Trish Butler is the author of the Historical Fiction saga, Redway Acres which is set in the east of England. Also, a contemporary detective series based in the fictional New Jersey town of Rockmond.

Born in Norwich, in the county of Norfolk, England, Trish moved to Connecticut in the US, in 1999. Her daughter was born there two years later, and is on the autism spectrum.

Redway Acres, which Trish calls Pride & Prejudice with horses and a healthy dollop of feminism, is set during the early 1800s in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, UK, an area that she knows well. Over the past more than twenty years, Trish has got to know the tri-state area well too, and hopefully enough American English terms that make her contemporary mystery book sound authentic.

Trish always wanted to write a book and at age fifty, finally realized that dream. There are now six main books and one companion in the Redway series, and so far, one book has been published of her Rockmond Mysteries.

Read her blog about her process, The Road to Redway; the Redway Acres saga; Rockmond Mysteries; excerpts, poetry and her characters, on her website.

Martha is definitely a woman ahead of her time! This is an enjoyable story. I have read the other two books in this series so I was familiar with most of the characters. While the whole focus of this book is not completely on Martha, it is fun hearing about things I’ve read in other books from another persons POV. The author definitely knows how to write stories about strong female characters. This is not a spoiler, but I had to google lace bobbins! 😳😳😳

I absolutely love this series! Martha is a wonderful example of women empowerment. I love how this book kept up with all the other storylines and you learn a little bit about all the characters. However, Trish Butler writes so creatively to keep the storyline coming back to the main character. Excited to start the next book in the series!

If you’re like me and couldn’t get enough of Redway Acres a couple of months ago, have no fear! Today is all about the third Redway Acres book, Martha.

As you likely guessed, this book is primarily told of Martha’s point of view. She’s not like her sisters… “big boned” as her mother calls it, with a beautiful but different look. Her family is in financial trouble and, although she is the middle sister, her father seems to view her as their way out; as long as Martha marries well, it will save them from losing their home. People aren’t always who they make themselves out to be in public, however, and Martha has dreams of her own. You’ll have to pick up the book yourself to read more about the bumpy road Martha finds herself heading down!

I have thoroughly been enjoying this series. I can relate to many of the women and am inspired by them, despite this being a work of fiction. Plus some of the romance scenes… phew!

My biggest comment that brought me to a four star rating was that while you’re seeing events from different points of view, this book still rehashes some events from previous books. I like to think about things from different perspectives but on some level, it feels like it’s being rehashed. That’s a big challenge though when you have a series with overlapping time frames and, for the most part, it keeps things moving.

I also felt like the “big reveals” of this book just didn’t quite climax as much as book 2 especially. That’s a slight disadvantage when I read a series… I can’t help but compare the books! Likely not something I would have picked up on had I not been reading these books in order… which I feel comfortable saying is doable. You could likely pick these books up at any part of the series and still have it make sense and fall in love with the characters!

As always I can say that Trish Butler has done it again. I love the way she can tell the exact same story three times over from different points of view and still have a great book!

The story just never seems to get old. I relished in the story the first time around, I was wowed the second and delighted in the third installment. While this book still gave passion it gave something extra too. Martha and Nathianal's friendship made this book. I'm not sure I even know why, but it just gave this reader a warm feeling in her heart. I also enjoyed that this story for the majority stuck to Martha being a proud independent woman and that Tommy didn't even show up on the radar until close to the end, while still managing to give them a proper love story ending.
As usual this book did not fail to surprise me. I have decided this story should be a soap opera and it'd be a damn good one. There is so many moments in this series where the dun dun dun music plays in my head, and I think to myself oh, no way. Trish Butler seemsto be a natural at a good plot twist.

I highly recommend giving this series a read for anyone interested in a period romance with a modern feel.

I loved the strong female characters in this entire series of books. The settings and historical context are well-researched and believable. Even when discussing domestic violence, the book shows the strength of these women. This book gives us clarity that women even in repressed English 1800's countryside settings were remarkably intelligent and strong. Trish Butler is much better and more inspiring for our girls than Jane Austen!

My favorite book of the series thus far. Martha is a young woman ahead of her time, trying to find her place in a world designed to keep women in places decided upon by men. She is both warm and strong, intelligent and goal-oriented, looking at the realities she is faced with and forging ahead within the confines of life in the 1800s. Martha invites us to examine our own lives’ choices, and risks taken, or not.

Book Three in the Redway Acres series, Martha, is a delightfully told story that unfolds at the perfect pace to reveal these beautifully crafted characters. The reader is invited to experience life in England during the early 1800’s. The forward thinking main character, Martha, is truly ahead of her time and causes her readers to explore their own dreams and goals. The many characters in the story are expertly weaved through each others' lives, many of the characters also appearing in Book One and Book Two. I didn’t want this book to end!

Wow - I could not put this book down! Its just brilliant the way the author has entwined certain parts of this book with the first 2 books, and yet I believe this can be read independently of the others. Great to read about how the female characters find such strength and manage shape their lives for the better despite the expectations of society at the time.
Don't take my word for it - buy it and see for yourselves. In fact treat yourself and buy all 3 in the Redway Acres Trilogy (Helena Book 1 & Maria Book 2).
    I can't wait for book 4!!!

Loved it! Was really looking forward to reading 'Martha' after enjoying the previous Redway Acres books and Ms Butler does not disappoint! These books are well researched and give us a real insight into the life and times of the era. Martha is a role model for her time and you find yourself rooting for her from the start because she is such a nice person. This is another page-turner filled with different characters (some new, some more familiar)whose stories all intertwine. Can't wait for Book 4!
