Sandra Duran Wilson is a fourth-generation artist. Her Mother's relatives were artists and come from Mexico, Spain, and Italy. Sandra's early years were spent on the border of Mexico where the people, animals, landscape, drama of the religious rituals, and stories of the curanderas shaped her reality.

Sandra's father and his relatives were physicians and scientists and they nurtured her love of science. Making her paints and paper from materials found in Nature is a direct result of this passion. She has degrees in both Fine Art and Science. "I have always loved to mix things up and this has nurtured my art explorations".

This combination of art and experimentation led to the creation of the first art technique book, Image Transfer Workshop. Surface Treatment Workshop, Mixed Media Revolution and Alternative Art Surfaces followed. Her fifth book, Acrylic Painting for Acrylic Effects has been widely embraced by both acrylic and encaustic painters. Her sixth book is due out in October 2018. She paints and lives in Santa Fe, NM and her art is in international public, corporate and private collections. She teaches workshops in the US and internationally.

Fantastic book with very helpful information, which I haven't ever seen in other books. The author is an artist whose style I love, so the images are all very nice too.

I wanted an encaustic affect on my collages, but didn't want to deal with the mess of encaustic. This book has been so helpful in creating this effect without the mess. The book offers many ideas and techniques.

I love this book! I use it all of the time and love the techniques that Sandra has given instructions for. I happen to enjoy mixed media and seeing what can be put together using different "ingredients" like Venetian plaster, molding pastes, crackles or other types of medium. The faux encaustic "recipe" is really effective and give a lovely surface which looks much like wax.

I believe this book would be great in print. I will probably buy it that way. I got a "good deal" on the kindle version but returned it as it is too hard to "get" what author is teaching when the words are on one screen and one has to scroll back to find her illustrations. In teaching this kind of technique, at least for me, I need the illustrations next to the text or in close proximity.

Excellent reference and text book. Photography is awesome! Projects are clearly written, step by step, and great photos showing the process.
Would recommend this book to any mixed media, or to "wanna be's". Have old paints on the shelf? These can be great sample boards.

Encaustic method is a complicated process; chemicals, fumes and heat create beauty. This book gives Good step my step methods to closely replicated encaustic technique without expensive equipment and materials. I found the guide stimulating and freeing for my heart, hands and expressional goals. Loved it. Learned and felt freer with this guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of 45 Wax free Techniques
Reviewed in Canada on July 18, 2016
I really like being able to use acrylics in a different way, having my end results look like Encaustic. My small studio does not have room for a heating griddle and is not ventilated sufficient for fumes from wax and encaustic Colors. This is a great way to get the "look" with the problems. Lots of examples of methods, use of existing materials and great use of embedded materials.
