In the year 2036, the world is a very controlled place. Robots owned by a single corporation named IRIS have filled the vast majority of jobs. Nearly everyone works for IRIS subsidies. Crime has been all but eliminated, with the exception of actions from anti-AI groups labeled as terrorist organizations by the government.

While most humans live in massive cities, Kyle Conscentia spends his days with his father in the Nevada desert. Day in and day out, Kyle’s father recaptures the consciousness of robots to perform hardware upgrades. The two lived a comfortable blue-collar life until Kyle’s 16th birthday, when things changed forever.

Framed by the media for something he did not do, and with only a fugitive machine to defend his innocence, Kyle must engage in a quest to clear his name and uncover a dark and hidden truth.

Great story. Compelling.

I didn't have a hard time getting through this book - normally sci fi books lose me pretty early on in all the detail. I was able to read with relative ease, and without getting lost and having to go back and re-read part to understand what was going on. The plot is interesting, and definitely keeps you on your toes. My only issue was that I was unable to really relate with the characters to get to a point where I was really rooting for them.

I am Waltz is what I would call a popcorn book, basically it’s the same idea as it’s movie counterpart. Fun, light and airy and too not complex or serious. It was an interesting story with all the required components; a variety of cool technology, a kid and robot best friend named Waltz, and the band of teenagers who work together to save the world. It’s set in the year 2036 and it’s a little like West World meets The Terminator with a splash of the movie AI.

Like West World, one of the bots becomes self-aware. IRIS discovers this bot is missing, has become self-aware and decides they must destroy it. IRIS also tries kill everyone who might know a bot is free from control by the evil overlords. This ends poorly as the attempt to cover up the missing bot sparks a revolution. There are those who think all machines, including bots should be free from control.

There are some inconsistencies that exist here and there, but hey, it’s science fiction, and since when didn’t an inconsistency happen in a sci-fi story. I can see this book appealing to anyone who likes technology, video games, or the robot future. Especially nerds and techies from YA and on up, and yes, this nerd/technology fan is included. It’s a fast paced read with plenty of action to keep your interest. For a debut book in the sci-fi genre, I give Matthew Dho props on I Am Waltz.

I Am Waltz  I received my pre-order from the publisher yesterday and I could not put this book down until I was finished. I think what impressed me most was the deft blend of high-concept Sci-Fi and action-packed page-churner. It had some amazing futuristic concepts that raise difficult questions about humanity, our reliance on technology, and what it is about us that makes us human - but set to an absolutely thrilling narrative. Think if Blade Runner was as fun and exciting as Star Wars or Ready Player One.

The book really wears its influences on its sleeve but transcends all of that to create something that feels really fresh and new. I could certainly picture this book making an incredible movie. The world-building is so deftly-woven into the plot that I felt myself inside of it and wanted to badly to join the characters and have all of the rad future technology available to me! The book ends on a satisfying conclusion to the story but at the same time left me wanting more and to find out what happens next. Can't wait for the sequel!

I pre-ordered this book last year from the publisher, and was excited when it hit my doorstep a few weeks ago. Once I started, I was quickly hooked. It's a fast paced, and fascinating read- and I don't normally choose sci-fi. As someone who works with AI, it hits close to home, and brings to light the scary side of society's innovation and evolution. The book takes place only 20 years into the future, and it seems like this is the direction we could be going in. I found myself chatting with my boyfriend and friends about the reality of this novel.... it brings up a lot to think about! I loved it, and highly recommend it.

This is sci-fi done right. It's so much more than a great techie backdrop. The characters are immediately relatable and you're rooting for them right from the start. Great back stories. Great story arcs. Great use of technology. Very well written. I really liked this book.

Kyle, a teenager, and Waltz, a fugitive robot, set out to clear Kyle's name after he is framed for a crime and team up to take on a sinister organization behind it all. I Am Waltz takes inspiration from the sci-fi stylings of Philip K. Dick. Fast-paced and imaginative. There is an overload of backstory when various characters are introduced that slows the pace early. But it has enough twists and turns to keep you turning the pages.

Even without reading Mr. Who's bio, I could tell he had studied literature. Even without the cliffhanger style chapters, the skilled narrative aline could have kept me reading. I hope to read more of this series.
