From the Author

I simply loved writing this novel. It is based on both Quaysides of Newcastle and Gateshead. As I was born and raised in that area, I kept seeing all the places mentioned in my mind's eye.

Though I now live in Kelso in the Scottish Borders, I was born and brought up on Tyneside; the setting for my last four novels. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie, as the saying goes.

Though I only began writing in 2001, many of my short stories and articles have been published in national magazines here in the UK. But then I felt the urge to move on and write something with a little more grit.

My first novel, The Trojan Project, is an all-action thriller. During the writing process, I felt I was on the ride of my life, as I added so many spine-chilling incidents. I was determined to grab the readers' attention from the very beginning and give them the roller-coaster read of their lives.

Since then, I turned to writing women's fiction. Divorcees.Biz, a novel of fun and romance, shortly followed by, Only Twelve Days, a heart-warming romance.

However, after deciding to turn my hand to writing a series of cozy murder mysteries, I chose my hometown as the setting. Murder on Tyneside - Agnes Lockwood Mysteries Book 1, was released in December 2016, with Agnes as the new sleuth on Tyneside. Death on Tyneside (Book 2) came next followed by Vengeance on Tyneside (Book 3). A Mystery on Tyneside (Book 4) was published in October 2020.

Hopefully, there will be a Book 5 in the series. How could I possibly let Agnes Lockwood down, when she has given me so much fun - she is part of me now.

Murder on the Tyneside, an Agnes Lockwood Mystery, was an outstanding murder mystery. Agnes goes back to the small town where she grew up on a small, nostalgic sightseeing trip. A little relaxation, a little trip down memory lane. But once she got settled in her hotel, an expensive necklace was stolen, leading to more theft and murder. Tight plot. Great characters. A roller coaster ride of excitement. Loved it.

I have to admit, the reason I decided to read this story is because my best friend grew up in this area. I am also a big fan of the series Vera, which also takes place in northeast England. Also, the fact the main character is a woman past her twenties is something else I appreciate. The plot could have moved quicker in some areas, but all in all, this is quite an enjoyable read and I am glad the author made this into a series.

A modern day Miss Marple. I liked this story, it was fun reading it. I liked the character Agnes because of her sticking her nose in everyone's bus.

Enjoyed this book. A good English mystery, without a bunch of violence. An inside look at starting over for a widow as well.

The story was slow to start. I kept putting it down because it seemed to move too slowly.
The plot was good with lots of misdirection.
Agnes is a smart, intelligent woman and I kept wondering how she was out-thinking the Police. I like her character and her bravery.
Interesting twists and turns. Well worth reading.

It was a very enjoyable murder mystery. With a little bit of love story mixed in. I would definitely recommend this book. Kept me very enthralled. Coming back for more until I finished. I think I read the whole thing in like three days. Very good read. Would definitely recommend.

I enjoy a good mystery where the heroine stumbles into someone's 'foolproof plan' -- this isn't that! You must suspend everything you'd believe about a sound, logical, mature woman of a certain age to enjoy this. This was no page turner, the police are ridiculous (asking a civilian for clues, theories and help engaging suspects).

The mystery was intriguing but getting to the bottom of it was hard as characters popped up as significant 70% of the way through. The author kept adding more crimes to solve thus muddying the waters. The characters were unlikable - couldn't root for any of them.

I won't continue this series as the main character is essentially a busy body with no real skills except being nosy. The only suspense was wondering when this mess would end. I wasn't shocked by how this ended, I just really didn't care.

Murder on Tyneside is a fun read for murder mystery enthusiasts, with the difference of a new locality – always challenging to find something new.
Agnes Lockwood is adrift in life, but finds a new anchor as a nosy, but clever, amateur sleuth, partnering with a long-lost friend who is now a senior inspector.
Agnes, our hero, is the kind of character who butts her nose into everything she should not, but somehow gets away with it. I wonder what it would really be like? But, since I am not to know, and really, none if any of us will likely ever find ourselves in this position, it is fun to dismiss reality for a little while and delve into escapist fiction.
If you like the traditional fare, a la Miss Marple, this is the book for you! I liked it especially, because, although not quite cozy, it doesn’t focus on gore and misery, as so many novels in this genre tend to do these days. If you like Vera, but long for a softer narrative, you will like this book.
Recommended to all armchair sleuths.

A good old fashioned who-on-earth dunnit set in a very recognisable Newcastle quayside area. Suspension of belief is required at the amount of input the charming sleuth is allowed to give the detective investigating first the missing jewellery, then the corpse which lands on the pavement at the end of their first date. But a good read with a satisfying if slightly improbable conclusion!

Agnes Lockwood's husband had died the year before, with her children living away, she decides to go back to her own place at Tyneside to see how things had changed. She books into a hotel. Its here she meets an old school friend who happens to be Chief Inspector Alan Johnson, who works for The Newcastle Police Force. They soon find themselves friends again. When jewelry starts getting stolen from the hotel, then two murderers happen, Agnes finds joy in helping, Alan, seeing she was with him from the time it happened. Trouble is, Agnes hasn't realised the danger she can get involved in. But action certainly seeks out Agnes in this thoroughly enjoyable read.
A recommended Read.
