The Case of the Woebegone Widow: A Richard Sherlock Whodunit Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 143 ratings

It seems only fitting that Sherlock is hot on the trail of insurance malfeasance in the middle of a miserable Chicago winter. It is all quite an undertaking dealing with a grief-stricken widow living in Catatonia, Russian mobsters, Silly Putty smugglers, and a dead suspect, who shows up dead for a second time frozen solid in a 7-11 dumpster.
Toss in Tiffany meeting her match in a fight for affection, snow days, sniffling daughters, and an afternoon being whisked in a communal bathhouse, and you have the fifth Richard Sherlock Whodunit,The Case of the Woebegon Widow.

About the Author

Jim Stevens has been writing for over thirty years. Usually without much success, but for some reason he keeps writing. Jim started writing TV series specs in the 1970's and starved. He segued into spec movie scripts and really starved. He went into the corporate world for a twenty-five year career in broadcasting and advertising, but just couldn't drop his pencil. He found time to write plays in the Chicago theater scene, wrote, produced, and directed numerous short films, videos, and TV commercials, created TV pilots, and even optioned a few movie scripts that never saw the glare of the Klieg lights. Jim has been writing novels for the past four years. His Richard Sherlock Whodunit series has ranked him in the top 10% of Amazon authors. He is also the author of WHUPPED, a reverse romantic comedy from many different points of view. His latest novel, Hell No, We Won't Go A Novel of Peace, Love, War, and Football is his first writing of a 'serious' nature.

I especially liked that we learn a little more about Tiffany's human side in this one. In many ways Sherlock is parenting her as well. And didn't have a clue about the ending.

I liked the story and the ending, but grew tired of the sitcom-ish dialogue among all characters. Some was humorous and elicited chuckles, true, but got to be too much. Also found too many cynical similes in descriptions or comparisons; maybe a few metaphors would be refreshing. This is my third book by this author so I knew what to expect in style and will probably read more until I fire of the style, but they are fun to read. Just don't expect a serious novel.

Funny and twisty tale of murder and lies. Rich airhead and a blue collar ex-cop try to figure out who's scamming who. Well done!

Kick back and enjoy the adventures of Richard and Tiffany as they solve cases and encounter quirky characters. Each book stands alone, but start at the beginning. If you have read any of the earlier stories in this series, you know what to expect here and this novel does not disappoint. There are interesting characters and laugh-out-loud moments as Richard works his way to the solution. And Tiffany... Well she's still Tiffany, the faithful clueless assistant without whom we, the reading public, simply cannot do.

Easy to keep going. Fun characters. No violence, swearing, or sex needed. I'll be looking for the next in series.

This is .my third Sherlock bok and I look forward to the fourth. I like his relationship with his daughters and his pseudo daughter\assistant Tiffany. The stories are unusual humorous and I find myself staying up late until he solves the crime at the end.

Craziness..mayhem...warped humor....This author never disappoints. This may be my favorite case so far. Nothing is as it seems when a grieving widow decides to file a claim for PTGD...post traumatic grief disorder. She just can't function after the loss of her husband. Is it a scam or the truth? Only Sherlock and Tiffany can possibly solve this one!

Sherlock is on the trail of an insurance case. He must make Tiffany look good and save the insurance company money. As always this doesn’t come easy.
