These are difficult times for so many of us, uncertainty and unease, constant companions. A good book can help us all to escape to a different world. As a writer, I'm fortunate that I can create new worlds or visit old ones. I hope you can join me as I sit here, at my home in Spain and do my best to do what I do best!

Mine is not a rags to riches story or one borne out of hardship, the need to write to pay bills, or the result of a college course. I write because I love it and I always strive to make my work as enjoyable as possible. Writing in several genres allows me to weave all sorts of different stories, from Westerns to thrillers to historical fiction. Readers can slip into another world and come out feeling breathless, excited, desperate for more. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't, but I try my best.

I'm blessed with a good imagination. I don't know where my stories come from and I can structure a novel because I read and, as Stephen King once said about the way he learned, I love movies. I see the novel I write as a movie played out in my head. The better I can do this, the better my book. There is no magic formula, no matter what you might read, and there is no easy route to success. It's just hard work and a determination not to give in. When I found my first publisher back in 2009 I thought my dreams had come true. My lifelong ambition to be a novelist. Well, I was wrong. My publisher was a crook and I got ripped off. I should have stuck it out for an agent, but I was impatient. I wrote my first novel at the age of sixteen, but despite many attempts, no one would publish me. The years were passing by far too quickly but when another publisher accepted my work 30 years after my first submission, I knew I was doing something right. But that elusive deal with one of the big boys, well, that's still to arrive and I continue to try and acquire a literary agent that will help me on my journey.

I've worked at a lot of jobs and now I'm a teacher. I love teaching, I truly do. The kids keep me young! Sometimes, they even buy my books. Or their parents do. Writing, however, will always be my passion.

I write stories which will appeal to those of you who like cracking good tales, with lots of mystery, thrills, suspense. Above all else, I write what I enjoy. I have a broad taste. It's reflected in what I create. But, whatever the genre, the main point is always the story!

Dip into my catalogue here on Amazon and try one for yourself.

Thank you for dropping by and happy reading.

Top reviews from the United States

In a world where war has destroyed all the rest of the world but for Europe (strangely there is never a mention of several other areas of the world, like Australia and South and Central America, even though it is clear the U.S. has been destroyed by nuclear war) and in which a "state" has taken charge of the lives of all people, limiting those left largely to children, and in which technology has created massive killing machines, there lives Simeon. He is bright, intelligent, thoughtful and calculating, it turns out. There is a power struggle taking place in his world though between some of the most influential people in his world. Then, all of a sudden, he becomes a part of the power struggle. I will not tell you more for to do so would make this a spoiler review. I start every review with a mind set that the book deserves five stars unless it persuades me otherwise. This one did not. It is cleverly written, has major twists and turns, is well written in form and well edited. It is in short a very enjoyable book that I would recommend to most but for young teens. Yes it is a crossover as well, but I believe young teens should not read it due to sex and violence.

A cross over novel that offers a vision of a future world in which all the adults have disappeared and the children who are left are all dominated by the hideous 'sandmen' of the title... Simeon, who is hyper intelligent, has a chip inserted in his brain like all the others, only his chip is faulty, allowing him to have something none of the other characters have - memories...and these allow him to understand what has happened to him and everyone else, and how things have ended up as they have... He remembers his parents and his grandparents, and it's this that gives him the will to hatch a plot to overcome the sandmen... It's a big ask, and his quest forms the basis of what is a fascinating story. I enjoyed it, and so did my son, and I'd recommend it.
