Megan Wargula is a self-proclaimed “dog nerd” – the kind of person who knows the dogs in her neighborhood better than their humans! A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Megan has always loved animals and has made it her mission to make the world a better place for dogs through her writing. When not at her day job as a graphic designer, Megan spends the rest of her time writing and enjoying life with her husband and dogs, Finlay and Riley. Megan is a fan of history and the paranormal which is part of the reason she loves the town of Roswell, Georgia so much. Many of the places in the book are real, so plan your visit!

Fun Facts: Megan, Finlay, and Riley were fortunate enough to get some training from Victoria Stilwell when she won a contest that included a piece in Oprah Magazine! Oh, and she invited a rock star to her prom back in the 90’s and he said yes. She thinks it might have been the very first prom-posal, and is forever grateful to Evan Dando of Lemonheads for being such a nice guy.

Riley Carson is back in an all new adventure in Riley Carson and the Quest for Justice by Megan Wargula. Riley is so excited that her family has decided to adopt a new dog. Not just any dog, but one of the dogs she rescued from an underground puppy mill.

Buster may be a small Yorkie, but he is mighty! The petite pooch is afraid of men and has never even seen grass before. Riley certainly has her work cut out for her as she takes charge in training her new furry friend.
Meanwhile, Finn is hot on the trail of a new mystery when he discovers a system of tunnels underneath the city that were used during the Civil War. Hoping to discover artifacts for his class presentation, he soon finds more than he had bargained for.

Strange things begin to happen each time he enters the tunnels. Riley senses a sinister presence that could put the pair in grave danger. Will the dynamic duo be able to outsmart the spirited specter?

As if Riley doesn’t have enough on her plate, her new neighbor, Hawk, may end up losing his dog. Lennox, Hawk’s service dog, is a Pit bull trained to help the military veteran with his symptoms of PTSD. When the city passes new Breed Specific Legislation, Hawk faces relinquishing the best friend he’s ever known. Can Riley convince the city that they are making a huge mistake before Lennox’s time runs out?

I greatly enjoyed reading the second installment in the Riley Carson series! Full of mystery and suspense, I was hooked from the first chapter. I love to see how much Riley’s character has grown since the first book. She is truly blossoming into a passionate animal advocate who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in.

This book packs a powerful punch dealing with such a timely and polarized topic as BSL. There is such a stigma surrounding Pit bulls. These beautiful creatures are no more harmful than any other breed of dog. Due to misconceptions, many cities and states have passed BSL laws that have cost many “bully breeds” their lives. Wargula faces the issue head on through the empowered character of Riley.

This story is a great read for animal lovers ages 8 and up. I can’t wait to read about Riley’s next adventure!

My 10 year old loved the two Riley Carson books that he read! Wish there was more books in the series.

Having not read the first book in the series, I really didn’t know what to expect but was immediately drawn in by hearing the story was not only about animals…but also reminiscent of the Nancy Drew books I loved in my youth. The cover art reminded me of a picture of my husband and myself with our first Akita, when we attended a rally to help animal shelters get funding more than a decade ago. Yes, you can already tell I’m an animal advocate so probably figure I’m going to like this book. Well, you’re wrong – I LOVED IT! It took me back to the days of mystery solving in my pre-teens, it touched on my fascination with ghosts and Civil War History too. Even more so, since I’ve recently relocated cross-country to Georgia, I was delighted to learn about local haunts and history (although I do realize artistic license was taken in some cases, as any interesting author would do). Most of all however, I was compelled to keep reading for not only the fun adventures mentioned above, but because so many important animal issues were discussed. What a fun way to get these messages across! As a former high school Animal Care Instructor, I taught 17-year-olds about puppy mills and my students wanted to effect change. We discussed the sad reality of breed specific legislation, pet overpopulation, declawing and euthanasia as well as what happens to lost pets. I tried to instill in my students the desire to want to make a difference, to stand up for animals and people because it is the right thing to do. Riley Carson, this book’s main character, does all that and more. She is a modern day hero to compassionate young boys and girls, and her story reminds adults about what is important in this life: each other, including the four-legged members of our families. Granted, not all of you may find as many personal connections to this book as I did, but it is a fun read that will teach you without letting you know you’re being taught. I highly recommend “Riley Carson & The Quest for Justice” for animal lovers of all ages, and hope they’ll share it with any animal skeptics and convert them. Now, I must go read the first book!

I loved the book and heard the author speak at a local book signing. I am a teacher and purchased the book to donated to my school. This book is suspenseful and a definitely a page turner. The author brought up issues that would be great for students to discuss on the treatment of dogs.
I would recommend the book and encourage media specialists to invite the author to visit their school.

Ms. Wargula has done it once again, writing a page-turner that will both entertain and educate children about caring for dogs. However, this second book in the Riley Carson Series carries so much more weight than just that! "The Quest For Justice" teaches values, history, personal responsibility and growth in a way that is engaging, fun, and mysterious. Young and old readers will enjoy this book....I couldn't stop reading it myself! Highly recommend!
