4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,423 ratings

In this epic Biblical narrative, ideal for fans of The Bible miniseries, a young woman taken into the prophet Isaiah's household rises to capture the heart of the future king.

Isaiah adopts Ishma, giving her a new name--Zibah, delight of the Lord--thereby ensuring her royal pedigree. Ishma came to the prophet's home, devastated after watching her family destroyed and living as a captive. But as the years pass, Zibah's lively spirit wins Prince Hezekiah's favor, a boy determined to rebuild the kingdom his father has nearly destroyed. But loving this man will awake in her all the fears and pain of her past and she must turn to the only One who can give life, calm her fears, and deliver a nation.

Review

ECPA bestseller

“Danger, dark schemes, and political intrigue wrestle against truth, valor, and determined obedience to Yahweh in this compelling tale of Hezekiah—the boy who would be king—and a beautiful but broken orphan girl taken in by Isaiah, the Lord’s prophet. While alternately angered and devastated by the faithlessness of Yahweh’s people in one chapter, in the next I was revitalized and filled with hope in the unfolding prophecies and mercy of our Sovereign God. Andrews has woven a love story, a beautifully written novel to savor, and a reminder that despite our fallen humanity, God’s best is yet to come.”
Cathy Gohlke, Christy Award–winning author of Until We Find Home

“Mesu Andrews brings the prophet Isaiah to life with her usual brilliance at weaving deep historical threads together with the story of a little-known woman of the Bible.
Isaiah’s Daughter is an excellent reminder that the truth of God’s words will be proven, even when His people cannot see through the veil of suffering to the ultimate victory.”
Connilyn Cossette, CBA best-selling author of the Out from Egypt series

“Epic drama, adventure, love, treachery—
Isaiah’s Daughter is all of that and more in this latest stellar novel by Mesu Andrews. The author brings to life Judah’s queen, the lovely Hephzibah, infusing each page with heart-stopping emotion and a pure romantic love for her friend and king, Hezekiah, that touched my soul. When I finished reading, I could only marvel at the novel’s depth and breadth and how Andrews portrayed this daughter of a prophet rising to the greatness of God’s promise, resilient in a time of disobedience. Keeping faith with Yahweh amid war and death and pestilence might be the only means to survive. A thoroughly catch-your-breath kind of experience in an impressive body of work, Isaiah’s Daughter is a story fans of biblical fiction will love!”
Kate Breslin, award-winning author of For Such a Time

Mesu grew up with a variegated Christian heritage. With grandparents from the Pilgrim Holiness, Nazarene, and Wesleyan Churches, her dad was a Quaker and mom charismatic. As you might imagine, God was a central figure in most family discussions, but theology was a battlefield and Scripture the weapon. As a rebellious teenager, Mesu rejected God and His Word, but discovered Jesus as a life-transforming Savior through the changed life of an old friend.

The desire for God's Word exploded with her new commitment, but devotional time was scarce due to the demands of a young wife and mother. So Mesu scoured the only two theology books available--children's Bible stories and her Bible. The stories she read to her daughters at night pointed her to the Bible passages she studied all day. She became an avid student of God's Word, searching historical and cultural settings as well as ancient texts and original languages.

Mesu and her husband Roy have raised those two daughters and now enjoy a tribe of grandkids, who get to hear those same Bible stories. Mesu's love for God's Word has never waned. She now writes biblical novels, rich with spiritual insight learned through fascinating discoveries in deep historical research.

Her first novel, Love Amid the Ashes (Revell)--the story of Job and the women who loved him--won the 2012 ECPA Book of the Year in the Debut Author Category. Her subsequent novels have released with high praise, shedding light on some of the shadowy women of Scripture. Love's Sacred Song (Revell, 2012) tells the story of the beloved shepherdess in King Solomon's Song of Solomon. Love in a Broken Vessel (Revell, 2013) tells the story of Hosea and Gomer and is the final stand-alone novel in the Treasures of His Love Series. Her fourth novel, In the Shadow of Jezebel (Revell, 2014) tells the fascinating story of Queen Athaliah and the courageous Princess Jehosheba.

The Treasures of the Nile series (Waterbrook/Multnomah, 2015-16) included The Pharaoh's Daughter and Miriam and spanned Moses' life from birth to the Exodus. Her 2017 release, Isaiah's Daughter (Waterbrook/Multnomah), begins the Prophets and Kings series and explores the life and ministry of the prophet Isaiah and the tumultuous days of Judah under kings Ahaz and Hezekiah. But its focus is on the woman Hephzibah--a fascinating character in Jewish legends. OF FIRE AND LIONS, Book #2 in Prophets and Kings (WaterBrook/Multnomah), released in 2019 and tells the familiar childhood stories of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the technicolor detail of grown-up research and awareness of Babylon's splendor. 2020 holds #3 in the P&K series and the conclusion to Hephzibah's story, ISAIAH'S LEGACY, when Andrews introduces King Manasseh to her readers and describes the most wicked king of Judah's stunning prodigal story. In 2022, readers will meet POTIPHAR'S WIFE, who pursued and falsely accused Joseph, one of Scripture's greatest heroes. Joseph will, however, save all of Egypt and realize God's greater plan, IN FEAST OR FAMINE, that releases in 2023.

Mesu and her husband live in the Appalachian Mountains. She loves Jesus, coffee, her dog, and time with her grandkids--not necessarily in that order.

Beautifully written and now in audiobook
I love this story so much! It is beautifully written! It is the story of how Hezekiah, whose destiny is to be king one day, meets a young girl named Zibah, and they become special friends. This story brings these two broken children together, and as their special relationship develops, thru their love, the Lord begins to heal their hearts, and puts them back together as only He can. I read this in 2 days, and it was hard to put down! Can't wait to get the audio book too!!!

Mesu Andrews has written a beautiful novel, that is Biblically based, to share with the world, the story of a king of long ago who faithfully worshipped Yahweh. King Hezekiah wasn’t a perfect king, as his human qualities often affected his decisions for Jerusalem. He strives to listen to Isaiah’s prophecies from God. But he second guessed the words from Isaiah, thinking they were simply opinions. This book is Biblically based, with some author’s freedom to guess at the details to make it interesting with romance, deceit & threats of war. Excellent read!!!

Love this book very much. Very good description of historical events with just the right touch of accurate characters in it

Mesu Andrews does not disappoint in this story of a young girl who finds herself transplanted into the home of the prophet Isaiah. With respectful interpretation of the prophecies mixed with a beautiful love story, I found myself taking every spare moment of the day to read this book.

I was appreciative of the pacing of this book, as there were happy and fulfilling moments evenly spaced throughout the book, instead of in the last few pages of the book, leaving you wanting for more.

This story is told mostly from two characters perspectives, and it was good to see the character development and spiritual growth of more than one character.

Prophecies of the Messiah are spread throughout and were thought provoking. At the end of the read, I was ready to reread parts of the Bible. The best Christian fiction books build that yearning to read the Bible more, and that's exactly what Isaiah's Daughter did.

I'm fascinated by how Ms. Andrews uses books from the Bible to weave credible stories. A lot of research must have gone into puzzling together the pieces from the different books. And I really enjoyed the first half of the book. Then, however, it went downhill and became super cheesy. It doesn't help that the characters are flat and that the romantic male lead (Hezekiel) acts and talks like a young girl. I couldn't get past 60% of the book.

"Isaiah's Daughter" is another gripping story from the pen of Mesu Andrews set during the days of Isaiah and the ancient Kings of Judah. Seen through the eyes of a young orphaned girl, Ishma, we follow her as she becomes a woman in politically troubled times when one misstep, one alliance gone wrong, or one misspoken word could mean a horrible death. She grows up loving young Hezi, who later becomes King Hezekiah, but when he ascends the throne, she despairs that he will return her affections fearing he will make a different politically advantageous alliance. Throughout all the ups and downs of her life, we ache as she aches, and hope we she hopes, but rejoice when she does. In "Isaiah's Daughter", Mesu Andrews crafts a tale to keep us reading. Filled with believable characters and plausible plots while remaining faithful to the Biblical record, this reader absolutely loved Isaiah's Daughter!

Love this book and Mesu’s writing. It stays so true to scripture and makes the lives of these people very relateable. They are memorialized in scripture but they lived very real lives with all the emotions and ups and downs as we do today. I love how this book always points to trusting and obeying God. So good!

Very well written. Made me mad, made me cry and made me smile. I almost didn't read past the first chapter but then glad I continues because the rest of the book was not as sad or maybe hard is a better word.

I enjoyed reading this historical and biblical fiction. Andrews did a good job of bringing the characters to life and explaining the times in which they lived.

This was one of my first books by this author and she has become one of my favourites. I loved her creative style of how she brought the bible to life. If you know your bible you will recognise what is bible and where she has skilfully interpreted the the times and era of what happened. The romance was so beautiful between Hezikiah and Hepzibah and tastefully done. The character of Isaiah the prophet who has is own book in the bible was brilliant and real and down to earth. He was human like anyone else and had failings and insecurities. Thank you for making that real. Thank you for bringing understanding to what happens behind the scene of the stories we read in the Bible. It is a unique and gifted way of bring understanding to The Bible, where others may just discard it as historical mumbo-jumbo.

I ENJOYED this book and the way the writer stayed as close to the Bible as possible. It was a shame that the next king did not follow his father's good example that life I suppose.
