3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 58 ratings

Welcome to an exotic seven-day dream cruise filled with gastronomic delights.

Imagine waking up on a different ship in a new port of call every day, and treating your taste buds to a gourmet meal every evening, each carefully prepared by one of the best chefs afloat. This book highlights the most interesting menus and recipes from a diversity of cruise lines, from the luxurious Cunard Line - famed for its opulent ocean liners - to a small but highly exclusive line of yachts that offer the most personalized cruise experience.

You'll see daily snapshots of a week of luxury cruising. A chapter for each day briefly introduces each ship, explains where it is located, and gives information about each cruise line and its chefs. The main focus is on the dinner menu, followed by recipes for recreating every delectable morsel in your own kitchen.

Praise:

★★★★★ - "A must-have cookbook for the true cooking enthusiast."

★★★★★ - "I was amazed at how easy it was to prepare the recipes, even though they look and taste as if many hours went into their preparation."

★★★★★ - "Interesting historical information, and recipes that weren't as full of exotic ingredients as I had feared. If you can't spare the expense of an on ship experience, you can still take a ' flavor cruise' with some of these recipes."

★★★★★ - "Just started using the recipes in this lovely cookbook... Great eating ahead!"

Around The World In 80 Meals by Diana Rubino has to be one of the best cruise ship cookbooks I've ever read! I have been highlighting meal after meal! Dang.. this cookbook, while nice to have on kindle.. I want a physical copy. The recipes all look like they've been given by some of the best chefs the seas have to offer! We love to cruise.. and, I was happy to see some of the dishes that I've actually had on board during various cruises.

The author outdid herself with research, finding menus, recipes, and even included some of the modern sugar free dishes that folks enjoy while cruising! This one.. is a must have cookbook for the true cooking enthusiast!

I already had quite a few cookbooks, but I've never been on a cruise, so this book seemed like the perfect opportunity to get an inside peek at what kind of food folks indulge in on those luxury liners. Plus, it was also supposed to offer some insight into the various cruise lines, as well. (You know, just in case I ever DO take the leap and venture out on a cruise someday...)

Bottom line, it's an okay book. Some of the menus were fairly opulent, but there weren't any recipes in the book that made me sit up and go, "WOW! I've gotta try THAT!" and very few new-to-me cooking tips. As for the info on the cruise lines, it was shallow, at best, so think of this book as primarily a cookbook. (But to be perfectly honest, I mostly skimmed the blah-blah-blah about the ships... I guess I'm not a great candidate for a cruise, eh?) A cookbook with standard recipes and zero photographs of the finished product.

This cookbook is a major disappointment. It features recipes from famous cruise ships including special recipes for dignitaries and other famous people. The only pics are of the cruise ships and copies of some of the menus that were too small to read. It promised elegance but did not deliver with no pics of the recipes. Not only that the formatting was all over the place with huge letters with extra black sprinkled around the book. There really is no original work here but just copied and pasted recipes. There was no interviews with the management of the cruise lines or other information, so I was really disappointed.

Some interesting recipes for those who wonder what the meals are like on a cruise. I had hoped for more travel stories, but I like cook books, too.

Well worth the purchase of this book. I have enjoyed food of this this caliber on occasions, but have never had any fantastic recipes in my collection before now. The recipes are in depth, multi faceted, loaded with ingredients, and straightforward.

Although I haven’t bought this cruise cookbook I came across it on Amazon while looking for something else. I have been cruising for over 6 years now, starting with a full world cruise in ‘15. I continue to sail each year for a month and only travel on Crystal Cruises who’s chefs are 5* Michelan rated. The point of this review is to mention that the meals served onboard in the ‘main’ dining room are not that great imo - they have a tendency to do more ‘contemporary’ style meals and focus on the visual appearance more than the taste. I don’t eat there when I travel but prefer to eat in one of the numerous other restaurants on board, including the buffets and Nobu restaurants (he has 2 of them on the ship), Brazilian steakhouse, etc. My point is that I would not recommend this particular cookbook thinking that it’s going to include some fantastic ‘luxury’ type recipes. I say this not to ‘brag’ but I’ve been cooking as a hobby since I was 15 years old (I’m now 65) and have made dishes from every ethnic variety (with the exception of German food which I don’t like, even though I’m 1/2 German!). I hope this helps someone who is expecting a great cookbook with amazing, unique (to cruise lines) recipes and has you think twice before buying it as an ‘escape’ from the humdrum ones that are available in books and online! I also hope Amazon prints this review as I am a very good customer for just about everything - only I didn’t purchase this item nor would I!

Nice recipes clearly presented and not too many but the lack of a detailed table of contents or index greatly reduces its utility as an ebook cookbook.

Very disappointed. The format is just slightly larger than a paperback novel and the scanned menus so small as to be virtually unreadable. Not good value.
