About the author

My writing reflects my memories growing up along the North Carolina coast near Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches. I left that area when I graduated high school and traveled half-way around the world and back collecting memories and experiences which help shape my characters. Now back in eastern North Carolina, I enjoy bringing to life characters whose adventures take place in my favorite part of the world.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2014The 'Beach' I lived at and walked every night was San Diego ... Spent time on the Jersey Shore too. I have to tell you I really like the style this author brings to the page... This is the second Young Adult novel I've read from this Author and I am really enjoying a level of comfort ... He gets the 'Beach' vibe and conveys it masterfully through his characters, settings and as much should be appreciated as the real feel of living on or near 'The Beach'. Well done Mr. Davis... I look forward to more reads from you ... Its not often I can sit out on my dry-land deck and hear and smell the 'Beach' again... Buzby or East Mission Bay ... Thanks for putting me there... Cheers!
Reviewer: G Mitchell Baker, author of 'Soccer Tommies Baseball Mommies' (2014); 'Lethal Believers: DVM' (2012); 'The Involvement of Emerson' (2012); and 'Lethal Believers: The Innocents' (2011) has provided an honest review of 'The Boy from Buzby' after purchasing a copy.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2014This book is a good read for a young teen but not so much for an adult. I think I might have liked it better if there was a plot and the book was better edited. I came across head-hopping at least every two pages and there were other numerous editing mishaps that should have been caught. I was also a bit put off by the attitude of the protagonist. He can't figure out which of the three girls in his life he wants to be with, finally decides on one, but gets over their abrupt break-up rather quickly (one day) and moves to the next girl. Then again, I've never been a 15-year-old boy and maybe this is how they act in real life. I will say that the descriptions of the town were very nice. I would love to visit a place like Buzby Beach. This book will probably entertain teens ages 14-16 but I felt it needed more work.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2014I truly enjoyed The Boy from Buzby Beach. Of course, I loved 'being at the beach' and truly felt like I was there but what I really identified with was the emotional rollercoaster of teenage years. Yes, it's been a long time since I was a teen...but some things you never forget!
This book will definitely be enjoyed by young adults and those of us who have reached 'a certain age' and everyone in between. Well done Mr. Davis. I look forward to the sequel. There is a sequel isn't there?
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2015The Boy from Buzby Beach follows 15 year old Jacques during the first few weeks of summer break. Jacques is a really good kid who gets up extremely early to help out at his mom's coffee shop and the small island town is full of interesting characters. DW Davis did a wonderful job of describing the island lifestyle and the typical struggles of teens fumbling through dating and love. This was a heartwarming story that I very much enjoyed.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2014I really enjoyed reading this book by Doug Davis. The characters come to life and it was hard to put it down. I was drawn into the story and the lives of all the characters. I felt like I knew exactly what the shops looked like. It is all so real to me. This is an awesome story of young love. I can't wait for the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2014It's tough being a teenager, I remember. DW Davis shows us the pain associated with young love from a boy's perspective, very unusual now-a-days as most books concentrate on the girl's side of the story. This book will be appreciated by young people going through the coming-of-age phase.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2014Well written and a joy to read even though it is about young people and I am only young in my mind. I enjoyed the fact that it was based in an area near where I live. The author's writing style puts your mind eye right in the story.
