "answers" to help him take the demon down himself. She can't let Galen die for real. He can't bear to put Kerri in the creature's path. But if they don't work together on this, they aren't the only ones who will die just in time for Christmas.

JUST LOVE MY BOOKS - 5 STARS - "...Not only is Christmastime my favorite time of the year for the obvious reasons, but also because I love reading heartwarming stories written with a Christmas theme. So far I have already read several and "The Holiday Spirit" is my favorite. It's not a typical romance. There is suspense and some darkness that I don't usually like to read about in a Christmas romance. However this one was amazing and my first five star rated in this genre. Wow, Dani Harper had to have done some intense researching to make this story so realistic given it is a paranormal. "The Holiday Spirit" is one of my top ten holiday romances ever."

NIGHT OWL REVIEWS - 4.25 STARS - "...The Holiday Spirit tells the story of Kerri Tollbrook, a woman who can communicate with ghosts but is startled to discover that firefighter Galen McAllister is not her typical 'client'. He finds a way to touch her body and heart and she gives him a reason to fight for a way for them to truly celebrate Christmas with each other. Together, they search for a way to defeat an inimical being known as Nah'mindhe, but even the support of a knowledgeable aunt, a crusty ghost, a feisty pug, and a nurse with connections to the occult may not be enough."
REDZ WORLD REVIEWS - 5 stars - "... I liked the twists and turns of this story. I never really knew what would happen next. I also loved the humor. I love romances that can blend chemistry with the characters and a great sense of humor, and this one does that. Even if you are not into holiday stories I think this is a great little read to pick up. It has action, adventure, and a whole lot of love inside."

ABOUT THIS BOOK

Once upon a time I wrote a short story titled The Holiday Spirit. I had a great deal of fun creating it, and was thrilled when my little paranormal romance received some wonderful reviews. When The Holiday Spirit finished its publishing contract, I foolishly thought that I was done with it. However, the characters refused to lie quiet! They've literally haunted me for a very long time, poking and prodding me to revisit this project.

So I did. Too late I realized that I wasn't in charge of this story at all: my characters were! And they had a whole lot more to tell. The entire project was rewritten from the ground up into a FULL LENGTH NOVEL.

And then there was more... and more! Turns out, the Holiday Spirit is only the beginning! Right now I'm developing THE HAUNTED HOLIDAY SERIES, and working on Book 2.

To all of my wonderful readers who have taken this story to their hearts--thank you!

To my potential readers--if you enjoy a ghostly romance with a lot of suspense or a holiday paranormal with a fresh twist, this might be just what you're looking for.

And to my unruly cast of characters who hijacked the story--you can undo the duct tape and the rope now...

Sincerely, Dani Harper

Absolutely one of the most memorable stories I've read. It was not only romantic but the paranormal suspense was incredible. So much more than simple romance. Totally recommend this to add to your TBR holiday lists!!!

*This is a revised edition. Original, which is no longer available was much shorter*

"The Holiday Spirit" All She Wants for Christmas Is A Ghost... is written by author Dani Harper.

Every November I filter in Christmas romances in between my usual reading. By mid December, I'm reading mostly holiday novels. Not only is Christmastime my favorite time of the year for the obvious reasons, but also because I love reading heartwarming stories written with a Christmas theme. "The Holiday Spirit" is one of my top ten holiday romances ever.

So if you love Christmas, paranormal romance and a lovable cast of characters, you must add this book to your TBR.

Kerri Tollbrook is a writer, a lover of nature and someone who respects all the elements of Earth, seen and unseen. Kerri is a counselor to ghosts. I wouldn't exactly call her a stereotypical witch although she can cast magic spells. She is smart, kind and very good in heart and soul. I really adored her as a character.

Galen McCallister is not dead (yet) but an ancient spell cast by an evil entity has removed his spirit from his body. For almost a year he has existed in a ghostly form. When he discovers that Kerri can actually see and talk to him, he remains by her side, unwilling to lose the human connection she offers. Kerri may be Galen's only hope in removing the evil spell and putting him back into his body. A body that currently lays in a coma in the hospital.

Kerri, along with a magical, lovable cast of characters set out to find a way to help Galen before it is too late. If they don't hurry, the spell cast upon him will become permanent and he will lose his life completely. Not only will he cease to exist, he will lose the woman he has grown to love with all his heart.

This novel was fun, adventurous, quirky at times and romantic. There was darkness too that threatened not only Galen and Kerri's happily ever after, but their very existence.

"The Holiday Spirit" is definitely a reread for me!

I'm going to look for #2 as soon as I leave this review! I loved the concept of the non corporeal spirit having the strength to fight for it's life in a physical way! Hopefully I will enjoy the next story as much! I especially liked the inclusion of the voodoo practitioner. Lots of twisty turns!

Kerri Tollbrook can see and talk to ghosts. Her special skill is in helping them cross over. So when she responds to a ghost's comment and he answers back, it never occurs to her that he isn't the usual unusual phenomena. He, however, is shocked. In nearly a year, Kerri is the first person to recognize that he's there. He has a hard time convincing her that he's not a ghost. Instead, his spirit is being used to feed and ancient entity who needs the souls of people to feed off of. Kerri is willing to risk everything to free Galen from the monster and reunite him with his body. What she doesn't realize is that Galen is willing to do whatever it takes to protect Kerri from the same.

I really enjoyed this book. I had read another book earlier this year that was about a spirit trapped and a spirit enabler who helped ghosts cross over and at first I thought this might be about the same story. However, once past the ghost/non-ghost introduction, The Holiday Spirit took on its own life. Well written and entertaining.

This was a different change on romantic ghost stories, Kerri Tollbrook is a psychic counselor for ghosts (who knew?) seems along with the recently departed who don't know they have passed or don't know how to follow "the light" there are others who want to get messages and or information to their families, and those who just want to remain on earth. Kerri can see and speak with them but she's never seen a ghost with the problem that Galen McAllister has, it seems he is not dead. Once he gets Kerri on board along with her resident ghost Fred, they start to realize there is more going on than Galen being in a coma and they only have a limited amount of time to help him before the cause of the coma comes back to harvest his life.

I love it! Definitely a twist to the storyline that makes it stand out. I had a hard time not peeping ahead to see how the resolved the problems they had. I would have liked to know how many other had the same problem as Galen.

What an excellent story! I must admit that I passed on this book several times based on the title alone. I thought, oh great another stupid Hallmark esque sappy holiday book, probably has a billionaire in it too! But boy was I ever wrong!!! I should have known better as I love Dani Harper's Grim series. In fact that's what pushed me to read this book, if I loved that so much (I am in the process of rereading that series!) How could this be bad even with a crappy title? So in I went with low expectations. Omg I could barely put it down! Great story, wonderful character's and a really creepy evil thing. And now for my highest recommendation... I'm going to reread it again right now!!

Concept is great, storyline is great, rather original really. Liked it immensely. Characters are great, Galen a bit too soft for my taste but that's just my preference talking. Even sidekicks are great and kinda funny. But. But it all felt flat. Even her agony when losing the love of her life. Not even a twinge of emotion from me. And I have no idea why. A novel experience for me while reading this author's book. So, 3 stars for the idea, and new world I've lived in for a while and the occasional laugh. The pug was hilarious 😊

I enjoyed this story. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept it there the whole time. The story was easy to follow without lots of twists and turns to confuse you. The characters were likeable. You did care what happened to them. Warning-There is graphic sex in this story so I would not recommend it for children. I would recommend it for anyone interested in urban fantasy and paranormal.

Absolutely loved this book! It's a great mix of magic and old folk lore based around Christmas time. The characters were interesting and realistic, and the love aspect was well-written, an integral part of the book rather than overwhelming the storyline.
As it's so long since this was published I really hope plans for more in the series have not been abandoned. I will be following this author from now on. Thank you Dani for a brilliant read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Galen & Kerri
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 20, 2019
This is the story of Kerri Tollbrook, who is startled by whats looks to be a ghost giving her advise about the gift she is buying. Being a counsellor for ghosts, she feels that she needs to help him crossover.
Galen McCallister is a firefighter whose body is currently lying in the hospital in a coma, it seems that an ancient evil ripped his soul right out of his body and he will not leave until this ancient spirit is gone for good.
This was a great Christmas story where we see Galen & Kerri fighting this evil together and with the help of some fantastic cast of characters to help them.
Can they stop this evil in time before Galen ceases to exist and dies for real.
Can’t wait for the next instalment in the Haunted Holiday series by Dani Harper.
