“Fahmy uses humor to work through stereotypes and tell stories about nuanced hijabi characters.” —The Washington Post

Popular Instagram cartoonist and Muslim-American Huda Fahmy presents a hilarious, relatable, and painfully honest new collection of comics that break down barriers and show how universal our everyday problems, worries, and joys actually are.

At some point in our lives, we’ve all felt a little out of place. Huda Fahmy has found it’s a little more difficult to fade into the crowd when wearing a hijab.

In
Yes, I’m Hot in This, Huda navigates the sometimes-rocky waters of life from the unique perspective of a Muslim-American woman, breaking down misconceptions of her culture one comic at a time. From recounting the many questions she gets about her hijab every day (yes, she does have hair) and explaining how she runs in an abaya (just fine, thank you) to dealing with misconceptions about Muslims, Yes, I’m Hot in This tackles universal feelings from an point of view we don’t hear from nearly enough.

Every one of us have experienced love, misunderstanding, anger, and a deep desire for pizza. In
Yes, I’m Hot in This, Huda’s clever comics demonstrate humor’s ability to bring us together, no matter how different we may appear on the surface.

Review

"The book does something an Instagram account simply cannot, which is provide a continuous narrative that flows seamlessly (and humorously) through every emotion experienced by the modern woman wearing hijab. Fahmy illustrates her experiences with amiable, unreserved honesty. The book is an incredibly enjoyable read, too… .Fahmy manages to express all of the struggles she experiences with unabashed zest … at the same time, she asserts that she isn’t defined by these struggles."

A funny & important book

A funny & important book
I follow Huda on IG & I love her approach. She is intelligent, authentic, and kind. So of course I pre-ordered this book. There are lots of comics I hadn’t seen before. I chuckled out loud at a lot of these. Even though I’m not Muslim, the punchlines are often relatable. It even includes a little glossary at the back! These comics teach powerful lessons in a lighthearted way that never comes off as preachy. I love this book, I’m going to buy another copy to donate to my library because everyone needs to read this!

It is a special person who can rise above the ignorant and rude comments people make about them. Huda's humor and observations provide educational opportunities to those of us that don't have a clue.

I just happened to stumble unto this book while browsing Amazon's endless content of books, and I'm so grateful to have done so. As a hijabi Muslimahs we can definitely relate to this book, and my daughter and I found it hilarious! Some parts are funnier than others, but that's probably because we've become accustomed to some of the stereotypes, misinformed comments, and assumptions the 'less informed' make or associate Muslimahs with. We liked this book so much we've purchased all Huda's other books on Amazon to date, and we've even gifted 'Yes, I'm hot in this' as a Ramadan gift to her friend.

Alhamdulillah. May Allah bless this habibty in her efforts to entertain us with her witty humor. Laughing is also medicinal, and it's okay to laugh at oneself, and others too, but in goodness in'shaa Allah. I'm looking forward to more from this author إن شاء الله.

If you want a good laugh and clean humor buy this book. I don't believe you'll regret buying from Huda Fahmy.

I've been following Huda on IG for over a year and I've enjoyed her comics immensely so much so I bought her book as soon as the presale opened!

I got my book this morning (mis-delivery issue but I finally got it in my hands), sat down to just read the first few pages and ended up reading the entire book. Her story telling is incredible and I'm always amazed by people who can say so much while being so succinct and there is so much power in the little bite sized stories she shares with us that, together, bring a broader perspective of her life as an American Muslim woman. I found myself laughing out loud at so many of the pages, I felt pangs in my heart at others and even teared up a bit when she was talking about her hopes. Her illustrations add so much depth to the messages, from the lil glimmers in Gehad's eyes when he gets excited about things and subtle facial expressions she draws when people are being... ugh... people. Huda is hilarious. period. Her sharing glimmers of her life is an absolute gift and while she is hilarious, she's also very vulnerable in what she has chosen to share and how the things that happen to her, affect her. And humor is disarming, it allows people to get into places within themselves they may not be able to if they were just reading straight up information and this book does that just exquisitely...delivers laughs and then dishes truth of experience. There is a definite flow to a broader story in this book than you cannot get in the smaller comics online, which really adds to the entire message.

I think this book is terrific for EVERYONE. Adults need it so they can open their hearts to be a little/lot less close minded and for kids, while some of the stuff would fly over their heads, I think the way she delivers many of her important messages is simple enough, seeds of understanding and acceptance would be planted in even smaller children.

I highly recommend this book. I'll be buying it for my sister for xmas!

I loved seeing the comics, whilst not Muslim I have had many encounters in the culture and there are a huge range of levels and this book makes it easy for everyone to learn something. I highly enjoyed it and found it an informative but not preachy book! Nerds rule man! She is highly relatable and can people just learn to see the person not the hijab please.

I found this artist on Instagram and her work made me chuckle. I'm not a Muslim but having grown up in a lot of different places I could totally relate to the strange questions asked about where you are from and freezing when you don't have a comeback. Love her outlook! A pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comic book that we all need
Reviewed in Germany on December 23, 2018
"Yes, I'm hot in this" is a hilarious and very smart comic book As a Muslim woman myself I can relate so greatly to all those short stories Huda Fahey shares in her book. In the same time she manages to add some personal anecdotes, for example with there husband, that makes this collection so authentic. "Yes, I'm hot in this" is not only extremely entertaining but also encourages you to reflect the societies we live in with all its prejudices and discrimination.
On another note: As a comic artist myself I am so happy to see Muslim women represented in the comic industry!
