This book took out a lot of fear about labor. The idea of accepting what my body is doing to bring my baby earth side and also preparing incase things don’t go according to plan. I feel excited for labor and will give an update after I go through it. If you have a partner to read this book with I highly recommend so.

Great, easy to read and understand advice. Some parts are a bit hokey, but it’s overall a great book to learn what your body is going through and how to advocate for yourself. Was the first pregnancy book I read and I plan to take some of the advice into the delivery room! Really clearly worded and taught me things I definitely didn’t know about!

This book is truly empowering for someone wanting to attempt a vaginal birth. I appreciated the exercises for preparation for labor and birth, they truly helped me be in a better head space. The detailed explanations of what is happening in each stage and how you can work with your body to make things easier was *invaluable*!

The only reason I would give this book 4 stars is that the author is UK based and because of that, the health care provider info and info about choosing a location to give birth, isn't quite the same as it is for someone in the US (this book is being sold to the US, so IMO it should have US relevent info). We need a book like this with US based info!! PLEASE!?

Really enjoyed reading this book while I was pregnant with my first child. It was very uplifting and informative on the practice of hynobirthing/pregnancy.

I first read this book three years ago but realized I never left a review and the book is just too good to not leave a review for. When I was pregnant with my first child, I was scared to death of childbirth and the mental part of it felt overwhelming to me. I knew I needed to be prepared mentally but had no idea where to start.

I’m honestly not sure where I found “Your Baby, Your Birth”, but I’m so glad I did. I read a LOT of books about childbirth leading up to that first birth and this was by far my favorite. The idea of hypnobirthing seemed very out there to me (especially as a Christian), but the book does a great job of explaining right away what it is and what it is not. In the end, I used some of the hypnobirthing techniques, altered others (such as using Bible verses as affirmations), and didn’t use others.

However, the best part of the book, to me, was the thorough explanation of exactly what happens during childbirth and how your body and mind react. Understanding the connection between fear and pain was a game changer for me, and this book is extremely helpful in that regard. For this reason, I’d recommend this book to anyone prior to childbirth, regardless of how you feel about hypnobirthing.

The other thing that has to be noted here is how beautifully judgement-free this book is. So many childbirth books, especially those that help with the mental aspect of childbirth, have a way of passing judgment on so many of the decisions mamas make during childbirth. This book, however, is clear in its support of whatever decisions you make and is helpful regardless of whether you’re having a home birth, hospital birth, epidural, med-free, c-section, the list goes on, birth.

I’ve now had two births without pain medication and genuinely loved the experience. I believe a big part of that is due to this book.

I didn't find this book overly helpful. The MP3 music is the best part but you can access those without buying the book. The book might be helpful for someone who is super anxious or has trouble chilling out but I didn't find any tips that I felt were specific to birth and pregnancy. They were all general relaxation techniques that I already knew.

This was a great, practical, non-judgemental book for women looking to go into birth as prepared and calm as they can. I love that this book embraces all kinds of birth choices and situations instead of promoting the notion that there is only one right way to birth your baby. This book helps you prepare for your birth, while also establishing understanding that your plan may need to be ditched entirely or altered to accommodate unforeseen circumstances. It is a realistic and healthy approach that I found very useful as a first time expectant mom.

Easy and enjoyable to read. Calms all anxieties about giving birth and makes you feel empowered. I really like that she doesn’t push for a drug free home birth like some other books because she understands from experience your birth plan can change at a moments notice. Instead, she urges you to focus on breathing techniques and trust in your own body to go with the flow with whatever interventions or drugs are required. If you have any anxieties about giving birth this book is a must read.

The book was good and really helped to calm my nerves during pregnancy so it was great for that and helped me to really narrow down what necessities I wanted during labour and after. However when the day came I didn't really use any of the techniques, or the bits I had bought - it all very quickly. I ended up with severe preeclampsia and needed all sorts of medical help from the hospital staff and spent 10 days in hospital, but I still consider it a positive experience - I certainly don't have any regrets or feel like I was pushed into anything. I stated on my notes that I didn't want any students as the books made it sound like it would be nicer and calmer without, honestly the students in the labour ward I went to were the best and really supportive and I regretted putting that on there - one of the students ended up staying with me anyway and she ended up being the best support at the time I needed it the most, as the midwife was busy talking to the drs, updating my notes, and doing various other medical bits (due to the preeclampsia there was a lot going on). The main bit I took away from this book and others was to understand what your rights were and what your options are regarding interventions, drugs and the location where you choose to *plan* to give birth (in the end my options were limited, but the reasons were medically justifiable and I think that's the main takeaway to bear in mind). So the reason my experience was positive was because I did a lot of reading beforehand so I knew what to expect at each stage - including this book, other hypnobirthing books but also online. I think you could probably read up a lot of hypnobirthing techniques online yourself tbh, and Google some birthing mantras which really helped me to keep calm during pregnancy. I would just advise first time mother's to take note of how many stories in the book, on the website, or any courses you end up doing are also from FTM and what their experiences were. I think if I had another baby I might use hypnobirthing techniques abit more.

This book helped me experience a beautiful, positive birth! Of course that's not to say it wasn't challenging at times, but I had the tools to calmly face these :) It also helped me to accept that each birth is individual and I had no expectations, I feel that's one of the reasons it was such a positive experience. I didn't have an epidural (although I began labour with flexibility towards this, also thanks to this book).
Widwives and staff commented on how calm and well I managed, one actually asked if I'd done a hipno-birthing course ;)
Easy read, sometimes slightly repetitive but I think this helps to reiterate important points. I think some visual diagrams would be good for us visual learners eg. breathing techniques throughout labour.

In a world where I found pregnancy and birth to be dominated by lists, rules, medical teams, pharmacies, appointments, risks, and endless plans and worry, this book will strip away all of the noise, and reminds you that in fact the only things that really matter are you and your baby - and puts you back in control of both.
At 30 weeks pregnant, it calmed my fractured, racing mind like nothing else could, and gave me the tools I needed to live and enjoy my birthing experience. Thanks to Hollie, I went into my birth feeling strong, empowered, and able to make measured decisions that were right for me and my baby. I was able to see me, my partner, and the hospital staff as a team all on equal footing and all working together to achieve a happy, healthy birth.
I've since recommended this read to other pregnant friends and their feedback has always been the same; thank %^*& for this book !

I really really really really (4 really's) enjoyed reading this book. Even just looking at the cover made me feel calm. Written in a really lovely way, easy to understand and makes you just want to keep reading. Of course there were bits of it that I shall substitute with my own ideas...but it is definitely worth a read if you would like to have more insight on your pregnancy, and just generally how to stay calm whilst birthing.
