THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“Looking for a suspense novel that will keep you up until way past midnight? Look no further than Lock Every Door, by Riley Sager.”—Stephen King

No visitors. No nights spent elsewhere. No disturbing the rich and famous residents. These are the rules for Jules Larsen’s new job apartment sitting at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most high-profile buildings. Recently heartbroken—and just plain broke—Jules is taken in by the splendor and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind.

As she gets to know the occupants and staff, Jules is drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who reminds her so much of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew has a dark history hidden beneath its gleaming façade, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story—until the next day when Ingrid seemingly vanishes.

Searching for the truth, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew’s sordid past. But by uncovering the secrets within its walls, Jules exposes herself to untold terrors. Because once you’re in, the Bartholomew doesn’t want you to leave....

Lock Every Door

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

For Jules, becoming an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew seems like the opportunity of a lifetime. That is, until other apartment sitters start to go missing. This novel is perfectly paced with a darkly fascinating conclusion. It features a young adult protagonist and is not as violent as many adult thrillers. VERDICT A good place for teens to start exploring the thriller genre.—Elliot Riley, Deerfield Academy, MA

Riley Sager does it again!

Riley Sager does it again!
Ladies and gentlemen, he’s done it again.I’m pretty sure all of you know that I’m a Riley Sager superfan so this book has been on my radar FOREVER.Seriously, I camped out on @netgalley when I heard that e-ARCs were available.First of all, Sager’s writing just SUCKS me in. With all of his novels (okay, just the three...) I was captivated by page 10. This was no exception. The synopsis already intrigued me, but once I got into the first couple of chapters-I couldn’t put it down. The characters were obvious yet still mysterious. I wanted to shake Jules (the main character) and yell DUDE, RUN! As for the others, you know they’re all playing a part- you just don’t know what it is.Now on to the plot- as in all Sager books expect a major plot twist. So again, you know it’s coming and everything ‘clicks’ and you’re left thinking ‘HOW DID I MISS THAT!?’ But then within the last couple of chapters everything is explained and it makes so much more sense than your original theory. The premise of this one infuriated me. Like seriously how the hell could they get away with that for so long!? At the end, I totally backed Jules decisions. It’s also the first of Sager’s three books that felt ‘real’ to me (I was a house sitter for a while). Like Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied was of course thrilling and suspenseful, but Lock Every Door actually gave me chills. So The Last Time I Lied is still my favorite, but Lock Every Door is great and an awesome read.

Different from what I’ve been reading. I do feel like sager writes female characters in a strange way that takes some getting used to. Hard to explain.

I liked this story for the most part … the location, the characters (but not Jules) and the ending. Just a few comments. This story has been done before so I figured it out quite quickly. I thought Jules went overboard in her questions and actions. She endangered herself and others in the process and all she really had to do was leave. She was not a detective or a police officer. Her meddling almost got her killed. I found her completely annoying. I also think the book was over long by about 50 pages. It was a bit tedious at times. Last, but not least, my hardcover copy of this book fell apart, literally came unglued at the spine, all the way down. All things considered, three stars. One for the plot, one for all of the characters but Jules and one for the location.

I loved Final Girls, thus I love (most of) Riley Sager's (nom de plume) fast and fun novels. Lock Every Door has a lurid purple-and-pink cover that promises an equally lurid thriller and does not disappoint. I enjoyed reading this book because, even though it has been done, it is fun to see what the author brings to the "scary luxury apartment table." (Nestlings by Nat Cassidy is very creative and spooky on this genre.)
The main protagonist was annoying with her persistent nosiness and digging, HOWEVER, without it she wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble. The suspense was well done, the eerie presence in the silent apartment was creepy. There was some fun play with an old-fashioned dumb waiter that promises tension, some good misdirection, and a twist that even I didn't see coming. It is so much fun to know that trouble awaits at every junction, and our nosy little Jules is going to be in the thick of it. The gargoyles were a perfect touch to this tasty mix of thriller.
Note: I love Riley Sager's innate familiarity of Central park. He has used wonderful descriptions in some of his other novels.

I thoroughly enjoyed how intrigued I was to discover more at every chapter. Greatly appreciated the concise descriptions that made characters and settings easy to keep up with. Although the ending was quite satisfying, I can’t help but be annoyed by the title’s very distant connection to the plot. The layout of this building was too out of the box; spiral staircase inside each apartment, yet only 20 steps of stairs in between each floor? There’s supposed to be an entire hospital on the top floor that she casually wasn’t aware of when she spent the night at his place? Other than that, such a fun read.

This book is a must for fans of horror, thriller, and mystery genres. Riley Sage skillfully crafts a fast-paced narrative that can be devoured in one or two sittings. The eerie atmosphere of The Bartholomew, with its rich history and peculiar residents, is depicted flawlessly giving the story a fantastically creepy setting.

Jules, the main character, might not resonate with every reader, but her backstory adds depth to her actions. Some may question her choices, but understanding her journey adds a layer of empathy. This story allows the reader to witness the world through her eyes, which I believe justifies how handles different situations and make choices shaped by her past traumas and current struggles.

The plot is gripping, with Jules gradually unraveling mysteries while Riley Sager masterfully guides readers through twists and turns (as always). Despite some negative reviews about the ending, the overall experience is captivating from start to finish. Personally I think the ending was great.

This book is a standout in Sager's repertoire, becoming a favorite for myself. Please do disregard any negative reviews and dive into this thrilling tale without hesitation. Highly recommended for an enthralling read that won't disappoint.
