The Frey Saga Book IV: Venom and Steel Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 649 ratings

Three seasons of peace come with a price.

It's dark night in the kingdom of the fey when the castle is attacked, and Ruby has gone missing. If Frey can't decipher the clues, one of her Seven might pay with their life.

But winged gods and high fey tricksters are plotting to steal more than a Halfling. Frey's high guard is torn apart, her magic is too volatile, and in three moons the fates will dance.

If Frey can't regain her guard and get a grip on her powers, the fate of the lands will rest in fey hands—but to do so, she must place her trust in one of them.

Melissa is the author of more than a dozen YA and fantasy novels including The Frey Saga and BETWEEN INK AND SHADOWS. When not writing she can generally be found talking about a book, painting something from a book, or tucked between headphones listening to a book. It’s kind of a theme. She loves reasonable heroines in unreasonable situations, noble--if brooding--heroes, slow burn and sweet kisses, a lot of havoc, and a little magic. The Best Frey Yet!
5 Stars
The Best Frey Yet!
"I was just a broken girl now, like my mother, and hers before. This was how it started. Emptiness and despair. Everyone knew how it ended."From the beginning, Venom and Steel throws you back into a theater of elves verses fey, dark against light, & the humans caught in an age-old war. Picking up some time after "Rise of the Seven," we are quickly re-acquainted with the company of characters we fell in love with before. Only this time, the fey are the central threat, with changelings taking advantage of the chaos an old conflict brings about. Stakes are higher than ever and the battle of wits & magic is spectacular. While Ruby shines brightest in this latest installment, Frey finds herself powerless to stop events from unfolding. Veil, the leader of the fey court strikes a bargain with Frey that leaves the kingdoms reeling. As the company is split apart by outside forces, they must learn to overcome insurmountable odds. Old enemies must become new allies as dark and light join forces, and a new threat looms in the horizon that threatens to destroy them all.

Wonderful story that kept my mind engaged! These stories have filled my days so I could sleep at night! After the recent loss of my husband, this ongoing story has saved my sanity. So Blessed to have found you Melissa. Thank you for creating a world I could escape into. Excellent writing, on going action with twists and turns. Once you read the first, you will want the next, and the next! Bravo!

Frey Saga book #4. Lots of action and well written. 4 Stars as the plot seemed strained in places and some of the character actions seemed somewhat out of character. The author tried to set up the reasoning, but I was left wondering why some characters who had shown a rational or emotion driven motivation up to this point just seemed to be out of character.

Book IV was was pretty much nonstop action with all the main characters in harms way. The last chapters were almost a single unit that you want to rush through to discover their fate. A very good read. Well done Melissa.

Melissa does a wonderful job of thing in so many plots and people. Suspenseful and full of action, intrigue , power, battles and even a little romance. I give 5 stars to the whole series.

The characters and plot are still interesting but the plot ends up too convoluted to easily follow. The ideas are good but might benefit from editing.

This isn't my favorite fantasy series, Tolkien, McCafferty, fiest, D'engle, and Anthony were better, this'll do for relaxing read without much thinking.

If you like fantasy and magic this series is for you. The characters are interesting and of course all the impossible things they can do with their separate powers is fun and "magical". It seems like this last book could lead into another about Ruby and Grey. Hope so.

Not as great as the earlier trilogy but still a good read. The story continues with the Fey taking Ruby.
