Death Twitches: A Lake People Novel Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 202 ratings

Meli has a few problems. She’s a telepath who reluctantly works for a psychopath. Then her day becomes really bad when she “hears” that her neck might be on the chopping block. Her neck is at risk, as are her family’s necks. It’s further compounded when another person speaks with her telepathically, which has never happened before. Rousseau, a young man from a remote Louisianan town where many of the occupants have extrasensory gifts, has tuned into Meli’s fear and hurries to help her. Provoked into running, Meli becomes allies with Rousseau and ultimately realizes they are connected in a special way. However, the man Meli works for is a bona fide monster with secrets of his own, and he doesn’t want to lose his “pet” psychic. He will do anything to get her back while Meli and Rousseau will do anything to escape.

A full-length novel of about 109,000 words.

Melisandre is in trouble. She is "owned" by a Dallas mobster who uses her talent to discover who is betraying him. He keeps her on leash by leveraging her brother's and mother's well-being against her trying to escape. Ru of the town of Unknown, Louisiana mentally "finds" Meli and rushes to help her. And it is another fast-paced escape-from-the-bad-guy novel at which author C.L. Bevill excels. Excellent character development, excellent settings and plot all the way through. Hopefully there are more in this series in the future. BTW, each book in this series can be stand alone. However, I believe they are more enjoyable starting from the beginning with "Veiled Eyes."

I'm a fan of C.L. Bevill's books. There are several series: Bubba, The Lake People, The Moon Trilogy, The Cat Clan, The Dreams and several standalone books. Death Twitches (the authors 30th published novel!) is the most recent installment in The Lake People of Unknown, Louisiana. This was a very interesting and exciting read. The main character, Melisandre (Meli) is a new character in the series. She's a very brave girl who had been raised in very bad circumstance. She is now at 17 trying to support her little brother and no good drug addict mother. You should read this book!

I have read every book by C.L. Bevill (Discovered her Bubba series and haven't looked back). This book kept me hooked the entire time! Great characters, and a very interesting plot. You know when an author has done their job when you can see the characters fully in your minds eye, so clearly that you would know them if you saw them in the Piggly Wiggly. And you know when you just don't want to put a book down? I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end. Great read!

As with all the lake people stories it was brilliantly written. I wouldn't say it was a romance as much as a mystery/thriller. There are appearances of characters from previous books. I always enjoy how Ms. Bevill manages to meld creepy and intriguing so well. The book is also largely free from curse words which is interesting in the fact you don't really notice until the end. There are a few times when it seems a bit repetitive, yet it is not without reason. I look forward to more in the series.

Honestly, the description doesn't do this book justice. I'm a long-time fan of Ms. Bevill, and thoroughly enjoy her Lake People novels. This book once again took us out of Unknown, Louisiana and brought us all over Louisiana. You don't have to read the other books to enjoy this one, but I would strongly recommend it - both because they're awesome, and because you'll have a better understanding of who the people are and what's going on. I really wish that she would write more Lake People novels!

Great story. Got a little confused with the bouncing around in time, but still loved it. Can't wait for more.

Caren L Bevill is one of the best Indie authors around and although this is not quite her best book it is far from being her worst and is certainly worth reading. Here, in her 30th book, the stories of the Lake People keep on getting more details and characters. The tone is as light can be with a criminal story. There is humour and action, car chases and escapes. There is Girl Power, no Disney princesses here. :)
It does stand on its own, you don't need to read the earlier books in the series.
