4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

Siblings Micah and Sarah visit their grandmother’s lake house every summer, but they never imagined that a seemingly ordinary jaunt to the beach would lead them to an adventure of a lifetime.

A remarkable find holds the key to a magical world known as Hogar Haven, a strange world where goblins rule and visitors are forced to fight for their freedom. When they befriend a cowboy in the magical land, they soon discover just how difficult life is for those trapped in Hogar Haven.

Soon, they find themselves working with the cowboy to help him save his horse, but they don’t have much time. If they don’t hurry, they just may find themselves trapped in the mystical world.

Can they find a way out before it’s too late?

I downloaded this book for my Kindle to read after I saw a post from the author on Instagram.🦄 @kristyngasten All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 The Cowboy and The Unicorn by Kristyn Gasten. 🦄This book is the first in a series but ends well enough it could stand alone. Micah and Sarah are at their Grandma's house playing in the sand. Sarah is hoping to dig all the way to China until she finds a rock. As they take the rock to show their Grandma they learn it has a magical purpose. Only they aren't sure the story they are told is real. In order to prove or disprove the story they find themselves trapped in a magical place rescuing a Cowboy and his horse from strange talking creatures around them. 🐎🐎🐎This is a wonderful short chapter book for young readers.

This is a great book! My 8 year old daughter and I loved reading it together at bedtime. The main characters in “The Cowboy and the Unicorn” are very relatable, and the sibling dynamic is authentic and fun. We were drawn into the book right from the start, and found it very hard to put down at the end of chapters! This story provides a unique balance of imagination, adventure, humor and suspense. Excited to see what the next book in the series brings!

If this story was written by a middle school student, I would give it a B+. It is more like short story than a novel. I kept waiting for the plot to develop, like maybe have a confrontation with the goblins. As the "villains", they are not developed at all and escaping from them is very easy. In daylight, just run away. In dim light, make a distracting sound to fool them.
It appears that the author expects you to buy sequels in the hopes that some substance will appear. Fool me once...not going to happen. I'm taking this "book" off of my tablet.
