4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 7,049 ratings

Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons - once creatures of legend - are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety.

Claudia's a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she's left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive - to somehow 'tame' a dragon and get it to obey her.

Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other...and he's not interested in obeying.

What he is interested in is a mate.

Steamy Dragon Shifter Romance

Steamy Dragon Shifter Romance
This is the first book that I've read by Ruby Dixon and I was not disappointed. I’ve heard of some of her other monster/alien themed books but could not pass up a story with a dragon shifter!! This book has captivating world-building with a dystopian vibe, steamy romance and strong characters. If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, sci-fi and fantasy worlds you will LOVE this dragon shifter series.

A rent in the sky has dropped dragons on to earth which has been decimated as a result. In South Dallas Claudia is locked up after selling contraband salvaged from outside the city and is sentenced to be given to the dragons after news is discovered of a woman who has tamed a dragon elsewhere. Kael is a humongous golden dragon who can transform in to a huge clawed male humanoid. He frees Claudia and claims her as his over time. But Claudia is worried about her sister and friend left behind. After being saved, Claudia's friend falls from Kael's back and is absconded by another randy golden dragon. Lots of spice and an excellent HEA! I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Sometime last summer I saw Ice Planet Barbarians on my Goodreads feed. I had dabbled in the romance/erotica/smutty genre many years ago but the few books I read didn’t really do anything for me so I just thought I wasn’t into it and moved on. Then I saw IPB on an old high school acquaintance’s Goodreads and I decided to give it another shot. I tore through IPB, the spin-off Ice Home, Corsairs, Corsair Brothers, and Risdaverse. That’s a lot of books featuring abducted human woman and sexy blue aliens and I loved them all. When I got through them all, I tried another monster romance by another author but didn't love it and went back to Ruby Dixon's catalog. There is a drakoni in the Ice Home series, so I was familiar with them before I started the Fireblood Dragon series. The drakoni are less appealing to me than the Messakah.

Fire in His Blood describes a post apocalyptic Earth, one where a rift was opened and dragons came through, went mad, and destroyed the world as we know it. As in all post apocalyptic stories, there are human survivors spread across the world in camps that are controlled by whatever militias pop up. In most zombie apocalypse stories, those militias are usually the type who are semi-secretly preparing for the government to declare martial law in the real world. You know the type. This one didn't specify where the militia came from, or if it did, I missed it. Anyway, this is the story of Claudia, a woman who scavenges to earn enough to keep herself, her sister, and her friend fed and sheltered. There are only two real options for women in this world, scavenging (which is against the law) and whoring. Claudia opts to lead a life of crime, which leads to her capture and incarceration by the militia. And eventual nonconsensual participation in an experiment involving women and dragons.

I've read some reviews and noted that many of the complaints are about Claudia and repetition, and those are valid complaints. There is a lot of repetition. And it's all coming from Claudia and her one track mind. Her entire existence since the dragons set the world on fire has been survival and protecting her sister. So when she's incarcerated and then forced into this experiment, the one thing she keeps thinking about is how her sister will survive without her. Most of the book is told from Claudia's perspective and a lot of it is her thinking about how she can get back to her sister and deal with her dragon at the same time. She could have gotten swept up in the romance and left her life behind, but stayed true to herself and figured out a way to come through for her sister, with the help of her dragon of course.

While I still find the drakoni less appealing than my beloved Messakah, I did enjoy this book and will be reading the rest of the series. There isn't a whole lot of spice, and the spice that is there is timid compared to IPB, but that's okay. That's one of the things I like about Dixon's books. There's spice, but the story is always good enough that I don't even mind if the spice level is low. I'm looking forward to more world building, meeting more drakoni, and possibly addressing the problem of the female dragons. All of Ruby Dixon's books that I've read so far feature human women and alien men, so I'm not sure if she will tackle the female dragons, but a girl can dream.

Standalone in series.

Dragon shifter MMC with communication issues that improves; FMC used by her government as a sacrifice to tame the dragon; Discussion of physical abuse of a side character and sex work for survival;

Some nice spicy scenes. Decent plot. I have issues with some of the plot/premise, just personal preference. Main characters were okay, both just irritated me for some reason. Not sure if I'll finish the series or reread this one I'm future.

The MMC is too bland and the FMCmopes around alot, but the story is good and it is set in the same timeline as all Dixon's other books. So in 2016, a rift opened and draconi came to Earth, so anyone stolen for IPB or the Corsair novels or in the Risdaverse are unaware that life on earth was irreversibly changed.

I am off to the next book.

Until Next Time,

This is the first book in a new series. It takes place 7 years after dragons entered our world through a rift in the sky, destroying everything in their path, killing billions of people. The survivors exist behind barriers erected around destroyed cities, scavenging for food and goods and just existing. Firearms have no effect against the rampaging dragons and the only way to survive is to hide when one comes. There is a police force, but it mainly exists to have some sort of order and the people in charge aren't above taking sex from women in exchange for food or money. Claudia is arrested for crimes commited for scavenging for her sister Amy and friend Sasha to feed them. The mayor decides to use her for bait as rumor has it another city tried it and it saved the city. Claudia gets put out for dragon bait and Kael is the dragon shifter who claims her. I've read plenty of dragon shifter romance books, but this kept my attention and left me wanting more. Claudia is Kael's whole world and she keeps the madness away. In Kael's case it is love at first sight, but Claudia needs the time to get to know Kael, get over her fear of his being a dragon and the author gives her that time. Too often in similar stories the main characters meet and immediately go straight to sex declaring their love for their soul mates which is utterly boring to me. In this book Kael has to win Claudia's trust and love which results in the reader getting to know both characters in depth. The differences in the way dragons think verses a human woman shows they come from different species and worlds. I gave this 5 stars because in addition to the hot romance, there is also additional twists to the plot making it more interesting. Looking forward to the next books which will feature Amy and Sasha and their dragon shifters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very hot, in every sense

This book really "checked all the boxes" if you know what I mean. It was a lot of fun to read, I had a hard time putting it down but to avoid blowing through it all at once, I did my best to savour every moment. I can't wait to read the next few books in the series and I'm a little sad there was no collection where I could purchase several of the books all at once. Especially since the first one was such a great investment and a great read. Despite that there is no collection, I fully intend to purchase as many as I can take.

I fully recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a bit of a thrill to their romance!

The idea of the story was really good but lamely executed. Boring and repetitive paragraphs which I skipped constantly- pity!!! No passion with shallow relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Claudia and Kael
Reviewed in Germany on December 28, 2019
Claudia lives in the postapokalyptik Fort Dallas. The Apokalypse came with the Dragons who were sucked by an unknown force from another planet to Earth. Since Claudia was scavenging to get something to eat, she was caught and sentenced to be dragon bait. Someone told her, there was a small chance to tame the dragon. But as the dragon came, it was a big golden one, named Kael, he only thought of Claudia as his mate and to protect her with everything he had .......
I enjoyed reading the romance. Kael did really everything to win Claudia over. Claudia was a long time ambivalent in her loyalties, so that a sometimes thought "not again", but of cause there is a HEA, so all is well. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next sequel.
