“A fresh, exciting voice who knows how to stir a reader’s blood.”–Romantic Times BOOKClub

From USA Today bestselling author Glynnis Campbell...The chef to Queen Mary cooks up fiery romance with a spirited Scottish minstrel at the most controversial banquet in Tudor history.

A woman with a taste for adventure...a man who knows how to satisfy her hunger.
The chef to Queen Mary cooks up fiery romance with a spirited Scottish minstrel at the most controversial banquet in Tudor history.

Tristan MacKenzie, a brilliant chef in the royal household, plans to impress Queen Mary at the baptism feast for her infant son, until an intrepid minstrel, Mery Graham, arrives to stir the pot. A woman's place is definitely not in the kitchen, but daring Mery isn't intimidated by the handsome chef who's whetted her appetite for romance. Mery's impetuousness becomes a recipe for disaster as she begins to fall in love and out of wanderlust. And when insatiable curiosity lands her in the middle of a plot to assassinate the prince, Tristan must risk his life and his future–leaping from the frying pan into the fire–to save the sassy lass who has stolen his heart.

Great reading. Nice to read novels about the common folk.

This is the story of a young up and rising cook and a young woman traveling with a Minstrel group hired to sing for Queen Mary at the Grand Celebration of the Baptism of the newborn baby Prince. Tristan MacKenzie never thought he would find someone like Mery Graham. She was beautiful and talented and could have her pick of men. When she picked him he assumed she only was interested in bedding him and moving on. Mery wasn't that kind of girl though. She was tired of the vagabond lifestyle and when she saw him for the first time she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with this handsome talented well respected man. Her heart almost best out of her chest when he was near and she chased him till she caught him.
After the performance by the troupe every one left the banquet hall and Meri was thirsty and drank from the little gold cup left on the table. Little did she know it was the Prince's cup and was poisoned by a spy wanting to stop Queen Mary's son from becoming the next King of England. Meri would have died without Tristan's quick recognition of the poison and his knowledge of what would purge her of it. She lay close to death when he realized he was in love with her.
This is a sweet love story of two innocent young people who living their lonely lives met and fell in love. It also ends bringing together the characters from the previous two books in this series living out their lives together. I love seeing the connections come together and really enjoyed all three books.

Loved this medieval romance between Tristan, the royal cook for Queen Mary, and Mery, a songstress singing for the royal infant's baptism. Rich details bring the castle to life, and the steamy scenes between the lovers are as satisfying as the sumptuous dishes prepared for the royal court!

I find this third book a bit awkward sometimes Tristan doesn't realize Mery is a virgin even after making love for the first time? She has a lively personality, but it upsets the way she chases Tristan without any prejudice asking him in front of everyone and on more than one occasion to marry her. Besides how can a lady eat as much as she does. They make love in one of the kitchen tables in the palace where the sumptuous dinners are prepared for the queen and her guests, that was gross and she keeps dipping her fingers in the food and desserts. What about the cleanliness a kitchen is supposed to have? I know that was middle ages, but they say they are so concerned about the many and exotic dishes they have to prepare and are so worried everything turns out ok that is disgusting, and why so much time wasted detailing the nasty menus, peacocks, pigeons, sparrows. Ughhh
Then we had the never ending mating after their handfasting all mixed with flavors and food, and delicacies that I found not at all attractive and more of the same, food, food, food. This part took ages and I skipped most of it. I wouldn't have finished the book if it weren’t because I read in a review that at the end of the book the three couples of the series met together, but, although it ended well it wasn't just a great finale!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Series Of Books
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 18, 2019
The last of the "Lasses" and I enjoyed this just as much as the first two books in this series. Throughout these stories the hero have been a hunter, a golf player and a cook. The heroines have been a goldsmith, a tavern wench and a singer. Ms Campbell makes these unlikely stars into wonderful characters who are funny and real. The stories are easy to read, original amusing and entertaining. Thoroughly recommended..
