Drop the Rock--The Ripple Effect: Using Step 10 to Work Steps 6 and 7 Every Day Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 2,700 ratings

Drop the Rock—The Ripple Effect provides multiple perspectives from people successfully working a Twelve Step Program, showing Step 10 as a key to a sober life free of fear and resentment and filled with serenity and gratitude.

When
Drop the Rock: Removing Character Defects was first published in 1999, it quickly became the standard resource for working Steps 6 and 7, two of the most challenging of the Twelve Steps for many people in recovery. Learning what it means to fully surrender character defects frees you to make amends with Steps 8 and 9, realize the Big Book’s “Promises,” and move on to Step 10.

In this new follow-up resource, Fred H. explores what he calls “the ripple effect” that can be created by using Step 10 to practice Steps 6 and 7 every day and avoid picking up “the rock” again. Drawing on his years of lecturing on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, he reveals Step 10 as the natural culmination of working the previous Steps.

Drop the Rock

Change from the Inside Out with Progress Over Perfection

As you dive deeper into your recovery journey, the way you approach Twelve Steps or Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous naturally shifts. You move from learning how to work the program to learning how to make it part of your life—one day at a time.

During this stage, you may realize that the act of stopping your substance use isn’t the hardest part of recovery. The most tedious—often overwhelming—act is facing everyday challenges, unexpected changes and all your character defects. In other words, living life on life’s terms. And you’re trying to do all of this while showing up for other people, attempting to create a positive ripple in their lives.

Drop the Rock—The Ripple Effect: Using Step 10 to Work Steps 6 and 7 Every Day is written for anyone on a recovery journey. Author Fred H. offers guidance, tips, insights and practical exercises through a variety of stories by people who have successfully used Step Ten as a compass for navigating Steps 6 and 7. The ripple effect? Living a life free of fear and resentment, and filled with serenity and gratitude.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“This sequel to the original Drop the Rock is an important book because it extends the discussion of emotional sobriety in a very important way—it encourages us to be aware of ourselves and others—how all our behavior, positive or negative, creates a ripple effect. We cannot have emotional sobriety without an awareness of this fact. When we were in our active addiction we were unwilling to face this truth. If you are going to grow yourself in recovery this becomes an essential element.”

It came wrapped in plastic, so it was in great condition! Also, it came earlier than the expected delivery date, which was a wonderful surprise. Can't wait to read it. Thank you for being so efficient!

Great book for steps 6 & 7 in AA and Al-anon!

It is designed for people in AA, but I think everyone should drop the rock, for their own mental well-being. I found this book to be well written, in "plain" language. It kept my interest from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down! I recommend this book especially for new comers to AA, doing the Steps for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful book .... voices and wisdom of recovery that come from a kind place.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 26, 2017
I am getting so much from this book ... I'm currently on step 9 , working my way through my step 8 list .. but I bought this book because drop the rock (the first book) was so helpful for step 7. The two books are a synthesis of wonderful old timer recovery wisdom form various sources . Both books are alcoholic and also addict friendly and in fact would be a useful addition no matter what particular branch of 12 step recovery you are on. These are slim paper backs , but even so contain so much uselful wisdon. I owe my life to 12 step recovery and this book rings true with the wonderful growth I've experienced so far.
