Daughter of Draekons: A Prison Planet Slice of Life (Dragons in Exile Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 1,027 ratings

We're still stuck on the prison planet, and I'm pregnant.

I cycle between three states.
Hungry. Horny. Weepy.

I eat french fries dipped in vanilla pudding.

I look like a beached whale.

I'm also scared. No one knows what my child will look like, or what species she’ll be. She could be human or Draekon, or…

Something else entirely.
Something new.

Daughter of Draekons.

Daughter of Draekons is a short story set in the Dragons in Exile series. It does not not stand alone, and should be read after Draekon Destiny. Catch up with everyone on the prison planet while you’re waiting for Draekon Fever.

SPOILER ALERT: DRAEKON DESTINY (BOOK 5 IN THIS SERIES) ABSOLUTELY MUST BE READ BEFORE THIS NOVELLA. WHILE THE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES MAY BE READ AS STANDALONES, IT IS RECOMMENDED THEY BE READ IN ORDER. HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVEN'T AT LEAST READ DRAEKON DESTINY, THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS.

A human pregnant with a Draekon child. Exactly how does that work? That's the problem. No one knows. Harper's a maelstrom of emotions, both ecstatic and terrified over her child. Vulrux may be the medical expert, but he's never dealt with any birth, much less a human/Draekon one. Given that Harper now has three default states, ravenous, horny, and hormonal blubbering, Vulrux and Dennox are alternately overjoyed and panic-stricken. And as much as this child is a miracle, no one knows how long Harper will be pregnant, what her daughter will be, or what this child means for both human and Draekon alike. The old ongoing tensions still weigh on everyone. Raiht'vi's still missing. Then there's Gunnix. If ever there was an unknown factor, he's it. Add in hiding the remaining unassembled cloakship, the Zoraken scouring the planet for not just Raiht'vi, but the Draekons' underground home, the possibility those in the first cloakship may just have survived their escape attempt, and the very real fact Lennox may be lying in wait for anyone audacious enough to try escape, and a bubbling caldron of uncertainty lies waiting to go off like a powder keg. So many questions. So few answers. As Harper gives birth, everything else temporarily fades into the background. This precious child brings unprecedented hope. But for how long? There's so much no one on any side of this equation knows. Can Harper's child hold the answers? Is there truly a new beginning for these exiles? Or will this be the beginning of the end for the Draekons, their mates, their hopes, dreams, and new lives?

This story is absolutely beautiful! It's a very quick read and an absolute delight! While Harper, Vulrux, Dennox, and their little girl are front and center in this story, the other mated couples, particularly Viola, Arax, and Nyx, and Felicity, Luddox, and Xanthox, add mystery and drama too. When you throw in the unending machinations of Lennox, the Zoraken, Raiht'vi, Gunnix, and the hints of what's to come, along with the rest of the Draekon and human exiles, you have a signature Lee Savino and Lili Zander book. It's filled with intrigue, mystery, uncertainty of every kind, and especially the joy of family and unconditional love. Oh, and let's not forget the hot, steamy, sexiness that fills every one of these books (which is very unforgettable)! Ms. Savino and Ms. Zander have demonstrated over and over just how wonderful their paranormal/sci-fi writing is, and this novella is no different. I absolutely loved this story. Congratulations, Ms. Savino and Ms. Zander on another absolutely beautiful, intriguing, and heartwarming story. Daughter of Draekons deserves nothing less than five stars!

A final note. This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the authors. They work hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to a book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the authors an extreme disservice.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

What a great addition to the Dragons in Exiled series when the very first baby is born between the triad of two dragon males and one human female. But this story has a secondary story in play that I am sure will have more to come very soon, and that is with the highborn scientist, Raih’vi, that was on the ship, Feret 1, transporting the human females to the planet Zorahn.

The plot will have Harper nearing the time of the birth of their daughter but with much trepidation, maybe more so that when pregnant with a human baby. Harper, fearing that her child will be a monster with a misshapen body with horns and scales. Then because gestation is different for human and Zorahn women, they cannot determine when the baby will be due. It will make timing it easier for the next woman, Felicity, when her time comes.

“All I need is for my baby to be healthy, and for both of us to survive. Once she’s born, I know we’ve got the support we need to live on the Prison Planet. We might just be okay.”

As the time arrives, contractions have started, and the birth is near, the typical questions are asked and answered. The birth will include her mates along with two humans, Sofia and Viola. A pledge will be made to the child from her parents.

“How long is this going to go on?”—Harper “As long as it takes. Babies come when they come. Soon you will hold your daughter in your arms.”—Vulrux

“Viola is here, and Sofia too. I lay my head back in relief. Two Draekons and two humans—that feels right. I want women to greet my daughter as she entered the world.”

“I have never seen anything so perfect.” Vulrux’s hand falls on my neck, stroking me. Dennox clears his throat. “All my life there is nothing I have done to lead to this joy. You’ve given us such a gift.” He leans down and kisses my brown. “Our strong, bold, beautiful mate.”

“As I live and breathe, you will never want for anything,” Dennox promises Kaida as she stares up at him. “We will make a better world for you,” Vulrux vows, stroking her soft cheek with a finger. My eyes prickle with tears, “Welcome,” I whisper, “Welcome to the word, daughter of Draekons.”

The story’s secondary story includes those that are searching for Raih’vi and sending ships from Zorahn looking for her. Several have crashed without survivors, but others have landed, and the search is on. Not only looking for Raih’vi but placing the lives of the humans and Draekons in danger. War is coming, the battle lines are being drawn, and Raih’vi is going to be a key player in which side has certain powers.

“A person’s ethics are not measured by what they do when the choices are easy. They’re measured by what they do when the choices are impossibly hard.”—Commander Cax.

My goodness, we must wait until June 2018 for Draekon Fever, the sixth book in the Dragons in Exile series I feel like Veruca Salt from ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,’ “I WANT IT NOW!”

The series just keeps getting better and better! Intrigue, mystery, friendships, romance and adventure. Have very much been enjoying this series! Although you could read some as a standalone, they all have their own HEA, I truly recommend reading the series in order for maximum enjoyment.

Despite this being a novella, this little book gives great insight to several things. I am glad I took the time to read it before moving on to Sofia's story. This book had many povs, including some of the human women and Raiht'vi. So much is happening! Looking forward to the next story.

This was a good book in that it helped move the main plot forward. I was worried it would just be a “here’s a cute baby” kind of thing, but it did more than that.

Spice: 4/5
