The Hole In the World Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 130 ratings

Klem Antrim would go to the ends of the Earth to see his father alive again—but he’ll have to travel much farther than that. Klem’s life in picturesque Sea Scarp has just taken a turn for the worse. The car crash that killed his father knocked Klem straight out of reality, and since that day nothing in his life has seemed quite right. Not only is Klem being followed, he keeps stumbling into invisible tunnels that snake through town. But when he peers through one tunnel’s glassy walls and catches a glimpse of his father—alive and well—Klem realizes the town outside the tunnels isn’t his Sea Scarp at all. Such things aren’t possible, of course. But if Klem is losing his mind, then how has the mysterious stranger who’s been tailing him already mapped out every invisible hole in town? Now Klem will set out to find the one tunnel that leads to his father. But unraveling the truth behind his father’s death is about to unravel a much more dire truth—a truth that’s been hidden in plain sight.

This was quite an imaginative story kind of plodding through with some twists and turns along the way. In the latter part of the book there is a big twist so your patience will have a reward.

An interesting novel of a twist in time connecting similar but not the same worlds. Well written and intriguing narration and I recommend it to you.

Anyone who enjoys speculative fiction, which stretches the imagination almost to the breaking point will love this book. It leaves the reader hungry for more.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and I wonder if they shouldn’t try short stories instead. The ideas are interesting mysteries, like Twilight Zone episodes, but the characters don’t seem real, and there’s a lot of awkward conversations and repetitive action sort-of filling space before the reveal, which makes the endings seem rushed. There’s an epilogue in this book (spoiler alert!) ………………. with a BTVS twist and a promise that a sequel will explain things, but frankly the characters weren’t interesting enough and the reveal so out of left field that I don’t think I would read a sequel if there is one.

I enjoyed reading this book very much and I recommend this book to anyone who like Sci-fi and unusual problems in a apocalypse type of setting.

I’m not generally a sci-if fan, but I found this a highly enjoyable read. Engaging story and good writing. Looking forward to the next one!

I picked up The Hole in the world by J.D. Robinson on someones suggestion.

This is one of those books that starts out with an interesting beginning and then sort of wanders off to do some world building and if you are in a hurry you might get annoyed; however it is helpful to continue on because the nature of the story is such that it needs this buildup.

This is one of those types of stories similar to Philip K Dicks work where things happen for a reason and everything is building up to that point where the reader discovers that everything you just processed has been turned on its ear. For this reader that part was easy to figure out so it was more a matter of waiting for that other shoe to drop. When it does--things get fun. The focus is mostly on three main characters that are done quite well and keep the reader on his toes.

As I mentioned there are a number of word problems. Places where the word in the text doesn't make sense until the reader figures out what should be there. It's not real bad, because after stopping to process it, it is easy to figure out. However for me this lost it a star.

The book could end without the Epilogue--which incidentally leaves room for a sequel.

Definitely heading on to the author's next offering.

This was a nicely imagined book. Characters took a little while to flesh out but grew as the book went on. Some original ideas and a mysterious co-protagonist. some cool surprises. Ending could have been longer and more detailed but it does indeed end with some nice twists. Not generally a series fan but this throws an opening in at the conclusion that leaves a potential door open. There is enough promise here that i would buy a sequel given the intiguing potential shown thus far.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but had too many swear words.......
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 19, 2021
This book was put in childrens ebooks and it seemed like a good storyline. I then gave it to my daughter and she read it saying that there were swear words in it. There were at least 20 and it was still listed under kida ebooks. Whoever wrote this as a 'kids book' didn't think of the swear words.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale. It was very different from anything I have ever read. I had to take a few breaks so that I could absorb the concepts. Looking forward to reading more of their adventures .
