Markie Madden was born August 19, 1975, in Midland, Texas. She grew up in the small town of Flushing, Michigan. While in high school, she took creative writing and was a photographer for the school newspaper. In 1993, she won the National Quill and Scroll Society award for best photo in a high school paper. She began writing her first novel, Once Upon a Western Way, while still attending school.

Markie is now married with two teenage daughters, three rescue dogs, and her horse, Athena, who is featured on the cover of her horse care guide, Keeping a Backyard Horse. She tried many times over the years to publish her novel, first on her own, and then hiring a literary agent, all without success. In early 2012, after getting her first smart phone and e-reader application, Nook, she discovered the world of self-publishing through a website called Smashwords. She finally published Once Upon a Western Way through this distributor in April, 2012.

In the late spring of 2013, Markie came down with a mysterious illness, which was ultimately diagnosed as leukemia (AML specifically). She underwent a rigorous treatment of chemotherapy, during which, at one point, her life was endangered. While she was hospitalized, an old high school friend who is also a published author reconnected with her. Since cancer and the treatment of cancer forced her out of the traditional workforce, Markie turned her attention back to the world of writing.

By December of 2014, Markie was the successful publisher of three books, her first published work, Once Upon a Western Way, now available in print as well as e-format, as well as a self-help guide to horse care, Keeping a Backyard Horse, available in print and e-format, and her cancer memoir, My Butterfly Cancer, available in print, e-format, and audiobook. Her other two will soon be available in audiobook format as well. Markie has founded Metamorph Publishing, in order to publish her own books, and she is now working with two other independent authors as well.

Currently, Markie lives in the small town of Fisk, Missouri, with her family, her dogs, and her horse. She is still writing and is working on a crime/paranormal series called The Undead Unit Series. Book one of the series, Fang and Claw, is now available. The second book of the series, Souls of the Reaper, is expected out in 2016, along with a thriller novel entitled Cured Delusions. I just finished Pharaoh's Destiny and then followed with Liberty. Little did I know it would be a deeper study into Hatchepsut's daughter. It was rewarding to read them one after the other. It is my fault I wasn't prepared for the gift of reading them. The characters are so real, that I almost forget this is fiction. As a long time history buff, this book added so much to my knowledge of a half-erased woman, daughter and time in ancient history. I suggest this book to everyone interested in history, women and Egypt.

I’ve been fascinated with early Egyptian history since I was a child, so I was immediately attracted to Markie Madden’s novelette, Liberty: An Electric Eclectic Book. The story begins in the present with Chelsea Freeman who is visiting Egypt for the first time. As she explores the Valley of the Kings she experiences deja-vu. Everything seems familiar to the young woman, as though she had been there centuries prior. Touching a stone wall where a carving had obviously been chipped away she is suddenly transported to the distant past.
This is the story of Hatshepsut, the King of Upper and Lower Egypt. AAfter the death of her husband, the King, she assumed the throne. Her daughter, Neferure, assumes the role of the King’s Great Wife because the rituals of the time required both a male and female. Although the title is in name only, Neferure is devoted to her mother. She is attracted to a boy of royal blood, Haremsat, and hopes her mother, the Pharoah, will choose him for her husband. Neferure also practices using traditional male weapon’s and is trained by the Vizier. This is very unusual, but she is a unique young woman.
Neferure has a step-brother named Thutmose who she believes plans to poison her mother and assume the title of Pharoah. He has been enticing others to join him against Hatshepsut, including members of the army. Neferure informs her mother of her suspicions and what follows is both mystical and physical.
Madden has woven a fascinating tale combining fiction and history. It is apparent she has done research in crafting this story. Her descriptions of the settings and clothing of the time period are detailed. The characters practically leap off the page. Although this story is short, it is rich in aspect, both in the present and the past. The story is compelling and comes to a satisfying conclusion.
A reader who enjoys historical stories, especially those about ancient Egypt, will love this book. In fact, it is so well written, any reader will undoubtedly find this a good read.
I have read several of the Electric Eclectic books and each has proved to be a wonderful introduction to authors that were new to me.

Chelsea Freeman has a strong feeling of Deja-Vu when she visits Valley of the Kings for the first time. Suddenly transported back in time to the fifteenth year of Hatshepsut’s reign, she experiences a few days as Neferure, daughter of the first female Pharoah.

As a fan of Markie Madden’s Undead Unit series, I was tempted to read Liberty, and found the story a wonderful mix of fiction and well-researched history. The detailed and descriptive writing lets you visualise the setting as you follow along with the intrigue and rivalry of the Pharaohs ‘court’.

Liberty reveals another side to the authors writing, as well as her obvious love of Ancient Egypt.

Chelsea Freeman gets more than she bargained on when visiting Egypt. She had often dreamt about ancient Egypt, she had a fascination with the great Hatshepsut, the first female Pharaoh. Dreams can sometimes become reality.
The author transports the reader on a scintillating journey of intrigue. You witness sibling rivalry, plotting to seize power and the climactic conclusion. I’ve read and enjoyed several Wilbur Smith novels set in the time of the Pharaohs, Liberty is a delightful short Electric Eclectic novel designed to stimulate your taste buds. Perhaps that should read advance your reading enjoyment.
I enjoyed it, I’m sure you will too.
And an appealing cover.

King Hatshetsup was a clever, powerful woman ahead of her time. The story brings to life this ruler of ancient Egypt through her daughter Neferure. The writing style is lovely: “The morning sun already sent shimmers of heat in waves across the desert floor.” Royal intrigue and an incipient revolution lead to violence; who will survive? This is well written and a quick read.

Great little read, especially if the Egyptians fascinate you. The present collides with the past when Chelsea on her first visit to the pyramids, realises she has been there before.

The story of the past kicks in then as we follow a young girl foil a plot to murder her mother, the Pharaoh.
