The Magnolia Inn Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 21,742 ratings

A #1 Washington Post and Amazon Charts bestseller.

New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown brings together two wounded hearts in a Texas romance of second chances and twice-in-a-lifetime true love.

Inheriting the Magnolia Inn, a Victorian home nestled in the East Texas pines, is a fantasy come true for Jolene Broussard. After living with the guilt of failing to rescue her self-destructive mother, Jolene knows her aunt and uncle’s B&B is the perfect jump start for a new life and a comforting place to call home. There’s just one hitch: stubborn and moody carpenter Tucker Malone. He’s got a half interest in the Magnolia Inn, and he’s planting his dusty cowboy boots squarely in the middle of her dream.

Ever since his wife’s death, Tucker’s own guilt and demons have left him as guarded as Jolene. The last thing he expects is for his new partner to stir something inside him he thought was gone forever. And as wary as Jolene is, she may have found a kindred spirit—someone she can help, and someone she can hold on to.

Restoring the Magnolia Inn is the first step toward restoring their hearts. Will they be able to let go of the past and trust each other to do it together?

Review

“Brown tugs hard at the heartstrings with an emotional contemporary about a grieving widower and a vulnerable bartender…The author does a first-rate job of depicting the devastating stages of grief, provides a simple but appealing plot with a sympathetic hero and heroine and a cast of lovable supporting characters, and wraps it all up with a happily ever after to cheer for.” Publishers Weekly

“A story that skillfully walks the line between women’s fiction and romance and will attract fans of both…Verdict: Two resilient protagonists with ghosts to lay to rest find healing in a touching story brimming with down-home East Texas charm.” Library Journal

“Chock-full of Carolyn Brown’s signature country charm, The Magnolia Inn is a sweet and heartwarming story of two people trying to make the most of their lives, even when they have no idea what exactly is at stake.” FreshFiction

Love this Slow Burn

Love this Slow Burn
The Magnolia Inn is only the second book I’ve ready by Carolyn Brown. I absolutely love her writing style, but this one was a little on the slow side for me. What drew me to this particular read over all her others was the cover. It is absolutely gorgeous and just popped out at me.Jolene Broussard was gifted one-half of The Magnolia Inn by her Aunt Sugar and Uncle Jasper which she couldn’t be more excited about. Unfortunately the other half was gifted to her horrible cousin, Ruben, who promptly put his half up for sale not wanting anything to do with the nostalgic Inn.Enter Tucker Malone. He is looking for a project to keep him busy while his Saturday nights are held for him to drown himself in the bottom of a bottle to forget the pain of his wife’s unexpected death two years prior. The Magnolia Inn was just what he needed, in more ways than one.Jolene isn’t having it though. She was raised by an alcoholic mother, dated alcoholic men and is done taking care of the likes of people who drink themselves stupid to bury their feelings. I loved how strong this character was. She is full of life and is just what Tucker needed. He spent a lot of time talking to and grieving his dead wife and not seeing what was right in front of him until it was almost too late. She breathed life back into this broken man while doing nothing other than being herself. While I did like this story, like I said, it was a really slow burn, but I highly recommend.

This story far exceeded my expectation of a women's fiction/romance!!! The skillful interface of characters dealing with past issues, present grief, and yet moving forward into future contentment is both touching and inspirational. While the main characters were younger, the supporting characters of senior citizens merged a depth of relationships in a most engaging way.

Although the main topics were quite heavy, the author's use of small town Southern lifestyles, humor, and vocabulary lightened the angst to make the story almost unbearably sweet.

The resolutions of the entwined stories were not at all expected, and towards the end I sobbed (reallly sobbed) at how all the characters made peace with their respective realities.

Just a wonderful, wonderful story. The author's remarks in her acknowledgements at the end were much appreciated, as well as her choices of geographical settings, which were accurately depicted.

Good character development. The setting was peaceful, and believable dialogue was important. Nice summer reading on the beach or pool.

The first Carolyn Brown book I read was "The Ladies Room". I have read several since then and I can say that they were all excellent. Her characters become real as you read. I just love her stories.

Great story and author. It's worth reading this book. Family theme, friendships of a lifetime, and love both bittersweet and forever. Enjoy. 🌻💓

My first CB book was “Ladies Room”. I enjoyed it and found it light reading and I laughed along the read. There was a contemporary Christian feel to it and I didn’t notice blatant foul language use. I was looking forward to more of her books. Next I read “The Family Journal”. I found it to be less of a Christian slant but still and engaging story and while there was a few language uses, I still felt that I would enjoy more of CB’s books. That brought me to my next choice, this book, “The Magnolia Inn”. While I appreciate the story of the struggle the main characters were having to overcome their pasts, I had a very slow read, falling asleep several times while trying to read it and not wanting to get back to the book to see what was next. The supporting characters were too busy and although they talked about and even did go to Sunday services, (once I think) there was not a Christian slant at all to the book, openly discussing premarital sex and often using foul language. I honestly feel the story could have been told without the language. But even at that, it just didn’t draw me in like the first 2 I read. I am leery trying another of her books for these reasons and that’s disappointing since I thought I had found an author to follow.

The plot of this story by Carolyn Brown is serious. The main characters are both dealing with the devastating effects of alcoholism. Tucker, a widower, used alcohol to deal with guilt, grief, and pain. Jolene spent her teenage years dealing with a mother addicted to alcohol, drugs, and a self-destructive lifestyle.

Through a twist of fate, Jolene and Tucker become partners in a bed and breakfast inn. While the business aspect seems to click, the personal is bogged down with alcohol baggage. Tucker's relationship with his in-laws was very unique. There is a happy ending, but a rough road to get there.
Each character has their own method of moving on to establish a new life.

This is not a feel good, laugh a minute novel. I found that it expanded the range of Carolyn Brown's writing. All the previous books I read were amusing and fun. This book makes you think and has some great personal insight to deal with grief and pain. If you are a frequent reader of Mrs. Brown, this is a different twist. I recommend that you read this book.

How can you NOT feel inspired after reading this book or any of Carolyn Brown’s books ? They are so human; so easy to quickly get involved with her characters, their hopes and dreams, their weaknesses and strengths …such a breath of fresh air !!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great read...

What a lovely wholesome read, I absolutely loved this book, and I was hooked into the story from the first chapter. I couldn't put the book down as I had to know what happened.

Jolene spent her Summers with her aunt and uncle at their Inn. When they decide to retire and go travelling, they gift the Inn, half to Jolene and half to her cousin Reuben. When Reuben sells his half straight away, Jolene isn't sure what will happen.

Tucker is a young widower, having lost his way a little he is a good carpenter and has a good reputation. Fate brings Tucker and Jolene together as business partners. This book is their story.

Then there's Dotty, Flossie, and Lucy, all ladies of a similar age to Sugar. They've been friends for years and are a support network for each other. Once Sugar goes on her travels, they adopt Jolene into their group, and they have lots of advice for her.

It was a great read, and I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good story, with humour and some romance. There are some great quotes in this book!

Ahimè ho trovato questo libro lento e veramente noioso. Nonostante si dilunghi nei dialoghi tra i personaggi,. L'autrice non riesce a creare una connessione emotiva con il lettore ed il risultato è un libro noioso

Carolyn Brown knows how to write a good women's fiction with wonderful characters and the bonds of friendship that cannot be broken over time or place. She adds in romance and HEA for us to sigh over and gives us many LOL moments with her feisty, lovable, and quirky southern woman of a certain age. She makes you want to pull up a chair at the table and join in the fun. I always want they story to on and on so I can catch up with what her characters are doing... I await the next great story from one of my fav Women's Fiction writers.
