Claudia Burke has been framed for the murder of her mother and forced into signing a false confession. Her lawyer, Jennifer Whelan, is in an uphill battle to save Claudia from the gas chamber. Evidence disappears, a key witness runs off, and neither Jennifer’s love interest, Detective Evan McPherson or her father, high priced attorney Tom Whelan, are able to share what helpful information they have. A mysterious person sends Jennifer photocopies of documents with vital information proving Claudia’s innocence, but they are not admissible in court. Meanwhile, county prosecutor Rudy Acres calls in favors to push Claudia’s date with the gas chamber forward. Why is he so eager to see her die? Why has he hired a new assistant, Monica Shimas, who has gained the nickname “The Ice Queen,” and placed her in charge of prosecuting Claudia? Can Jennifer find the evidence she needs to save Claudia’s life before the cyanide pellets fall? Or will an innocent young woman die for a crime she did not commit?

I could not put this one down. I was drawn into the story from page one. An innocent girl, Claudia, is framed for the murder of her own mother and becomes a pawn in a dirty game of corruption. Claudias lawyer Jennifer and Jennifers boyfriend the good detective Evan, battle to save Claudia from the gas chamber. County prosecutor Rudy Acres and evil detective Hastings plant evidence to make Claudia look guilty. Unfortunately the evil game is played on Rudy's terms. Claudia waits on death row and for her date with the gas chamber. Meanwhile, the real killer, Tiffany Bradshaw is enjoying the limelight as she plans to marry Claudias stepfather, state senator Jim Cromley and become the wife of the next governor. To sum it up, Claudia is sentenced to die for the greed of others.

While the author's writing style is certainly below average (the prose just didn't really flow all that well, it was simplistic and needlessly lengthy - a good 30% to 40% could've been cut without really losing anything at all), the emotional core of the story is right where it belongs. I rarely feel much while reading books, but "Sentence of Death" left me feeling a good variety of emotions, most of which I believe were intentional. And while it's rather obvious that the author has certain fetishes that he likes to indulge (the executions portrayed in the book were very sexualized, and I don't think there's a female character in there whose feet weren't described), ultimately he does have a good story to deliver. I just wish that it was delivered a lot better.

Very well written book. I ended up really feeling for the main character and could wait to see what happened to her. I had to skip to the end to find out what happened to her by the time I read 1/3 of the book. Then had to go back and read the rest. I loved that the book shows what can happen when you have corruption in the legal system and the consequences. But also shows the struggles if those trying to do the right things against that corruption. There was not much I did not like about this book other than a few grammatical and spelling errors. I would definitely recommend this book

I found this book to be fast paced. It got my interest right in the beginning and kept it! There are surprises, unexpected things happen. I usually don't read this type of book so I was surprised at how it kept me interested. Well written, good characters. Gary N McCloud is a talented writer and I believe we will see a lot more from him.

I thought that it was a good story and the characters were chosen carefully. I did however notice many editing errors. Be more careful next time Mr.Cloud. I would recommend this book. Thanks.

I thought the book was outstanding. The plot was clear and held my interest ... It was a book that I couldn't wait to get back to. I found myself empathizing with some characters while wanting to shoot others. Great Job Gary!!!

This book was very poorly written with some bad grammar (and that wasn't the grammar in quotes, but in the writing of the author), undeveloped characters and just such repetitive and unnecessarily long descriptions and details that were neither necessary nor contributing to the story. For example: Did we really need to hear what the court bailiff said? Did prior conversations need to be repeated in the character's minds again? I could skip whole paragraphs because of this. The book may have had merit had it eliminated all this extra verbiage. I especially did not like the fact that people seemed to be rude and crude to one another. One character at first came off as very sexist, and then ended up in a relationship with the person he had been sexists to even though she seemed to have been insulted by him on their first encounter. Not a good read, and in fact, I tried several times to continue reading, but just could not bring myself to finish the book. It is too bad some of the options for the description choices when writing a review do not fit. My choice for mood is none of the above.

A great story, it draws you into Claudia’s plight well, and keeps the reader involved. Recommended.
