Fully Staffed: A Tale Of Two Staffies (Canine Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 441 ratings

Fully Staffed begins in 1980 with the story of Spike, aka Mr. Wigs, a beautiful Golden Labrador who melts the hearts of everyone he meets, and breaks the hearts of the ones he leaves behind.

As a puppy, he surprises all the vets by surviving a life-threatening disease, and goes on to enjoy a long, happy and healthy life.

Several years later we meet Spike, then Jake - both Staffordshire Bull Terriers, but totally different in every way. Spike is the bruiser, while Jake is the social butterfly.

This story is about how they came to live with us, their little quirks and the canine capers they got up to along the way. These two wonderful little guys filled our hearts, and our home, with joy and happiness, and completely changed our views about Staffies.

Fully Staffed is a heartwarming story filled with tears of laughter and sadness, and sure to be enjoyed by dog lovers everywhere.

Born in the North West of England, Linda Meredith was brought up in a large family where laughter was never very far away! Married in the seventies, she left her home town Stalybridge behind, when she married a serviceman in the Royal Air Force. With two sons, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren, she now lives in the beautiful county of Rutland with husband Iain, two dogs, Louie & Tia, and a rabbit named Yabbit! (because they couldn't agree on a name for her!) Linda has always loved writing. She began by writing funny poems as a child, progressing to anecdotes for her boys & anyone else who'd listen in later years. She attended a creative writing course to see if she had what it takes, but still remained unsure. Her first serious attempt at writing came years later, with the publication of Fully Staffed - her baby, which took 8 years to complete, but Linda believes all the time and tears was worth it. It tells of the joy and heartache of loving & losing mans' best friends - Dogs! It may never have happened had it not been for buying a book from Amazon - Sasha, by the amazing author Brian L. Porter. She contacted Brian to tell him how much she'd enjoyed his book, and over time, they struck up a friendship via Facebook. When she told him she'd been trying to write a book for several years, Brian helped and encouraged her to finish it. This led to Creativia Publishers, who published it last year. Her second book - Liberating Louie (release date 10/06/19) is about the two dogs they rescued, but not by conventional methods. Linda believes in writing from the heart, telling it as it is, without any airs or graces, prompting both tears of joy and pain. She is both humbled and delighted with the reviews her first book recieved. Now retired, she and Iain can spend more time with the family -both two and four legged versions, and are enjoying every minute! She is planning to write more - a lot more!

I fell in love with Mr Wigs, Spike and Jake. Reading the book it immediately becomes apparent that the Author loves her dogs with every ounce of her being. Her and her Spouse take their role as Dog Parents very seriously. All their dogs are lucky to have these folks taking them in. A life every dog deserves. I smiled a lot, laughed and shed quite a few tears. I'm a fan of the Author. I just ordered her 2nd book and can't wait to read it. Great book for any dog lover.

Having loved a staffy for several years, reading this book was sometimes difficult (especially the last chapters). The love of Ms. Meredith for her dogs made this an ultimately enjoyable read. Only someone who has dearly loved their dogs would understand this book completely. As difficult as it must have been for Ms. Meredith to write this love story to Jake & Spike, I am very glad she did, and I take pride in being brave enough to read it.

I enjoyed reading this honest, sincere and heartfelt book. I could just picture the two Staffys in their antics and it was so easy to follow along on all of their doggy adventures. A roller coaster of emotions on this journey that is well worth taking. I laughed and cried. Excellent author.

I've been a dog person since I was 6 years old. Now I'm 64. I lost my 2 best friends years ago. Thor, a shepherd/ lab mix and Phantom, a black lab. This book brought back so many memories. Very well written. Lots of emotion. I can only hope my dogs will be waiting for me at the rainbow bridge when my time comes. Many thanks Ms. Meredith for an exceptional story.

I love this book. It made me laugh and cry. I have a 7 year old Staffie and he makes me laugh daily with his shenanigans. I dread the day he crosses the bridge. Dogs are such amazing and wonderful beings. Thank you for such a beautiful story about life and death.

I enjoyed this book. The author was very generous in sharing her dogs story with us. Anyone who loves their pets or has lost their 4 legged baby will smile and understand how the family felt losing their little darling. Those dogs had a good life.

Chelsea
5.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of tissues required for both tears of joy and sadness
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 6, 2022
Gorgeous book, well written and it so reminded me of two of my [now over the Rainbow Bridge] dogs, who were partners like Spike and Jake. Chelsea suffered from seizures for 11 years of her 13 year life, and the red coated Zac, the Staffy cross we rescued, whose grin never failed to give love, until he had the stroke that took him.
This is a story that has to be read. It is full of love, joy and some sadness, no sorry I must be truthful, lots of sadness, but you will get through it with a box of tissues at hand, and you will be pleased that you did.
My only grumble albeit small, was the fact that a more conscientious proof reader or typist would have made for a smoother read, but for content you did a great job Linda.
I'm off to start reading the sequel now. Now where did I put those tissues!

After reading all of BRIAN Porters books about his rescue dogs, I didn't think I would find any other books that would move me as much, but I have. This wonderful book full of true love and mischief has been a pleasure to read.Having owned a staffy of my own and being a staffy nanna,I know how full on they are,and how when you say goodbye, the pain and sorrow nearly kills you. I will certainly be looking for more books by Linda Meredith and recommend this book to all dog lovers everywhere

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Staffy devotees

We have been the fortunate adoptive parents to a few rescue Staffies. Our current 2 are 13 and 7 years old. We have had them both since they were about 2 years old. Reading this book was just so familiar as there are so many similarities to our 2. Our 7 year old, isn't wired up right and Lunar, the 13 year old, is just the biggest sweetheart we have ever met. We also had an English Bull Terrier who ended up with dementia, her symptoms were very much like Jake's when the brain tumour struck. I also was staioned beside Oakham when i was in the RAF. I laughed and cried, and cuddled my 2 a lot, while reading this beautiful book.
