Sexy as Sin (Sinful, Montana Book 3) Kindle Edition
Brett Hunter’s life isn’t unicorns and rainbows, and it sure isn’t sparkles. He’s a businessman, a disciplined man, a money man, and if he ever believed in magic, it was a long time ago. He’s not a hero, and he doesn't play one on TV. Oh, and he really doesn't like the water.
What’s he doing, then, on an Australian beach in a custom-made Italian suit, up to his waist in the waves and helping a red-haired mermaid save the day?
No matter how crazy his life gets, not being in control isn’t an option, and neither is veering from his path or falling for mermaids. Also, serious men don’t eat red Popsicles.

From the Inside Flap
"You're wondering why rainbows and unicorns." She set her bag down with the rest of her gear, but kept out her towel. Whatever he said, she wasn't sitting on his beautiful leather seats with salt and sand all over her. "You're wondering whether I'm seventeen, or just a general idiot."
He smiled, the first time she'd seen him do it, and it was full-on charm. Gray eyes showing heaps of warmth, a firm mouth, and all that calm certainty. Strength practically radiated out of this man. "I know you're not seventeen," he said. "I wouldn't be putting you into my car if you were." Which he was, opening the door for her, waiting for her to get settled, then closing it after her. A gentleman. Gordy could take lessons, except that she didn't care if Gordy took lessons.
"When you get to the main road," she said, "take a left. The rainbows and so forth started as a joke, or as a pushback, maybe. I got tired of people saying the world isn't all rainbows and unicorns, when I'd try to bring some light into the situation. Like it's better to be angry and hostile than to make a joke and look for the best. I don't want to see the world that way."
"Your affirmation," he said. No ridicule in his voice.
"Could be. I thought about fluffy bunnies, too, but there's only so far you can take it. The glitter could have been over the top, except that it makes me laugh. Take a right at the next crossing. You drive decently for an American on the left side of the road. Or are you Canadian? Do you come here often? And no, I'm not picking you up."
"First time, on the driving," he said, waiting for the Byron-heavy traffic to clear and then zipping across the intersection. "Though I've been here before. It hasn't been too bad. Just takes focus." He glanced at her, then back at the road again. "Like most things."
"Next left," she said. "Are you ever not calm?"
He lost the smile and got thoughtful. "Not often, no. People tend to think the loudest voice wins. Not true. Generally, the prepared mind wins, and the mind that reads the room, holds onto its strategy, and keeps ego out of the picture."
"In business."
"Oh," he said, "I'd say anywhere. You have to know your goal, what you'll compromise on, and what you won't. You have to know what matters most. When to deal, and when to walk away. You can't do that if your mind is clouded by emotion and ego. You could say I've worked on that for a while, but every habit starts with a day when you decide to do things differently."
"Huh," she said. "But then, I'm a redhead with bad habits, and my mind generally is clouded by emotion. Emotion's where the big ideas come from, if you can call food a big idea. For a chef, it is, and that's me. What's fun, what's pretty, and what's delicious. What will make people happier, and how much trouble they want to go to. Emotions all the way."

This 3rd book in the Sinful, Montana series is every bit as enjoyable as the first two - and maybe even more so - yet all 3 are very, very different. Book 1 about Jace and Paige was a mystery that made my heart pound in places, while Book 2 about Rafe and Lily was a long, sweet, satisfying romance with wonderful supporting characters and plenty of human drama. We met the hero of this book, Brett Hunter, in both those books, and Willow as well, but we really didn't know them at all!! In this story they become amazing people with their own stories...and they completely surprised me with who they are! I really loved every minute of reading this book - twice (and probably more to come!)
It has everything: handsome sexy hero with a sweet center - check; strong, fun heroine who sees the best in everything - check; sweet romance and human drama - check; humor, tears, heat, and incredible settings - check. This is a fabulous book that stands on its own, but if you start with this one, you'll want to go back and read the rest of the series, too, and then everything else Rosalind has written.
Rosalind reminds me in some ways of of another of my favorite writers from years back - Rosamund Pilcher... both are supreme storytellers with a distinctive voice painting deep characters and amazing settings you just want to keep coming back to.
Sexy as Sin is a book to put on your "must read" list this fall by the fire with a glass of wine. Enjoy!

No matter how crazy his life gets, not being in control isn’t an option, and neither is veering from his path or falling for mermaids.
Just from reading the synopsis you know that Rosalind James created a great book. Brett was a secondary character is the other Sinful books and was hoping Ms. James would create a story for just him. She did disappointment! I loved reading about Brett and Willow; She was able to bring him out of his suits and not to be so disciplined when it comes to work. This book has everything: handsome sexy hero; strong, fun heroine who sees the best in everything; sweet romance and human drama; humor, tears, and incredible settings. This is a fabulous book that stands on its own, but if you start with this one, you'll want to go back and read the rest of the series, too. Then read everything else Rosalind has written.
This book can be read as a standalone, but it is best to read the rest of the series.
Brett, Brett, Brett. We met Brett in Guilty as Sin where he comes across as a bit of a villain. But in Tempting as Sin we see his softer side. In his own book he is super sweet - saccharine unfortunately - and has a terribly painful backstory - almost too painful. He's just that little bit too everything to feel truly realistic. The memory of his actions in previous books helps to take the edge off his perfection, though. But Brett does act in the James hero mold - serving to uplift the heroine in whatever her pursuit is.
Willow is spunky, plucky, strong, and beautiful. She is light and laughter and a strong work ethic which doesn't allow her to trade on her famous cousins', well, fame. Like Brett, she's had heartache in her past, though not as much as Brett's double wallop. She's smart, and definitely fits the pattern of James heroines.
The mystery toward the end of the book, the issue with Willow's roommate, as well as some extra family time (finally!) certainly change the dynamic from a saccharine romance to a bit more of a gritty melodrama - focus on melodrama.
Overall, I liked the book even if it was too sweet for my taste. I missed the showing of strong family ties that is a hallmark of James' writing - the references to it are just not enough - plus some issues seemed glossed over entirely and I would have preferred to see it on page. The melodrama of the mystery didn't excite me, but it was certainly an interesting wrinkle that lifted the storyline. In the end, despite my issues with over-perfection, it was the over-the-top, too sweet ending that just made this book for me. I loved it and I cried.
As usual, James writes in her familiar cadence and style and it is easy to sink into her authorial voice. As usual, she writes a wonderful book!

Willow Sanderson
Brett Hunter
Willow Sanderson tries to fill her life with rainbows and unicorns, sparkly ones. It may be because she had such sad stuff in her growing up years, or it may be because it's tough out in the big wide world all on her own. Whatever it is, she tries hard to think of the positives in every day. She is a Cordon Bleu chef and is a partner in the catering firm, Nourish. Willow first sees Brett on the morning that her surfing session "went to custard". He was standing on the beach in his business suit, waving at her..... and so begins this wonderful tale of a growing love, between two people who didn't really know they needed each other, until they did.
Brett Hunter is successful in most everything he does. People come to him because he gets things done, they can trust his judgement, his word and his numbers. He is a property developer, on a grand scale. He has created up market housing developments all over the world, catering to the rich but ever mindful of the context of where they are building. He first sees his flame haired, green eyed mermaid as she skims the waves in Byron Bay on the east coast of Australia. Then he sees the grey fin right behind her, and yes, that is how they meet. Every moment they spend together after that is a dance, tippy toeing ever closer, teasing and learning each other.
One of Brett's big talents is communication, but unfortunately he forgets this once or twice when it matters, and sends Willow the wrong message. When he's remembering the bad things that have happened in his past, it's as if he freezes, and this can give the wrong impression to those observing.
Willow finds herself embroiled in a crisis at work and she asks Brett for help. This story thread pops up throughout the book until its dramatic climax. Willow is heart breakingly unaware of how attractive Brett finds her, she is not self-confident as a woman, only as a chef. I adore Willow's character, she is quirky, colourful, talented and hard working and those recipes - wow! She is like that proverbial swan - gliding through her work life but her legs are paddling like heck under the water. Willow and Brett are fabulous together, Willow's sassy retorts and Brett's self assured humour are great.
Rosalind James is a superb story teller and keen observer of human relationships and the conversations and interaction between the two main characters is realistic and pulls you into their story. I totally enjoyed the journey that Brett and Willow travel together, Sexy As Sin (Sinful, Montana Book 3) is a brilliant read and though it is a standalone, you would enjoy reading Books 1 and 2 in the series which are wonderful. Sexy As Sin is a M/F romance with a HEA ending.
Willow Sanderson, a chef, is grateful that he saved her life, and invites him home for breakfast with her. There is an immediate attraction between them, which is an unusual occurrence for Brett, because he normally trusts no-one. Unbeknown to. Willow, he is the client at her next function, which goes horribly wrong in several ways. Brett saves the day for the function, he is absolutely the man to rely on in an emergency. Later though, he suffers a bad accident when he is with Willow, which puts him out of action for several weeks. He employs Willow to feed him, as he not in a position to help himself. She continues working during the day at the company where she is a partner, but the next function she caters also has serious issues, it looks as though somebody might be trying to sabotage the business!
The tension builds, Brett and Willow become very attached to each other, while continuing to look for clues to what is affecting the business. There are more twists and turns, both in their personal life and what is happening within the business, and it all comes to a very tense and exciting climax. Rosalind is so good at writing emotions, the story is funny, sad, romantic and extremely emotional; and these are such lovely people! Small clue: tissues might be required to mop away the tears in a few places!
Despite their differences Brett and Willow become close, especially after Brett breaks his leg and Willow offers to look after him while he recovers but there are sinister forces at work as Willow and several guests get food-poisoning at an event she catered. Is it jealousy? Is Amanda cheating Willow somehow? Or is one of the guests the real target?
I read the first few chapters of this on Rosalind James' website and it didn't really grab me, unlike the two previous novels, but when it came up on special offer I bought it anyway and have only just got around to reading it.
There is a definite Pretty Woman vibe, something which Willow acknowledges, Brett is much older and an uptight billionaire businesswoman whereas Willow is the younger, free-er spirited woman who helps him to relax and metaphorically smell the roses. In return, Brett gives Willow the confidence to stand up to Amanda and assert her right to be heard.
Set against the stunning natural beauty of Byron Bay the reader is swept away by the descriptions of the landscape and the amazing scents of the countryside, enticed by the fabulous food that Willow prepares for Brett and her clients, the romance of a thoughtful billionaire and his impressive rental home.
From a dubious start I came to love this book, Brett and Willow. Although the mystery behind who was sabotaging Willow was not a huge surprise it was still a well-thought out plot and an engaging read, I especially liked the reference to the Australian soap!
Overall, a great addition to the trilogy, glad I took advantage of the sale.
