Making Waves: A Beach Lane Novel Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 196 ratings

A self-made woman with a sweet, successful life discovers that even the best-laid plans are no match for unexpected passion in this brand-new series from award-winning author Laura Moore.

As the responsible daughter of an irresponsible socialite, Dakota Hale has plenty of practice catering to the whims of the rich and spoiled—and she’s turned that experience into a thriving concierge business serving the needs of the Hamptons’ wealthy elite. But anytime the drama on land gets too outrageous, Dakota finds calm surfing the Atlantic waves. But when sexy mogul Max Carr hires her, it rocks her balance in a big way.

Max works hard, but he’s never had to put any effort into winning over a woman—until now. With her stunning beauty and keen intelligence, Dakota is worth the effort. But it’s plain she has no interest in a casual fling, and that’s all Max, with his grief-stricken heart, can offer. But one fraught night changes everything, with consequences neither Dakota nor Max anticipated. Now they must navigate the rough waters of society gossip and devastating secrets that threaten their fragile relationship. If they can trust in the strength of their growing feelings, they’ll find that the dreams they’ve been chasing are close enough to embrace . . . together.

It seems like I've waited forever for another book by Laura Moore, one of my favorite authors. I have just finished reading Making Waves and I want to start reading it all over again. This poignant novel about two intensely independent yet beautifully vulnerable individuals is gloriously scripted and free flowing. I could not put it down.

I LOVE Max Carr and Dakota Hale for their brilliant spirits and minds that mesh like the finest silken tapestry. Max is a highly successful Venture Capitalist and professionally at the top of his game. Personally, though, he is emotionally troubled with family issues that are taking its toll. He has always skirted around relationships, never wanting to commit, until he meets Dakota, owner of a Concierge Service, hoping to add him to her roster of clients. Unlike any woman he has ever known, she moves him in ways he thought impossible.

The development of these characters is satisfying beyond words. Although there is sadness, the joy and passion contained within far outweigh that emotion. This is a book to be treasured and I hope many others will find it equally uplifting. Kudos ~ Bravo ~

Such a great read!!!I selected this book because one of my absolute favorite author's Kristan Higgins recommended this author and book and I'm going to say that I really enjoyed every page. If your a Kristan Higgins fan you will be a huge fan of this author and read as well. Great storyline of a very rich and unhealthy family and the main character Dakota is the shining diamond in the pile of Hale rocks. You will love Dakota and only want the very best for her and you will watch her get it and it will make your heart soar.Dakota is a great character with a full heart and her friends are amazing and she so deserves those friends with the mother and family she unfortunately was dealt. Just a great romantic family saga fictional read that will keep you hooked in and cheering her on. It's funny, emotional, sweet and sour at times especially with Piper and her sister , but it is also sexy with the steamy, it has it all , it's a really good read. Thank you Kristan Higgins for the recommendation and well done Laura Moore ,This is my first book of yours for me but it will certainly not be my last.

I always enjoy a Laura Moore book and Making Waves is no exception. Moore drops her two lovers in the middle of some toxic family soup and stirs the pot wonderfully. As Jane Austen wrote--"Nobody, who has not been in the interior of a family, can say what the difficulties of any individual in that family may be." Dakota and Max have so much family pain to bear that when they take a chance on love, their risk is all the greater! Moore uses every detail to set up her plot and to surprise the reader and her characters along the way. She'll catch you and move you with her rendering of the small moments--as small as a single text or a single heartbeat--that reveal the making of all our happiness in life. "Making Waves" is a story of healing the brokenness of two wonderful characters in the best possible way by making a home and family together. It helps that there's a sharp-eyed look at how the upper half lives in the Hamptons.

The story was decent, but man, these people are oversexed, and don't believe in tender love. Pretty rough stuff. The woman was stronger than in most romantic novels (speaking for the very few I've read), but her love interest was pretty much a jerk that evolved a bit too quickly. Probably typical of this genre of book.

I loved the characters and the setting. The author has a way of using little details to paint the big picture. This is well done and the characters are more complex than the usual romance, boy does meet girl but then everything gets awfully complicated. There are some truly awful family members but some great friends to balance out. I look forward to more by this author.

I really enjoyed all the characters in this story and feel there are more stories to come. What is Lauran's story? I especially enjoyed the local of the Hamptons L.I N.Y. It was accurately portrayed and Dakota's business was so so true. (Snobs). I thought there was going to be surprises and there were. So well written. It was a pleasure to read and remember. It's for the keeper shelve.

Good character development, good background information, well written. I felt this was a well written romance. No stupid heroine, very good plot, and more than just 2 people falling into bed. Recommended.

This was my first book by Laura Moore based on a recommendation by Kristan Higgins. I really enjoyed this book, from the gorgeous location to the great character development. I fell in love with Dakota and Max. Their story touched my heart, made me cry, and gave me all the good feels. I will definitely look for more books by this author. I have a feeling this may be my next great series read!
