Royally Yours (The Royally Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
It’s a big deal.
When she’s crowned at just nineteen, the beautiful young monarch is prepared to rule. She’s charming, clever, confident and cunning.
What she isn’t…is married.
It’s her advising council’s first priority. It’s what Parliament is demanding, and what her people want.
Lenora has no desire to tie herself to a man—particularly one who only wants her for her crown. But compromises must be made and royals must do their duty. Even Queens. Especially them.**Years ago, Edward Langdon Richard Dorian Rourke, walked away from his title and country. Now he’s an adventurer—climbing mountains, exploring jungles, going wherever he wants, when he wants—until family devotion brings him home.
And a sacred promise keeps him there.
To Edward, the haughty, guarded little Queen is intriguing, infuriating…and utterly captivating. Wanting her just might drive him mad—or become his greatest adventure.**Within the cold, stone walls of the royal palace—mistrust threatens, wills clash, and an undeniable, passionate love will change the future of the monarchy forever.
Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story.
This is theirs.

4.5 stars — Well this one had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Seriously. I mean, yeah, perhaps I was PMS-ing a wee bit, but I was honest to god bawling at one point and had to put the book down. There’s just something about the way Ms. Chase writes that has me connecting to her characters so fully that I *feel* their heartbreak, their loss, their loneliness. I’m not sure what I was expecting from Queen Lenora’s story, but I don’t think I was quite prepared for that.
She got to me, you know? Lenora had such a strange upbringing, and she was so isolated in so many ways, I just felt for the weight of responsibility on her shoulders, and how she felt such a barrier between herself and everyone else. It just got to me. SHE got to me. I kind of want to go back and reread the series, b/c now I have a different perspective on her. She was so fierce. I mean, yeah, she was stubborn, and somewhat entitled (reasonably so in her position), but she was also principled and the strength it took to step into that position at such a young age…well she is the stuff to be admired. I loved the way she loved her country, and truly fought back as much as she could in that time period to do what she thought was right.
We didn’t really get to meet Edward until well into the book, so I’m not sure I felt like I connected with him quite as much. In the end, I didn’t know *him* so much as the him he was in relation to Lenora. That didn’t bother me, it’s just something I realized as I’m writing this review. But I did love the Edward that came home. He dealt with some pretty heavy blows, but became a real strength to Lenora…he connected to the woman underneath and not the Queen. I loved the way he supported her, and that even though he faltered at times, he took responsibility for his actions. He was very much an alpha in so many ways, but he was also not afraid to be vulnerable. I loved that dichotomy.
And their romance was truly a story worth telling. I think because of all the different aspects that Ms. Chase wanted to convey, the story occasionally felt a little choppy with the time jumps, mostly near the end. But I loved the rest of the story so much, it really didn’t affect my enjoyment at’all. I ADORED the feelings they developed for one another, and how I connected with not just their attraction, but their genuine deepening feelings. I believed the progression of their relationship, and it made my heart so happy! And hoo boy, the steamy scenes were delicious!
One last point: Thomas. There were many fantastic secondary characters (Miriam, Alfie, Winston), but Thomas took the cake. I was half in love with him at the first dance. He took this story from beautiful to extraordinary. I can’t say more without giving spoilers, but I adored the glasses in the pocket. When you read it, you’ll understand.
So yeah. I don’t know what it is about the way Ms. Chase writes, but I just connect with her characters. I laughed and cried and just felt all the feelings, from grief to pure joy. And it didn’t hurt that when I was reading the steamy scenes, Edward was *almost* saying my name… 😉
Standalone though part of a larger series
Told from both POVs
I didn’t realize going in that this book was set in the past and I’m not a huge historical fiction fan but this author did an amazing job of making the love story so close to something from the modern day I didn’t even realize.
The beginning of the book does a lot of foundation setting but once the main characters meet it takes off running and doesn’t stop. The build of their feelings and the way they had “love lessons” was beautiful. I loved how everything built on their last interaction, making their love a slow burn.
Edwards feelings for Lenora were visceral. You could feel his love, passion, protectiveness, possessiveness. And Lenora was no different. I loved how she went after any woman who tried to touch what was hers. A Queen is supposed to be so dignified so it was nice to see her break that character and act like any normal woman would.
She was also such an independent bada** that she might be my favorite female lead in a long time.
Great book!
We knew her as Her Majesty the Queen. We knew her as the mother of the sweet and sexy princes that we fell so hard and fast for in Emma Chase's previous royal romances. But we never really know her until now, until her epic life story is brought to life in Royally Yours and IT. IS. MAGNIFICENT. Lenora and Edward's romance is STUNNING. Brought together by a common loss, a marriage of convenience ensues and what unfolds on these pages is a classic, timeless royal love story that I could not have possibly loved more. I was in the biggest reading rut before I got my hands on this novel. I went from being unable to connect with anything to being unable to put this book down.
There's a profound sadness about this story though. So often we read royal romances that feel glamorous and shiny, sexy and decadent. But this story is different. This queen, my heart ached for her. Queen Lenora's isolation, her grief, her loneliness are a palpable entity in Royally Yours. There's a shadow of loss that clouds her story and it gripped me in ways I simply did not expect. I hurt for her. I could feel her solitude, her silent despair, her longing for a connection with someone after all that she'd lost. I turned every page of this story with an achy heart, consumed by every ounce of her journey. And there's so freaking much to feel. This is a story that felt so unbelievably beautiful but also stings painfully at times. It's a barrage of intense emotion the entire way through and I already wish I could go back and experience it all over again.
I have to admit that as I read, I kept catching myself searching for some missing inexplicable thing. I'm a romance reader, obviously, so I've come to expect the cliche aspects of any good romance novel: the first bits of attraction that tend to catalyze any romantic relationship, the "fall" into love that coincides with your garden variety love story. I eagerly anticipate the first taste of desire, the sting of reluctant attraction, the lust and longing that typical couples endure in the early stages of a relationship. So, for a bit there I was missing something I couldn't pinpoint. It was just hard for me to wrap my head and my heart around the impending nuptials between two characters who hadn't even kissed yet. But that's when it all clicked and I realized what a stellar job Emma Chase did in crafting Lenora and Edwards's romance. This royal romance is EVERYTHING it was ever meant to be and in the end I realized that there wasn't a single thing missing from ANY of it. This is an arranged marriage, a marriage of convenience at the start. And everything that typically comes first comes later... all in its due time... and when it does, IT. IS. SPECTACULAR. How often do we read royal romances where the older generation speaks of their own arranged marriage, their own fall into love after their obligation to wed was fulfilled? So often we're told those stories after the fact but we never get to see what that looks like firsthand. Here, with Royally Yours, Emma Chase illustrates that complicated, unorthodox dynamic between two characters who agree to wed even though they don't know each other yet, even though their attraction is evident but the depth of their feelings hasn't had the opportunity to develop... and it's stunning. It's beautiful. It's all consuming and unputdownable and I was enthralled. I've loved this series so completely and it all comes full circle here in this book. It truly is magic what happens on these pages, and I can't wait to do an entire series reread as soon as I can.

"Don’t be sad, Edward. This time I’ll be the one traveling. I’ll try to write and tell you all about it.” Edward gives him a smile—and it’s a beautiful smile. Then he presses his hand against Thomas’s cheek, patting him gently."
