★★★★★ Amazon reviewers are saying...

"couldn't imagine how there could be a vegan vampire...Cate nailed it!!"
"This book was recommended to me, and I am so glad (insert happy dance here) that I read it!"
"a total surprise and a definite hoot"
"I simply can't get enough of Mallory. She hits life like a toddler learning to walk: You know - that controlled forward fall that makes you cringe? I'd love to party with her - but NOT at my house. Let's do it somewhere I'm not responsible for the inevitable destruction."
"Kitschy read. Just bought the second book. Must go now."
"witty humor, fast pace and quick back and forth dialogue. I thought it was a brilliant divergence from the usual horror and gore of vampire stories. I laughed out loud many times while reading it."
"I know fun and vampires seem at odds, but I love the saucy main character, the whole premise is great fun, and the many unexpected twists are thoroughly enjoyable."
"Reading slump killer... If you're in a slump. or want something funny with fang I recommend this to you!"
"a fun and adorable book with memorable characters that end up feeling more like your friends"
"Campy, cute - just what I needed! Please read this one - you won't be disappointed!"
"This was a fun, witty, smartly written book. The characters are well developed and the main character, i just giggle at her thought process. I genuinely look forward to where these characters go in future stories and that has become a rare thing for me."
"I'm hooked on this witty, quirky world she's created."
"Absolutely hilarious...It's ridiculous, and fun, with a side of serious."

I enjoyed the comedic notes of this book as well as the whole story in general. It was clean, though it did mention some stuff so I wouldn’t recommend it for teens necessarily. All in all, it was a clean read. That’s always nice to find. I loved the storyline. Such a neat idea a vegan vampire. Not due to being a health nut or because she disagrees with people eating meat just that she has an aversion. Just a nice comfortable paranormal mystery. With hints of potential romance though not the main theme. I do hope the rest of the books in the series are clean.

This wasn't the worst book I've read, nor is it anywhere near the bottom of the list. It seems that most YA novels these days have the protagonist spend pages and pages of text whining that they don't know what will happen if they do this thing or that thing. That's life; try something and see how it goes, then you can assess the outcome and retry if the opportunity presents itself. Anyway, this book doesn't have any of that. I like that instead of such "analysis paralysis," the protagonist shows how to evaluate the available evidence, discard unlikely options, and go with her best guess - learning as her experience grows.

This also wasn't the absolute best book I've ever read, nor is it contending for that spot, but it was definitely good. There's some mystery, some action, some sleuthing, some tough conversations, some character growth, etc. My biggest pet peeve is how some characters get asked direct questions yet their reply amounts to, "that's all I'm telling you for now," without good reasoning. That's just bad communication, though I guess people do that in real life so perhaps is a fantasy of me to wish it wouldn't happen.

Ultimately, I'd say this was a pretty good book - worth the read if you have time.

OPINION OF BOOK: ADVENTURES OF A VEGAN VAMP is a brilliantly told twist on an old story. Mallory starts out as an unhappy person, who doesn’t have any friends, doesn’t really like her job or her co-workers. This book made me laugh and kept me engaged. There is nothing that is super gross, so it falls under the cozy category. The story is well written, and the storyline executed brilliantly. The characters are life-like and original.

DO I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK: Absolutely

SPOILER SECTION (WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT): Mallory is meeting with co-workers that she doesn’t get along with for drinks after work. After her two drinks and some verbal barbs thrown around, Mallory leaves. Days later, she feels like she’s dying, has a thirst she can’t quench and has lost an alarming amount of weight. She is informed by a doctor who has only seen this type of thing once before, and that patient died, that she is a vampire. There is a bodyguard in the room with Mallory and the doctor when the doctor drops a vial of blood on the floor. When Mallory reacts by retching, the bodyguard leaves without a word. The doctor gives her a business card, wishes her luck and rushes her out of the office. Mallory stumbles upon one thing that slacks her thirst and helps fill out her form to something closer to its previous state. Mallory calls the number on the card and meets Alex, who introduces himself as a thief, assassin, wizard. Alex takes her in to the main offices to meet Wembley another vampire who is a 60’s hippy type and Lemann who is the administrator type. Mallory talks Lemann into letting her and Alex try to find the vampire who turned her. This same vampire has attacked other women, including one of Mallory’s former co-workers and an elderly neighbor who saw him with Mallory. Some of the women never lived past the transformation, Mallory is the exception and an oddity. She is told vampires can’t cry or see ghosts, but she has cried and seen ghostly things. Wembley introduces Mallory to a sword named Tangwystl, who only Mallory can hear talk. Tangwystl guides Mallory through a deadly confrontation with the vamp that made her. Mallory gets paid for the job and hears about another woman like her. She decides this is the new direction her life will take. Becoming a vampire was the best thing that’s happened to her, she never realized how unhappy she was as a human.

I got this book from a stuff your kindle date so literally had no idea what it was about going into it just had a funny cute name so thought sure why not! I’ve been hearing about books that are “cozy mysteries” and thought what the hell is that?!? THIS IS 1,000% A COZY MYSTERY. this book was super cute and very funny! Very quick read too! Finished it within a few hours. Narration was well done as well but for some reason the book and narration are a bit different? Using different words and phrases here and there.

After going out for drinks with the rest of her office, Mallory wakes up in her apartment the next morning with no idea of how she got home, and soon realized that something was very wrong with her. She couldn't seem to get enough to drink, discovered that she'd slept through several days, and that solid food suddenly made her violently ill. Something was very wrong. And she soon learns that something is the fact that she has become a vampire… with an aversion to blood.

This was a fun little cozy mystery. The main character was forced to rapidly learn how to survive as a vampire who must find a way to survive even though she can't seem to drink blood. She also needs to learn everything she needs to know to survive as a vampire quickly, or else starve to death. Add to that a need to find out how she became a vampire in the first place and who was responsible for seemingly trying to kill her and why, and she has quite a task in front of her.

I enjoyed this one. It was lighthearted and fun. I think anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries, lighthearted vampire stories, or is just looking for something fun to read would enjoy this book.

2.5*
The mystery is not really a mistery, the characters are not well rounded (I wasn't able to guess what kind of job Mallory had or what were/are her likes and dislikes) and the worldbuilding is not well defined.
The heroine accepts her new condition a bit too easily, everything supernatural happens and is presented as a matter of fact, even if it is supposed to be a secret for "normal" people.

I strained a bit with the language (I don't know if it's typical of Texas, but being European I missed something here and there).

Otherwise is a light read and has potential to be a funny series.
