Hell, Heaven and Back Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 7 ratings

A burnt out pastor thinks he’s living hell until he actually goes there.

Pastor Micah had no idea what kind of powder keg he was stepping into with his new church assignment. Half the Gulf Coast congregation hates him, the chairman of the board is out to get him, a church split is in the works, his youngest daughter suffers from an autoimmune disease, his marriage in turmoil, and years of 60 hour work weeks without a vacation are taking their toll. And that’s only the beginning.

In seminary a professor had joked, “ministry is hard; then you die,” but it was no joke to Micah—the stress is killing him and death seems a reasonable option for escape. Maybe imminent hurricane Charlie will do that for him; he doesn’t care.

That is until a mysterious old woman shows up to take him on a series of interdimensional journeys—around the world, to heaven, to hell and far beyond what he’d ever imagined. Just as things come crashing down around Micah, and he’s questioning everything he believes in and pondering leaving it all behind, his eyes are opened to a few astounding realities.

Does God cause the chaos?
If He’s truly Sovereign then isn’t He responsible for the mess the world is in?
How can such a god be loving?
How can He be trusted?

A work of supernatural, spiritual and speculative fiction based on actual events.

Hell, Heaven and Back was very well written and very relatable if like myself, you have ever been part of a large organization and have to deal with politics. It had an interesting sci-fi/ spiritual component. I would highly recommend this book.

This novel is an excellent detailed description of the frustration and anxiety of a small church pastor. Where budgets are tight and the congregation does not always tithe as money from month to month is uncertain to meet bills and payroll. There is always some conflict between the older members and needs of younger members to enhance church growth. The basic question becomes, when is Pastor Micah going to be fired? When is Micah going to resign? This uncertain invariably impacts the tension of family life and marriage tranquility. During this short time period of ministry,
Pastor Micah is visited by invisible spirit called "Paris" three times. Paris is not like Harvey (invisible rabbit) or Santa Clause on the "miracle on 52nd street" but the Holy Spirit that provides visibility and insight what Heaven and Hell is. This novel is also filled with spiritual insight and principals of Christian life. .

I found this book fascinating. If you've ever been in any work situation where everyone seems to hate you and your job is to bring folks together you know how the main character, Micah, feels. I've been there. Imagine in the midst of this getting a visit from a crazy lady who may not be crazy after all. But if she's not nuts then you are. This book will make you think about your theology, probably about as much as The Shack did.

I was reading this book at work when my boss walked up on me. He asked about the book and I told him about it he asked to read it so I ordered him a copy and another CO worker asked to order one as well. I thought this book was very good and so did they! Keep up the good work!

Zschomler offers readers a tender yet honest look into the life of a pastor in a small church filled with financial stresses, scandal, and various kinds of challenges. 6 of 10 people who attend church in USA attend a church of under 100 people. Such small churches have plenty of beautiful gifts to offer, and are the "norm" of American Christianity, but can also overly work their pastors with unrealistic expectations that their 60-80 per week full-time minister (who often is not paid full-time), will solve their problems, perform miracles, be everything to everyone, and get everything right all the time. Hell Heaven and Back takes this all into consideration with grace and gentleness.

Gregory Zschomler's Hell, Heaven and Back explores the hidden struggles of Pastor Micah Rickmond. Trapped between his desire to control his life's manifestations and his need to trust in God's divine guidance, Pastor Micah experiences a trial of faith.
This novel provides the lay person with thoughtful insight to the human-ness of our religious leaders. Additional value can be derived by answering the thought provoking questions which follow the author notes at the end. Excellent consideration for lay church groups.
